Abstract

Social, economic, and institutional aspects are crucial for supporting sustainable fisheries management. The objective of this research is to assess the level of sustainability of the social, economic, and institutional aspects of fisheries management, especially at the fishing port level. In this research, field research was conducted using composite analysis and flag modelling visualization in the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) as a tool to assess the sustainability of each aspect. Data were obtained from interviews and questionnaires answered by 90 respondents, including fishermen, port officers, and fisheries entrepreneurs in the Palabuhanratu Nusantara Fishing Port. The results showed that, overall, the sustainability condition in the social aspect was good with a score of 79.69, while the economic aspect was moderate with a score of 55.32, and the institutional aspect was good with a score of 80.28. The lowest levels of sustainability in the social and economic aspects were found in the indicators of stakeholder participation and fishery household income, both in the medium category. In the institutional aspect, the lowest level of sustainability was found in the indicator of compliance with responsible fisheries management principles, which was in the good category. These results are expected to provide stakeholders with the necessary information to take corrective steps to improve sustainability in fisheries management, particularly in the social and economic aspects.

Abstract

Local communities have ways of managing and utilizing forest products, including leopard cats' habitat. Communities have knowledge and perceptions passed down from one generation to the next through community participation in their environment. This activity aims to reveal the community's knowledge regarding the role of leopard cats in the Cisokan. The implementation of this activity consists of collecting issues and data, FGD, and evaluation. The results show that almost all informants do not know the role of leopard cats in controlling prey animal populations and agricultural pests. Although leopard cats prey on domestic birds, they are not considered a nuisance to the community. After a joint discussion with the community regarding the ecological role of leopard cats, 79% of informants understood leopard cats' role in nature, which indirectly supported agriculture. Besides that, 70% of respondents understand that leopard cats should be protected.

Abstract

Abstract

Bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus) and Yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) are a marine commodity that has high nutritional content and economic value in the market. However, based on data from Palabuhanratu Archipelago Fishing Port, there has been a high decrease in the catch of Bigeye tuna and Yellowfin tuna since 2016 although slightly increased in the following year, so it is necessary to analyze the size trends of them as a target fish of many fishermen at the port. The purpose of this study is to determine the size trend of Bigeye and Yellowfin tuna for the next few years and to determine the steps to maintain their sustainability. The method used in this research is a case study and analyzed using regression analysis. The results showed that the size trend of Bigeye tuna and Yellowfin tuna catch until 2022 will tend to decline. This indicates the occurrence of overfishing so that it does not provide opportunities for fish to grow and develop. Therefore, catch control efforts are needed to maintain the sustainability of fish stocks.

Abstract

Comparison between the usages of fisheries resources and the allowable catch in Indonesia is in the fully exploited category, which means that fishing efforts are maintained with close monitoring. This study aims to analyze whether fisheries management practices, especially in Palabuhanratu Nusantara Fishing Port, have been managed sustainably or not based on indicators in the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM), and identify strategies for developing and strengthening fisheries management in the area according to the results of the EAFM evaluation. The method used is a survey method using composite analysis and flag modeling visualization techniques. This method will assess the EAFM indicator as a multi-criteria system that ends in a composite index in the form of a score of values related to the level of achievement or sustainability of fisheries management by EAFM principles. The results show that the mean composite value for all EAFM domains is 66.72 with a good category. Then the strategies for developing and strengthening the sustainability of fisheries management at Palabuhanratu Nusantara Fishing Port are through increasing the status of the port to become an Ocean Fishery Port, increasing the added value of the economy of fishery products, strengthening the regulations with fair law enforcement, optimizing the usage of technology in fisheries management, and strengthening the system fishery business capital. It is hoped that similar research can be carried out at least at the coastal fishing port to ocean fishing port, as one of the bases for determining the sustainability of fisheries management at a wider level.
