Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ errors in solving questions of quadratic equation. This research type is descriptive research using qualitative approach. The subject of this research is 3 students of grade XI SMK Negeri in Makassar who were selected based on the number of errors experienced in solving questions of quadratic equation. Data collection techniques used in this study is diagnostic test and interview methods then through three stages of data analysis namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results obtained that the types of errors experienced by students in solving quadratic equation included conceptual error, principle error, and calculation error. This was because the low of students’ prerequisite knowledge about number operations, students didn’t understand about finding the roots of quadratic equation by completing the perfect square, students didn’t understand the abc formula to finding the roots of quadratic equation, and students inaccurate using arithmetic operations.

Abstract

This study analyzes the effectiveness of implementing Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) within a Problem Based Learning (PBL) framework in mathematics instruction at SMP Negeri 2 Takalar and examines its impact on students’ numeracy skills and mathematical dispositions. This research employed a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design involving 28 eighth-grade students, using numeracy tests, classroom observations, student response questionnaires, and mathematical disposition scales as instruments. The findings show that CRT was implemented effectively through the integration of local cultural contexts, inclusive interactions, and active student participation. Students’ numeracy skills improved significantly, with posttest scores surpassing the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) and N-Gain values falling within the medium to high categories. Student activity levels were categorized as active, responses were positive, and mathematical dispositions increased to the medium category. These results indicate that the application of CRT contributes to enhancing students’ numeracy skills and supports mathematics learning that is more meaningful, contextual, and culturally grounded.

Abstract

Rendahnya kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dalam pembelajaran matematika konvensional menuntut penerapan model pembelajaran yang lebih efektif untuk meningkatkan kualitas proses dan hasil belajar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keefektifan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMP Negeri 18 Barru. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen semu dengan menggunakan non-randomized pretest-posttest control group design. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 18 Barru yang berjumlah 147 siswa. Sampel diambil dengan menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling dan diperoleh kelas VII.1 (22 orang) sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VII.4 (24 orang) sebagai kelas kontrol. Perlakuan yang diberikan pada kelas eksperimen adalah pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD dengan scaffolding dan kelas kontrol menggunakan pembelajaran konvensional. Pengumpulan data menggunakan instrumen tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis. Teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah analisis statistik deskriptif dan analisis statistik inferensial. Analisis statistik deskriptif menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata posttest siswa kelas eksperimen adalah 81,1 dalam kategori tinggi dengan peningkatan nilai rata-rata sebesar 0,8 dalam kategori tinggi serta mencapai 86% siswa tuntas secara klasikal, sedangkan nilai rata-rata posttest siswa kelas kontrol adalah 68,5 dalam kategori cukup dengan peningkatan nilai rata-rata sebesar 0,6 dalam kategori sedang. Hasil analisis statistik inferensial untuk dua hipotesis menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran kooperatif STAD dengan scaffolding efektif secara signifikan terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 18 Barru.
