Abstract

This study aims to describe the errors made by students in solving fractional arithmetic operations based on Kastolan theory. This type of research is a qualitative research with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques used are tests and interview guidelines. The test is in the form of a description. The test is given to class VIII students at one of the SMP Negeri in the Selayar Island Regency totaling 23 students, then 3 students were taken as research subjects. The criteria for selecting research subjects were to have the most and varied errors. The data analysis technique used is data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The errors analyzed were categorized using the Kastolan error criteria which consisted of three types of errors. Based on the data from the research and discussion, it can be concluded that students made conceptual errors, procedural errors and technical errors. The most dominant type of error made by students is conceptual error.

Abstract

This research aims to describe students' thinking processes in solving trigonometry problems in terms of reflective and impulsive cognitive styles. It is a descriptive study with a quantitative and qualitative approach. The subjects in this research were four students from the 11th grade of a high school, two students in each group representing the reflective and impulsive cognitive styles based on their results in the trigonometry problem-solving test. Data were collected through tests and interviews. The instruments used for data collection included trigonometry problem-solving tests, MFFT cognitive style tests, and interview guidelines. The results of this research indicate that: (1) Students with a reflective cognitive style and high scores in the trigonometry problem-solving test (SRT)tend to undergo an assimilation process, reaching equilibrium at each stage of problem-solving. (2) Students with an impulsive cognitive style and high scores in the trigonometry problem-solving test (SIT) also experience an assimilation process, reaching equilibrium, but undergo accommodation during the stage of planning problem-solving strategies. (3) Students with both reflective and impulsive cognitive styles and low scores in the trigonometry problem-solving test (SRR and SIR) tend to be in a state of disequilibrium, unable to integrate the existing schemes in their minds with their knowledge.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the application of Geogebra integration PowerPoint 365 on mathematical representation ability in class XII. This research is pre-ecperiment with quantitative approach with techniques sampling is cluster random sampling. Data collection was carried using test result of mathematical representation ability (pretest and posttest), student quistionnaire responses, and observation sheets of student actvities. The data analysis technique used is descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The result of descriptive statistical analysis showed: (1) the average pretest result were 47,78 (low category). The average posttest result were 88,89 (high category), (2) the posttest result show that classical completeness is achived 100%, (3) the average normalized gain is 0,8 (high category), (4) the average percentage of activity students by 90,5% (very active), (5) the average percentage of students quistionnaire responses by 92% (very good). The result of inferential statistic analysis show: (1) the average value of students tought using Geogebra integration PowerPoint 365 was greater than 70, (2) the normalized gain average value was greater than 0,3 (medium category), (3) the average classical completeness greater than 85%. In general it can be concluded that implementation Geogebra integration PowerPoint 365 has an effect on student mathematical representation ability.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the level of visual thinking in understanding the formal definition of real numbers sequence based on cognitive style of Field Independent type and also cognitive style of Field Dependent type of students in Mathematis Department of UNM. Visual thinking is one of the abilities that becomes the bridge for transforming information from abstract-verbs to clearer forms. Wileman (Stoke, 2001) defines visual thinking as the ability to convert information of all kinds into images, graphics, or other forms that can help communicate information. The research method used in this research is descriptive research method design. The level of visual thinking is measured by using a test instrument with a special indicator measuring the level of visual thinking. The subject of this study consisted of two persons representing the type of cognitive style, the Field Dependent type cognitive style (FD) with the Field Independent cognitive style (FI). The results of this study show the location of the shortcomings and advantages of students in visual thinking on each type of cognitive style. In addition, it is found that there is a relationship between the level of visual thinking with the thinking style of the students in Mathematics Department of UNM.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the direct effect of Emotional Quotient (EQ) and Adversity Quotient (AQ) on Mathematics Learning Achievement in class XI SMA. In this analysis, EQ and AQ are independent variables while Mathematics Learning Achievement is the dependent variable. The sampling technique in this study used the cluster proportional random sampling method and the number of samples was 158 students. Data collection techniques, namely by using test and non-test instruments. The instruments used were (1) EQ questionnaire, (2) adversity response profile questionnaire, and (3) mathematics learning achievement test. Methods of data analysis using multiple linear regression analysis techniques. The results showed that: (1) students 'EQ was in the medium category, and students' AQ was in the camper category, while Mathematics Learning Achievement was in the low category, (2) EQ had an influence on Mathematics Learning Achievement, and (3) AQ has no influence on Mathematics Learning Achievement.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe the types of errors made by students in solving mathematical problems in the Two-Linear Linear Equation System and the factors causing students to make mistakes. The research subjects consisted of 2 students of class IX.A who were selected based on how many errors were made in solving math story problems. The instrument used is a written test that contains 1 item description and interview guidelines. The errors analyzed are categorized using the Newman error category which consists of 5 errors, namely reading errors, misunderstanding, errors in transforming, processing errors and errors in writing the final answer. The results showed that based on the Newman error criteria, the errors that occurred were not being able to write down what was known and what was asked, not being able to make a mathematical model correctly, unable to use procedures, wrong in using count operations and unable to conclude the final results. The cause of students making mistakes is not understanding the information in the problem, lack of accuracy of students, and lack of skills, forgetting, and hurrying in answering questions. The results of this study are expected to add insight into the types of errors made by junior high school students in the material system of linear equations of two variables, especially in working on problems related to everyday life so that in the learning process mistakes made can be minimized immediately.
