Abstract

Kuantan Singingi Regency is believed to be a gender-responsive village model in the Small-Scale Gold Mining (PESK) sector, the only one in Indonesia, where more than 204 women participate in the PESK sector. The purpose of study is to analyze the work activities and the forms of work relations among the gold-panning women with gold boss (tauke) using Social Exchange and Rational Choice theories. The research took place in Logas Kuantan Singingi village using qualitative methods through observation, interviews, documentation and triangulation being the data collection techniques. This study found that the work activities of gold-panning women began with preparing work tools, moving to the work site, panning for gold, separating gold and selling gold. The working relations established between gold-panning women and gold boss include permanent buying and selling, accounts receivable, bonus giving, holiday allowance (THR), non-material assistance and family relations. The gold-panning women are still very dependent on the existence of gold boss in selling their panned gold products recalling that the Tombang Wanita Amanah Duo Cooperative still have limited capital and cannot operate as it should.

The research was conducted using qualitative research methods and the data research techniques used included in-depth interview, observation and documentation. The subjects of study were selected using a purposive sampling technique with a total of 5 group members who were active and had joined the group for more than 2 years and 1 key informant, namely the village apparatus of Kayu Ara Permai. The research found some social capital elements in groups: networks, beliefs, norms and pro-active actions that are intertwined between group memberships, communities and partners. Social Capital contained in the group plays a role as an adhesive (Bonding) among members to foster high awareness, a sense of comfort, safety, shared responsibility, and gain good knowledge on how to increase group capacity, develop ecotourism and process the mangrove derivative products. The role of bridging (Bridging) encourages positive behavior, increases community participation, as well as funding and makes Ecotourism a village development priority. Finally, the role of liaison (Linking) is the establishment of cooperation with different strata to obtain funds from partners to build ecotourism facilities, increase group knowledge and promote ecotourism and process the mangrove derivative products produced by the group.

Abstract

This research aims to understand the changes in the function of the traditional Minangkabau house (rumah gadang) in Nagari Tuo Pariangan, Tanah Datar Regency. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, as well as qualitative data analysis using the Miles Huberman model. The main research subjects are five individuals selected using purposive sampling, supplemented by two additional subjects, namely the village head and the head of Nagari Tuo Pariangan's tourism awareness group (pokdarwis). The findings indicate that clan members initially used the rumah gadang as a residence, a place for deliberation and consensus, a gathering place for relatives, a venue for traditional ceremonies, a symbol, and also served an educational function. However, the designation of Nagari Tuo Pariangan as a tourist village has shifted the use of rumah gadang to homestays or lodgings. As a result, rumah gadang now primarily houses clan representatives, serves as a venue for large-scale deliberations, and no longer functions as a gathering place for relatives. Instead, it now serves as a business hub, generating economic value for the clan members. The transformation of rumah gadang into homestays is primarily due to the fact that many clan members have relocated to seek their fortune elsewhere, and others have chosen to construct their own homes outside of the rumah gadang. External factors contributing to the change include the awards received by Nagari Tuo Pariangan as the most beautiful village and the developing tourist village award, as well as encouragement from the local tourism awareness group (pokdarwis) in Nagari Tuo Pariangan.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the form of shift in the implementation of rebu and the factors causing the shift in the implementation of rebu ngerana using Malinowski's Cultural Contact Theory approach. The research took place in Tanjung Sawit Village, Tapung subdistrict, Kampar district. Data collection techniques were obtained by observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation using the Miles Huberman model of qualitative data analysis. There were 8 research subjects consisting of 2 key subjects and 6 main subjects who were selected in a planned manner using purposive sampling techniques. The results of the research show that there has been a shift in the implementation of rebu ngerana, namely in the form of communication between rebu perpetrators, how to sit in the same room, sit on one mat, and there has been physical contact between rebu perpetrators which is not permitted by tradition. The factors causing the shift in the implementation of rebu ngerana are due to cultural mixing, namely the intermarriage of the Karo Batak tribe with other tribes, the influence of communication technology through social media, environmental factors which are transmigration villages, the non-implementation of customary change events, as well as situational and conditional factors.
