Abstract

This paper explores the creative translation of narratives into atmospheric qualities of space using artificial intelligence (AI). The study transforms the textual descriptions of events based on the notable works of Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist into generative architectural representations. Exploration of prompts in text-to-image generative technologies is still defined by the description of forms and context instead of based on events. The study argues that utilising stories of events as prompts creates possibilities for a more enriching and evocative visual of architecture. This study utilises the Microsoft Bing Image Generator DALL-E 3 to generate images based on prompts derived from key events of The Alchemist. Nine particular events of The Alchemist novel are transformed into images, which are further transformed into AI-generated prompts. The study follows by regenerating the prompts into another set of images. The resulting AI-generated images reveal the potential of AI in creating architectural spaces that embody the atmospheric qualities of The Alchemist narratives, with varying degrees of details and nuances of the narrative events. Through annotating the generated forms, the contrast of lights, and the materiality of the generated images, the study creatively reconstructs the atmospheric qualities of The Alchemist events. In doing so, the study blurs the lines between textual and spatial storytelling, empowering the craft of meaningful and impactful spaces through the power of narrative. This paper highlights the potential of AI not just as a tool for visualisation but also as a catalyst for innovative and creative exploration in the design field.

Abstract

Abstract - Unlike adults, children perceive their spatial surroundings differently. Such perception then triggers specific ways of using space. The local children of Prai Ijing village utilise their environment to accommodate their activities and spatial needs—often incorporating creativity— in their daily, and traditional settings. This study aims to learn children’s perceptions of using their surrounding space in a traditional village. Specifically, this research explores local Prai Ijing children's perception of the village's unique cultural setting. Prai Ijing—a traditional village—located in Tebara village (Waikabubak, West Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara) is an award-winning tourist destination from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. The data were compiled through observations and interviews in the daily lives of the Prai Ijing’s local children. The data were then analyzed using qualitative-descriptive methods to describe children’s perceptions of spatial use. Thus, this paper concludes with two points. Firstly, the court in between the housing complex as the Open Space, and the house terrace are the most significant settings for the children of Prai Ijing.. Secondly, the different variables in the settings bring out the specific ways Prai Ijing children can use the space. Abstract

Abstract - In Architecture and Order by (Pearson, 1993) , when explaining the relationship between architecture and culture, he used the term social space, which is a space formed by society through the habits, culture, and beliefs of a group of people. Social space can also be interpreted as a space created from the accumulation of group perceptions and beliefs in a space. Social space is formed from the relations of objects in space that generally facilitate and support the activities of a group of people. So, the social space that is formed should be able to accommodate the needs of activities and follow the identity of the people who inhabit it. In Jembrana Regency, there are two villages with unique cultures, Palasari Village and Blimbingsari Village. Palasari Village is a village with Balinese natives who embrace the Catholic religion, while Blimbingsari Village is a village with a homogeneous Balinese population who adheres to Christianity. Since the beginning, the two villages were designed with the values of religion and belief, Palasari Village was established with the "Dorf Model" which is a Catholic Village with a Balinese face, while Blimbingsari Village was designed to be a Christian village. This led to the formation of unique social, cultural and religious activities in these two villages. Over time, the two villages developed into tourist villages with the main attraction of pilgrimage tourism. This study aims to determine the role of religion in the architecture of Palasari Catholic Village and Blimbingsari Christian Village. The final result of this research is to reveal the role of religious culture on architecture in the two villages. This research is interesting to carry out because the studies that have been done on the two villages have not yet discussed the role of religion in the architecture of the two villages. Data collection in this study was carried out using observation, interviews, documentation, and a literature study method. Then the data collected is classified into morphological and topological data which will then be analyzed by (Pearson, 1993) theory of the influence of culture on architecture. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative by describing the existing state of the two villages and revealing the relationship between belief and religious values with the architecture of the two villages. Based on this analysis, the two villages will be compared and conclusions are drawn based on the analysis result. It was concluded that the architecture of Palasari and Blimbingsari villages was influenced by the religion of each villager as a result of the application of conservative beliefs & religious values, religious activities & rituals, as well as ethnic, group & social order factors owned by residents of both villages. Abstract

Abstract - The image is a visualization that formed by the interaction between human as an observer and an object. The visualization is an impression of an object to be easier to remember by the observer. The image in architecture has a role to give a picture to the observer about the structure of a space or region. The observer will have a picture of the space whenever remembering it. The appearance of the image will be different according to who the observer is. Building an image of a particular place is needed because it will create meaning or value for the one that has been there to build a connection to the place. If anyone remembers there is a memory left there, anyone has a tendency to value the place. Trusmi Village in Cirebon already has an identity as a village that full of batik artisan and still preserves their culture. This identity is still preserved since they still doing things that related to the ancestors’ tradition and batik crafts. This study aims to understand the influence of daily activities and traditional activities carried out by the community on the image-forming elements in Trusmi Village. The place to carry out activities will be identified by the community as an element forming the image of Trusmi Village. The method used is quantitative, data obtained from literature studies, direct observations in the field, and interviews with residents of Trusmi Village. Observations focused on the activities of the residents and their places of activity, which were then mapped out by activities in the village. Then, from the activity data, it will be analyzed with image-forming elements so that it can be seen the path used for the activity, the edge that becomes the boundary of the activity space, the district found as the center of activity, nodes that become the point gathering, and landmarks that guide activity orientation. The conclusion of this study, it was found that the "Image of Trusmi Village" can be found based on the analysis of the place where community activities are carried out in Trusmi Village. This shows the influence of the residents' daily activities and activities carried out as a tradition informing the physical picture of Trusmi Village. Trusmi Cirebon village can be concluded as a village whose image is easy to remember because in this village you can find the Main Path which is the place for daily activities, Strong Edge which is a continuous wall of batik showrooms on the Main Path, District Center for Ritual and Commercial Activities, Anchor Nodes, and Landmarks are used to direct the community within the village and visitors from outside the village.
