Abstract

Schools face the social changes quickly that was caused by the global village phenomenon. It makes schools’ strategic plans and their implementation strategies becoming important topics to be discussed. This study aimed to know how the implementation of State of Junior High School (SMP) Islam Cendekia Cianjur strategic plan during academic year 2018/2019. A school in West Java addresses religious and globally competed graduation. The research used qualitative-descriptive. Collecting data used observation, interview, and document analysis instruments. The finding showed that SMP Islam Cendekia Cianjur achieved maximum result in implementing annual work plan. Almost all program objectives were realized, some even exceeded the annual targets set due to their well-organized of strategic plan and the accuracy of its implementation strategy. The collaboration of principal’s managerial and social competencies and participative leadership approach have proven effectively in embodying school annual work plan. The principal succeed in improving educators’ competencies and their working performances, as well as in collaboration with various potential parties. Abstract

Abstract: Teaching a language for children is not an easy thing, but it is important. One important factor in learning English for children is teachers who care about the needs of their students. This study discussed the types of media prepared by teachers in language learning, especially in English. It aimed to answer the following questions: 1) How do teachers select language learning media for children? What problems do teachers face in the preparation of language learning media for children? To collect the data, the researcher employed observation and interview techniques. The results of the study showed lack of instructional media in schools and a lack of teachers’ knowledge in using various instructional media. Keywords:  instructional media, media selection, young learners Abstrak: Mengajar bahasa untuk anak-anak bukanlah hal yang mudah, tetapi merupakan hal yang penting. Salah satu faktor penting dalam belajar bahasa Inggris untuk anak-anak adalah guru yang peduli dengan kebutuhan siswa mereka. Penelitian ini membahas jenis media yang disiapkan oleh guru dalam pembelajaran bahasa, terutama dalam bahasa Inggris yang bertujuan untuk menjawab pertanyaan-pertanyaan berikut: 1) Bagaimana para guru memilih media pembelajaran bahasa untuk anak-anak? Masalah apa yang dihadapi guru dalam persiapan media pembelajaran bahasa untuk anak-anak? Untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan teknik observasi dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kurangnya media pembelajaran di sekolah dan kurangnya pengetahuan guru dalam menggunakan berbagai media pembelajaran.           Kata-kata kunci: media pembelajaran, pemilihan media, pembelajar muda

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat kesulitan siswa dalam memahami tugas membaca bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada siswa kelas XI MA Ma'arif NU 02 Sidorejo yang mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami kegiatan membaca bahasa Inggris. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan desain penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan purposive sampling, dipilih 30 siswa kelas XI IPA 2 sebagai sampel karena memiliki nilai membaca yang lebih rendah dibandingkan kelas lainnya. Data dikumpulkan melalui analisis dokumen dan kuesioner. Selanjutnya, kondensasi data, penyajian data, dan menghasilkan kesimpulan atau verifikasi adalah tiga aspek utama dari analisis data. Setelah mengevaluasi data, terlihat bahwa siswa memiliki empat kesulitan memahami tugas membaca. persentase rata-rata sebesar 72,5 persen untuk aspek ide utama, 67,5 persen untuk aspek inferensi, 50,5 persen untuk aspek detail, dan dan 75 persen untuk aspek vocabulary (Kosakata). Berdasarkan persentase yang diambil dari hasil analisis dokumen dan angket yang diisi oleh siswa kelas XI IPA 2 MA Ma'arif NU 02 Sidorejo tersebut, aspek tersulit adalah aspek kosakata.

Abstract

The researchers accessed the online Scopus database to gather data for the study. The researchers utilized Microsoft Excel for frequency analysis, VOSviewer for data visualization, and Harzing's Publish or Perish for citation metrics and analysis. According to a keywords search for "Flipped-Classroom” and “EFL," 26 articles were assessed. The research on this matter was started in 2014 with one article for the entire year. From the next year to 2020, the number of publications each year grew. As a result of analysis, the researcher discloses the data on the growth of the research, the most active journals on the topic, the distribution of author keywords and co-occurrences of author keywords, and the most active authors and authors’ collaboration. It was shown that throughout the last seven years, researchers have increased their focus on flipped classroom and EFL research, with the highest number of publications occurring in 2020 (11 papers). The most active journal on the subject is the International Journal of Emerging Technologies in Learning, which has published three pieces on the subject. Additionally, the investigation found that instruction, perception, and performance are the most commonly used keywords. However, involvement and motivation are mentioned infrequently in research reports.

Abstract

Interactive learning media can engage young learners to effectively absorb learning materials. Therefore, this developmental research was conducted to produce an interactive game that improves young learners' mastery of plural and singular nouns and enrich young learners' animal-related vocabulary. The researchers employed the ADDIE development model that began by analyzing problems related to the predetermined topic, analyzing the environment and work situation, designing the product, developing the product based on validation results from three expert validators, and conducting a product trial. The researchers investigated the product’s feasibility by performing a small-sccale trial and a large-scale trial. The research findings indicate that the developed interactive game was practical and useful. In short, the developed interactive game is feasible to assist young learners in learning plural and singular nouns and enrich their vocabulary.

Abstract

Background: Language is important for people in communication. Starting the communication, people have to understand what the speaker is saying and what is being said. In this case, the speech act theory of learning is important to overcome this problem. Objective: The purpose of this study was to find out the types of acts used in the translation of Abdullah Yusuf Ali's surah al-fatihah and al-alaa through reading and then describe the speech acts based on the type and classification of functions in the text. translation of surah al fatihah and surah. al-alaa by Abdullah Yusuf Ali. Methods: This study uses qualitative methods and Austin theory to determine the types of speech acts, the meaning of speech acts, and the function of speech acts in the translation of Al-Quran Surah Al-Fatihah and Surat Al-A'laa. , and the data collected is in the form of words instead of numbers. This study uses document sources to find research sources. speech act with Austin theory. The data source is by looking at several books and translations of the Koran by Abdullah Yusuf Ali as objects containing linguistic phenomena, especially aspects of speech acts. This research was conducted in 3 ways: interview, observation, and document analysis or artifact analysis. Results: Speech act is an activity in which participants interact with conventional language to achieve a result that involves two parties, namely the speaker and the speech partner in one main speech, in time, place, and speech situation. Conslusion: This study identifies 7 verses in Surah al-Fatihah and 19 verses in Surat Al-Alaa in Abdullah Yusuf Ali's translation of the Koran, in Surah Al-Fatihah there are 7 types of locutions, 18 illocutions with 6 functions. assertive, 4 directive, 1 commissive, 3 expressive, 5 declarative, and 7 perlocutionary sentences. Surah Al-Alaa contains 19 types of locutions, 31 illocutions with 8 assertive functions, 6 directives, 3 commissives, 1 expressive, 13 declarative sentences, and 19 perlocutionary sentences.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of ethics and responsibility in utilizing technology for English language learning within senior high school classrooms. Employing a qualitative research design, the study utilizes descriptive and qualitative approaches to analyze data, facilitating comprehension and drawing conclusions. Thematic structure analysis is employed to interpret the data, collected through semi-structured interviews. Findings suggest that English teachers in senior high schools adhere to ethical and responsible guidelines in technology usage. This research contributes insights into the ethical considerations and responsible practices associated with integrating technology into English language learning within senior high school settings.

Abstract

Most students in junior high school, especially seventh grade, had difficulty learning vocabulary. Even though vocabulary was very important for language learning. Duolingo could help with this problem because Duolingo could make students more interested and less bored when studying. The purpose of this research was to find out whether there was an effect of the Duolingo Application in increasing the vocabulary mastery of 7th grade students at SMPN 32 Bandar Lampung in the 2023/2024 academic year. This research methodology used in this research was quasi-experimental design. The population of this research was all 7th grade students of SMP Negeri 32 Bandar Lampung for the 2023/2024 academic year with a total of 180 students. This research sample consisted of two classes, namely class 7B with a total of 34 students as the experimental class, and class 7C with a total of 33 students as the control class. This meant that the total number of samples for this research was 67. The experimental class used Duolingo Application, while the control class used the “When English Rings a Bell” textbook and dictionaries. The sample for this research was determined using a cluster random sampling technique. The treatment was carried out in first meeting. In collecting data, this research used a test instrument in the form of 40 multiple choice questions. Before giving treatment, a pretest was carried out. Then, after the treatment has been carried out, a post test was given. The results showed that there is a significant difference in student scores before and after treatment. This research used hypothesis testing, especially the T-test, to find out whether the Duolingo Application had a significant effect on students' vocabulary scores. And the results show that Sig. (ρvalue) = 0.000 < α = 0.05. So Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. It can be concluded that there is a significant effect of using the Duolingo Application on increasing the vocabulary mastery of 7th grade students at SMP Negeri 32 Bandar Lampung in the 2023/2024 academic year.

Abstract

Writing as a productive skill in an EFL classroom is very important. In the writing class there needs to be an efficient relationship between teachers and students. In the early part of the 21st Century the various technologies available for use in the classroom have become extremely diverse and the way they are used in classrooms around the world may affect the outcomes we expect from our classrooms. This paper aims to examine the effectiveness of Edmodo in teaching writing to EFL students. Thus this review reports five relevant studies which] clearly indicated that Edmodo is an effective medium for teaching writing to EFL learners. The purpose of this review is to report: 1). Students' perceptions about the use of Edmodo in teaching writing for EFL students. 2). Edmodo benefits in teaching writing for EFL students. 3). Edmodo's shortcomings in teaching writing for EFL students. According to the findings, learning to use Edmodo on EFL students is very effective for improving writing skills in EFL students.
