Abstract

This article describes the effort to develop ornamental motifs that are found in rumah gadang, Minangkabau traditional house, become decorative motif for cloth. Decorative motifs of cloth is not only in the form of batik motifs, but also the possibility for motif embroidered, songket, and fashion design. There are 76 motives found which are grouped based on motives meaning. meanwhile, these motives were selected  based on the design possibility for batik, songket, and fashion motif. This work is one of revitalization effort of traditional works.. In addition, this effort is expected to become one of the alternative of entrepreneurship development within the framework of local content-based creative industries.

Abstract

Rice fields in urban areas are getting narrower and made rice field activities are decreasing which of course will result in the reduced use of lexicons in this field. Therefore, it is needed to conduct a reseach on the lexicon of rice fields in Padang city. This article discusses the lexicons of rice fields used by people in Padang. This research is conducted qualitatively. Data is collected by referring method and analyzed by referential equivalent method. Then, it is presented in an informal method. From the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the rice lexicons found can be grouped into four, namely process lexicons, tools, flora, and fauna which are, mambajak , manyiang, manyikek, mananam,, etc. This lexicon must be inventoried so that the lexicon inheritance can be carried out as the local wisdom of the lexicon can be maintained for the next generation. Abstract

This article describes the use of metaphoric words of T-shirt design produced by the Kapuyuak and Konco Clothing stores. T-shirts in both stores contain many metaphors about the daily life of Minangkabau people. This study discusses metaphorical forms and functions in the product's design of those two shops. The theory used is the theory of the metaphor form proposed by Stephen Ullman and the theory of functions by Geoffrey Leech.The results show metaphorical forms in the T-shirts design produced by the Kapuyuak and Konco Clothing stores, which are 6 anthropomorphic metaphors, 4 animal metaphors, 7 metaphors from concrete to abstract, and 3 synaesthetic metaphors. Whereas, the functions found are 4 informational functions, 4 expressive functions, 1 directive function, 1 fatigue function, and 10 aesthetic functions.Keywords: metaphor, shirt design, metaphorical form, metaphorical function

Abstract

This research is describe that a reader can produce new works. There are differences between ‘Legenda Malin Kundang’ with “Drama Malin Kundang’. Those differences shows the intertextuality. The differences indicate that there is a readers reactions, respons, and interpretations which have different backgrounds and horizon expectations.

Abstract

This article describes the meaning contained Facebook status uses Minangkabau language. Data were collected through the searching method. Each sorted word is sought by referents so that can be interpreted and classified according to their form and type.The results show besides four types of diction; diction related to scientific and popular words, diction related to conversation words, diction related to slang, and diction related to a foreign language, also found three types of meanings; conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, associative meaning.

Abstract

The extinction of regional languages is a phenomenon that needs to be examined and addressed seriously and wisely. Minangkabau language is also feared to be extinct. The Minangkabau language has undergone a change that occurs in the direction of reducing vocabulary. Classic vocabulary, for example, has been replaced by a new vocabulary and even completely disappeared.This study will specifically find out the kinds of Minangkabau classical texts originating from text edits. Data sources were obtained from the results of research on philology and folklore, namely the edits of manuscripts and folklore documentation. The Lexicon of Minangkabau classical texts in this paper are grouped into three groups, namely, nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Keywords: classical text, Minangkabau, vocabulary, manuscript

Abstract

Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan konflik-konflik tokoh yang mengalamipertikaian kondisi sosial di dalam novel Maransi. Konflik yang dibahas dalamnovel ini berupa perkara-perkara rumah gadang, tanah pusaka, gelar pusaka, hargadiri dan peran mamak dalam membimbingkemenakan.Penelitian ini dibatasipada konflik sosial yang terjadi antara mamak dan kemenakan.Teknik pengumpulan data yang dipakai dalam penelitian berupa studi kepustakaan. Data terdiri dari data primer berupa  teks yang bersumber pada novel Maransi dan data sekunder berupa referensi yang  berdekatan dengan objek penelitian. Teknik analisis data dengan memilah danmemilihkonflik-konflikyangmenunjukkanpermasalahanpadamamakdankemenakan.Sesuaidengantujuanpenelitian,hasilanalisisyangdihasilkanmenunjukkankonflik-konfliksosialberupapergeseranperanmamaksebagaiorang yang dituakan dalam kaum pada pengambilan keputusan mendirikan rumahgadang.HilangnyacitrakepemimpinanmamakdandatukdimasyarakatMinangkabauyanglebihmengedepankankepentinganpribadinyadanmendahulukan kepentingan keluarga dan anaknya. Terjadinya pergeseran peranmamak dalam mengendalikan harta pusaka dan sako sebagai warisan yang harusditurunkankepadakemenakan.Kurangnyaperanmamakberupabimbingankepada kemenakan. Tidak adanya komunikasi yang kondusif antara mamak dankemenakan.

Abstract

Tulisan ini merupakan deskripsi nilai-nilai didaktis yang ada dalam novel Kutub Tak Bersalju. Nilai-nilai didaktis diperoleh melalui analisis menggunakan teori struktural, yakni  unsur intrinsik. Melalui unsur intrinsik  tersebut dapat ditemukan  nilai-nilai didaktis yang terdapat dalam novel Kutub Tak Bersalju. Hasilnya, nilai-nilai didaktis dalam novel Kutub Tak Bersalju antara lain: nilai tauhid yaitu nilai keimanan dan ketakwaan, kepedulian dan kasih sayang, kegigihan keuletan, kerja keras dan mandiri, kesabaran, cinta damai, dan menghargai prestasi.

Abstract

Minangkabau old manuscripts have various texts such as Islamic text, history, literature, local custom and tradition, and traditional healing and medicines. The texts on Islam, literature, and local custom have been rapidly studied, but the texts on traditional healing and medicines recieved very little interests and studies.Utilizing the philological approach and etnomedicine, this research was conducted to cover the lack of studies on the texts of traditional healing and medicines which are found in Minangkabau old manuscripts. The data were collected through listing the manuscripts, transliteration and translation, textual criticism and interview. The collected data were analized by qualitative data analysis which was done through three pararel-systimatical steps; data reductions, data presentation and drawing the conclusion.From this research, it is found that the texts of traditional healing and medicines convey the information on Minangkabau traditional healing and medicine including the formula of the medicines and the method of traditional healing. Besides that, it helps to contextually comprehend the concept of illness and the method of healing in the cosmology of Minangkabau society.

Abstract

In the realm of Malay manuscript researches, the aspect of technology has been given little attention to be researched in a serious and specific manner. Even less is the study focused on the correlation between the Malay technology and Islamic civilization. This article seeks to shed light on the matter and discusses the Malay technology dealing with the use of hand-held firearms which was possibly inherited from the Islamic sources found in the Malay manuscripts. In particular, this article tries to analyse the mysticism elements which seems to be the underlying idea of the indigenous knowledge of firearm technology. The knowledge of such technology and its application are believed to have been practiced by individuals or groups of individuals in the Malay civilization till the 19th mid-century.
