Abstract

The coverage of complete basic immunization in Indonesia in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic had not yet reached the expected target. The province with the lowest coverage was Aceh, with only 41.8%, indicating a significant gap from the national target. This study aims to determine the relationship between parental roles and the coverage of complete basic immunization for infants during the Covid-19 pandemic in the Banda Sakti area. This research used a cross-sectional design with a cluster sampling technique. The univariate analysis showed that most of the children were male, totaling 48 (51.6%). The age of the fathers was mostly between 26–35 years (52 respondents or 55.9%), and the mothers’ age was also mostly between 26–35 years (63 respondents or 67.7%). The majority of both fathers and mothers had a senior high school education, with 49 (52.7%) and 39 (41.9%) respectively. Most of the basic immunization coverage in the Banda Sakti area was incomplete, amounting to 74 infants (79.6%), and the parental role was categorized as poor. The bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test and its alternatives showed a p value < 0.05, indicating a significant relationship between the roles of fathers, mothers, and parents in general, and the coverage of complete basic immunization. The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between parental roles and the coverage of complete basic immunization for infants during the Covid-19 pandemic in the Banda Sakti area.

Abstract

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a permanent, non-progressive motor disorder that occurs due to brain damage experienced before, during, or after birth. This condition is generally characterized by activity limitations and can be accompanied by various other disorders, such as delayed cognitive development, visual impairment, speech disorders, and neuromuscular disorders. Management of cerebral palsy is usually multidisciplinary, including physiotherapy, behavioral therapy, speech therapy, nutritional management, pharmacotherapy, and surgical intervention, with the aim of improving the patient's quality of life. This case report discusses a male patient, An. AZ, aged 4 years and 6 months, who was brought by his parents to the Emergency Department of Cut Meutia General Hospital, North Aceh with the chief complaint of seizures that had occurred two days before admission and had worsened in the past day. The patient had been diagnosed with cerebral palsy since early childhood and regularly underwent physiotherapy. From the anamnesis, it was revealed that the patient experienced weakness on the left side of the body, which was more dominant than the right side. This condition is consistent with the manifestation of hemiplegia in cerebral palsy patients. Physical examination revealed delayed motor development, increased muscle tone on the left side, and enhanced pathological reflexes. Acute seizure management included administering anticonvulsant medication according to protocol, monitoring vital signs, and close observation in the inpatient ward. In addition to pharmacological therapy, the patient was advised to continue regular physiotherapy to maintain motor function, prevent contractures, and support the development of daily activities. This case emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive approach to the management of cerebral palsy, particularly when complicated by seizures. Integration of acute medical care, rehabilitative therapy, and family support plays a crucial role in improving the patient's quality of life.

Abstract

Sauce is a processed product made from fruits or vegetables in paste form and is commonly used as a food condiment, especially in popular street foods like meatballs (bakso) in Indonesia. Inadequate attention to hygiene and sanitation in food handling can lead to contamination by microorganisms, including Staphylococcus aureus. This study aimed to evaluate the hygiene and sanitation practices of meatball street vendors around elementary schools in Banda Sakti District, Lhokseumawe, and to detect the presence of S. aureus contamination in the sauces used, as well as assess compliance with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 7388-2009. The research involved interviews and observational assessments of vendors, as well as laboratory analysis of 25 sauce samples using the Spread Plate method on Baird Parker Agar with three levels of dilution and colony counting based on the Aerobic Plate Count formula. Samples were collected using purposive sampling. The results showed that vendors had good hygiene and sanitation practices, and no S. aureus contamination was found in the sauce samples. Therefore, the sauces met the microbial safety standards set by SNI 7388-2009. In conclusion, the vendors maintained proper hygiene and sanitation, and the sauces used were free from Staphylococcus aureus contamination, indicating compliance with food safety standards.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an acute infectious disease caused by the dengue virus and transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. DHF remains a significant public health concern in Indonesia, including in Aceh Province, which reports a high incidence rate annually. North Aceh ranks seventh in the number of DHF cases among all districts/cities in the province. Transmission occurs through the bite of an infected mosquito or when mosquitoes acquire the virus after biting a viremic individual. This study aims to assess environmental and host factors among DHF patients admitted to Cut Meutia General Hospital. A descriptive study with a cross-sectional design was conducted, involving 38 patients aged 1–17 years hospitalized from January 2019 to December 2021. The findings revealed that 78.9% of patients lived in homes without window screens, and 89.5% had water storage containers in their household environment. Regarding host factors, the majority of patients were aged 11–17 years (65.8%) and male (81.6%), with moderate levels of knowledge (55.3%) and preventive behavior (65.8%) toward DHF. These findings highlight the relevance of environmental and individual determinants in the occurrence of DHF and may inform future disease prevention and control strategies in endemic areas.
