Abstract

This study aims to compare the views of adolescents with divorced and complete parents on marriage. Using comparative method, the view on marriage was measured by marital horizon with additional open questions on learned criteria from parents' marriage. Through convenience sampling, the participants recruited were 319 adolescents aged between 21 and 28 years old live in Bandung with condition of divorced parents and complete parents. The descriptive analysis and Mann Whitney test show that there are differences on prioritizing marriage and the ideal age to get married. However, there is no differences on ideal age differences in marriage and criteria that should be prepared before marriage. Also, this study found religious affiliation as a criterion that should be prepared marriage and it is what they learned from their parents' marriage.

Abstract

Having child who has intellectual disability brings out parenting stress toward mother. This research was carried out to obtain an intervention program design by using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy principles to decrease the level of parenting stress mother who has a mild intellectual disability child among 6-12 years old. After designing, the module of intervention was tried out by quasi-experimental method with pretest-posttest one-group design, involving two participants who are the mother of a Mild Intellectual Disability child that used a purposive sampling technique. The data were obtained through interviews, observations, and questionnaires. This research shows that the module can be used to decrease the level of parenting stress.Keywords: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), parenting stress, psychological flexibility, the mother who has a mild intellectual disability child.

Abstract

This research was carried out to obtain an intervention program design by using Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) principles which could decrease sibling rivalry in adolescent who has younger sibling with intellectual disability.This research involved two pairs of mother and child (adolescent) who were sampled through use of purposive sampling and tried out by using quasi experimental method with A-B-A design. The data were obtained through interviews, observation, and questionnaire. The measurement tools were Sibling Rivalry questionnaire and Dyadic Parent-Child Interaction Coding System III (DPICS-III). There was decline in sibling rivalry and increase in mother’s ability to apply PCIT skills. Meanwhile the qualitative data showed that PCIT skills mastered and applied by the mothers in daily basis parenting made the children to feel respected and could decrease jealousy, anger, and rivalry feeling with their siblings.Keywords: Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Sibling Rivalry, Sibling Relationship, Adolescent,Intellectual Disability.

Abstract

Online game is one of the most popular leisure activity for adolescents. Playing it excessively can lead to addiction. Once addicted, behavior problems arise and at a certain level of addiction, psychological treatment will be needed. The aim of this study is to describe online gaming addiction in terms of four levels of addiction. The participants are 41 high school students (12-14 years old) who lived in Jatinangor. They are active players in online games using mobile phones, computers, or other media. Data were collected using an open-ended questionnaire than qualitatively analysed by the way of thematic analysis. Result shows that participants mostly perceived playing online games as a pleasurable and rewarding activity (recreational level of addiction). In this level, there are negative impacts that occur when they are playing online games, but the impacts disappear when they stop playing an online game. In at-risk level, participants feeling the rewarding effects (e.g. stress release). Participants accept when their parents start complaining about their gaming behavior. In problematic use level, the gaming behavior is increasingly done alone and often dismissed parents’ concern about their gaming behavior. In fully addict level, only the amount of time for playing online games reported (8 hours per day). Keywords: addiction, game online, adolescence, online mobile gaming

Abstract

This study aims to observe the relationship between parental autonomy support and academic motivation among junior high students. This correlational study collected data from 124 students and their mothers. Convenience sampling was used. The instruments employed were Perceived Parental Autonomy Support Scale and Academic Self-Regulation Questionnaire translated into Indonesian. The Spearman’s Rank was used for correlation analysis. The results revealed that parental autonomy support and maternal autonomy support has a positive correlation with students’ autonomous motivation. The more frequently students receive support from parents and the more frequently mothers give support to their children, the higher motivation students have to perform activities they desire. Maternal autonomy support also associates positively with students’ controlled motivation. The more often mothers give freedom, the higher motivation students have to do activities coming from internal and external pressures. Parental control perceived by students and maternal control have no link with overall motivation.

Abstract

These days, smartphone seems to be inseparable from everyone’s lives, with increasing usage by adolescents in Indonesia. Besides its numerous benefits in one’s life, smartphone usage might lead to smartphone addiction. This cross-sectional study was conducted to obtain empirical evidence of smartphone addiction and smartphone usage behavior in early adolescents, aged 12-15 years old during Covid-19 pandemic. This study was conducted in November 2020, through an online platform (Google Form). Smartphone addiction was assessed by Smartphone Addiction Scale – Short Version (SAS-SV) in Bahasa Indonesia. Smartphone usage behavior was assessed using an alternate-choice format question about activities with their smartphone and the duration. There were 120 participants obtained using convenient sampling. These participants were mostly aged 14 (55%), from West Java (85.8%), female (60%), and owned a smartphone (95%). Based on the cut-offs, 56.7% of the participants had smartphone addiction (male 22.5%, female 34.2%). This finding implies that an intervention program is needed to reduce or prevent smartphone addiction for early adolescents in Indonesia. Dominant dimensions of smartphone addiction were positive anticipation, daily-life disturbance, and overuse. Duration of smartphone usage per day was mostly 3,5-6 hours per day, those who were addicted tend to spend more time with their smartphone. There was also no significant difference in gender (t(118)=-0,78; p=0,44). The limitation of this research is the limited generalizability of results due to the sampling method used. For future research, we suggest using probability sampling techniques and use duration report from smartphone application to measure it more objectively.

Abstract

Instagram bukan hanya menjadi media untuk mendapatkan informasi mengenai pasangan tetapi juga dapat menimbulkan kecemburuan bagi para remaja. Kecemburuan seringkali diasosiasikan dengan hal yang negatif pada sebuah hubungan romantis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat hubungan antara kecemburuan dengan kualitas hubungan romantis pada remaja pengguna instagram usia 15-18 tahun yang berpacaran. Alat ukur yang digunakan untuk mengukur kecemburuan merupakan hasil adaptasi dan modifikasi alat ukur multidimensional jealousy dari Pfeiffer & Wong (1989) dengan reliabilitas sebesar 0.950. Kualitas hubungan romantis diukur dengan menggunakan alat ukur PBSC dan SBSC dari Ducat & Zimmer-Gembeck (2010) yang sudah diadaptasi oleh Sarrah (2015) berdasarkan self determination theory (SDT) dengan reliabilitas sebesar 0.923. Kedua alat ukur ini memiliki bukti validitas berupa evidence based in test content.  Responden penelitian ini berjumlah 108 remaja pengguna instagram berusia 15-18 tahun yang berpacaran. Melalui teknik statistik pearson correlation didapatkan hasil bahwa hubungan kecemburuan dengan kualitas hubungan romantis remaja pengguna instagram usia 15-18 tahun yang berpacaran adalah sebesar -0.291 dengan p<0.01. Semakin tinggi kecemburuan yang dimiliki remaja maka semakin rendah kualitas hubungan romantis yang dimilikinya.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan guna memperoleh rancangan dan melaksanakan ujicoba program pelatihan Padjadjaran-Mayeroff Caring Principles (PMCP) yang mampu meningkatkan pengetahuan ibu mengenai prinsip pendampingan terhadap anak mild intellectual disability usia 7-10 tahun. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori dasar pendampingan yang disampaikan oleh Milton Mayeroff (1971) sebagai bahan acuan untuk pembuatan modul. Pelatihan dirancang menggunakan pendekatan instructional design, proses validasi dilakukan melalui review oleh dua orang psikolog. Ujicoba pada penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan rancangan one group pretest posttest. Ujicoba dilakukan guna memperoleh hasil jika modul yang telah dibuat mampu untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan ibu yang memiliki anak mild intellectual disability. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah purposive sampling; terdapat empat orang ibu yang menjadi responden penelitian ini. Alat ukur yang digunakan adalah prinsip pendampingan yang diturunkan dari teori Milton Mayeroff (1971). Alat ukur ini sudah divalidasi oleh dua orang psikolog, diujicoba, dan nilai reliabilitasnya α = 0.904. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan nilai selama mengikuti pelatihan yang ditunjukkan dari nilai pretest dan posttest. Ibu-ibu responden mengalami peningkatan pengetahuan mengenai prinsip-prinsip pendampingan anak dengan mild intellectual disability sebanyak 21%.

Abstract

Saat menjalani masa perkembangannya, remaja lebih banyak berinteraksi dengan teman sebaya dibandingkan dengan keluarga inti. Ketika berinteraksi, individu dapat menemukan beragam macam sudut pandang. Kemampuan untuk memahami sudut pandang orang lain disebut kemampuan perspective taking. Kemampuan perspective taking yang matang dapat membantu individu untuk menciptakan relasi yang positif mengingat individu mampu memahami sudut pandang orang lain yang dapat saja berbeda dari dirinya. Untuk mengetahui kemampuan perspective taking matang atau tidak, peneliti memerlukan alat ukur. Namun, berdasarkan penelusuran jurnal dan buku, peneliti tidak menemukan alat ukur perspective taking yang sesuai mengukur remaja di Bandung. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti bermaksud untuk mengadaptasi alat ukur perspective taking. Alat ukur yang diadaptasi adalah panduan wawancara yang dibuat oleh Selman pada tahun 1977 (Selman, 1980). Dalam proses adaptasi, peneliti mengalihbahasakan dan menyusun alat ukur yang sesuai dengan situasi dan kondisi remaja yang ada di Bandung. Responden penelitian ini sebanyak 55 orang yang berasal dari salah satu SMPN yang ada di bandung dengan kisaran usia 12-14 tahun. Hasil penelitian menjelaskan proses adaptasi dan hasil olah data dengan alat ukur perspective taking. Proses adaptasi meliputi (1) menjelaskan konsep karakteristik setiap level menjadi indikator yang lebih konkret dan mudah; (2) mengalihbahasakan alat ukur; (3) membuat administrasi  alat ukur; (4) menyesuaikan cerita dan pertanyaan dengan karakteristik subyek penelitian, dan(5) membuat penilaian. Hasil olah data menunjukkan alat ukur ini memenuhi uji reliabilitas dan memiliki bukti validitas. Reliabilitas alat ukur menggunakan Intraclass Corelation Coefficient sebesar 0.96 (r = .96) dan bukti validitas alat ukur dengan bukti validitas konten. Dengan demikian, adaptasi alat ukur perspective taking mampu mengukur kemampuan perspective taking pada remaja usia 12-14 tahun di SMP Negeri XXX di Bandung. Kata kunci: Kemampuan Perspective Taking, Alat Ukur, Panduan Wawancara, Reliabilitas Interrater.

Abstract

This study aimed to find correlations between the quality of life, happiness, and life satisfaction of the general population of Bandung city. There were 370 participants with averageage of 20.7 years, mostly male (55.7%) and with a secondary level of education (SMP-SMA; 57.0%) who completed three questionnaires: (i) WHOQOL-BREF to measure quality of life, (ii) Happiness Thermometer to measure happiness, and (iii) Self-Anchoring Cantril Striving Scale to measure life satisfaction. Multiple linear regression tests were used with happiness and life satisfaction as dependent variables and quality of life as an independent variable. The results showed that the psychological and physical domains of quality of life were significant predictors of happiness and satisfaction of life, where the psychological domain proved significant in predicting all four-time points: happiness today (β=0.039; p<0.05), happiness throughout life (β=0.043; p<0.05), current life satisfaction (β=0.034; p<0.05) and life satisfaction five years from now (β=0.017; p<0.05). Physical domain was similar to psychological except for current life satisfaction (β=0.029; 0.023; 0.014; p<0.05). The environmental domain had been shown to predict happiness throughout life significantly (β=0.019; p<0.05) and life satisfaction five years from now (β=-0.015; p<0.05). The social domain was not found to be a significant predictor. It can be concluded that improving the psychological and physical function of Indonesian people and their environmental conditions will lead them to a happier and more satisfying life.
