Abstract

Online remote teaching has been implemented to curb the spread of corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic. Due to this unprecedented situation, EFL writing teachers should immediately adjust their teaching approaches through utilizing technology. Given the fact that the utilization of technology is ubiquitous in language teaching, rapid changing into full online teaching certainly brings some adaptations. Teachers have to handle full online learning and apply technology tools they apparently have never used before within a very short time preparation. This current study explored EFL writing teachers’ confidence, including their perceptions, in response to emergency remote teaching during Covid-19 pandemic as an initial survey. Twenty-two teachers who teach academic writing courses from nine universities in Indonesia took part in a survey through online questionnaire modified from EFL TPACK assessment by Baser, Kopcha, and Ozden (2016). Descriptive and thematic approaches were used as data analysis. The findings show that the EFL writing teachers’ confidence ranged between somewhat confident to fairly confident in the seven areas of technology, content, and pedagogy. They believe that competences they have are sufficient in managing online EFL academic writing course during emergency remote teaching. Nonetheless, when technology is integrated to other areas, the confidence levels seemingly decrease. Awareness of technical material and pedagogic technological knowledge received the lowest scores from all fields. Integration of technology in the process of language teaching, requires teachers to always improve their TPACK abilities through various ways, and this must also be supported by adequate facilities and infrastructure.

Abstract

The researchers accessed the online Scopus database to gather data for the study. The researchers utilized Microsoft Excel for frequency analysis, VOSviewer for data visualization, and Harzing's Publish or Perish for citation metrics and analysis. According to a keywords search for "Flipped-Classroom” and “EFL," 26 articles were assessed. The research on this matter was started in 2014 with one article for the entire year. From the next year to 2020, the number of publications each year grew. As a result of analysis, the researcher discloses the data on the growth of the research, the most active journals on the topic, the distribution of author keywords and co-occurrences of author keywords, and the most active authors and authors’ collaboration. It was shown that throughout the last seven years, researchers have increased their focus on flipped classroom and EFL research, with the highest number of publications occurring in 2020 (11 papers). The most active journal on the subject is the International Journal of Emerging Technologies in Learning, which has published three pieces on the subject. Additionally, the investigation found that instruction, perception, and performance are the most commonly used keywords. However, involvement and motivation are mentioned infrequently in research reports.

Abstract

Interactive learning media can engage young learners to effectively absorb learning materials. Therefore, this developmental research was conducted to produce an interactive game that improves young learners' mastery of plural and singular nouns and enrich young learners' animal-related vocabulary. The researchers employed the ADDIE development model that began by analyzing problems related to the predetermined topic, analyzing the environment and work situation, designing the product, developing the product based on validation results from three expert validators, and conducting a product trial. The researchers investigated the product’s feasibility by performing a small-sccale trial and a large-scale trial. The research findings indicate that the developed interactive game was practical and useful. In short, the developed interactive game is feasible to assist young learners in learning plural and singular nouns and enrich their vocabulary.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of employing the Book Creator application on the development of students' writing abilities in composing procedural texts. Mastering the construction of procedural texts is a crucial skill for students, and Book Creator offers a potentially valuable tool to facilitate the clear and creative expression of their ideas. Employing a quasi-experimental design, this research examines the effect of Book Creator on the writing skills of eleventh-grade students at SMA N 1 Pasir Sakti. The target population comprised 302 students, from which two classes were selected through cluster random sampling: XI IPA 3 as the experimental group and XI IPS 3 as the control group, each consisting of 30 students. Pre-tests and post-tests served as the primary data collection instruments. Subsequent to normality and homogeneity testing of the data through SPSS v.24, an independent samples t-test was conducted. The results, with a significance level (p) of 0.003 (falling below the 0.05 alpha level), indicate that the utilization of the Book Creator application exerted a statistically significant influence on the enhancement of students' writing ability in procedural texts within SMAN 1 Pasir Sakti during the 2021/2022 academic year.
