Abstract

More than half of 50 million worldwide epilepsy patients expected to live in Asia. Public knowledge and attitudes toward epilepsy patients need to be known to prevent social discrimination. Cross-Sectional study was conducted on 223 samples (lecturers, staff and students) at Dian Nuswantoro University. Data collection used questionnaire. The results showed that, 184 respondents(82.5%) had information about epilepsy, 91 respondents (40.8%) knew the cause of epilepsy, and 164 respondents (73.5%) knew that epilepsy was not contagious. While attitudes toward epilepsy patients, 137 respondents (61.4%) are willing to help, 8 respondents (3.6%) will stay away when seeing epilepsy patients experience a seizure attack. Knowledge about epilepsy affect attitudes toward epilepsy patients (p = 0.003; r = 0.182). Ignorance about the transmission of epilepsy (p = 0,007, r = -0,180) and understanding that epilepsy is a curable disease (p = 0,031, r = -0,145) have more influence on low willingness to give help epilepsy patients when they experience seizure attack. In-depth interviews need to be done on future research to gain a deeper information about public’s attitude toward epilepsy patients. Keywords: epilepsy, knowledge, attitude

Abstract

During the COVID-19 outbreak, medical record staff also have a risk of COVID-19. The Medical Record Department should consider the occupational health and safety implementation during the pandemic to protect their staff. This activity aimed to increase the knowledge of Medical Record officers in Semarang City about the risk of disease exposure inside or outside their work area. This activity was held in a workshop through: a discussion of the topic needs with related groups, pre-test, topic presentation, and post-test. Participants in this activity were 17 medical recorders from several COVID-19 referral hospitals in Semarang City. The results of this workshop showed that the participants' knowledge of occupational health and safety management and strategies for supporting medical record services in a pandemic situation in most of the participants (83.3%) increased. Knowledge of ideal hand washing time to prevent disease needs more consideration by providing information media at handwashing stations or in several areas as a reminder for officers to provide better practice on their health and work safety protocols.

Abstract

The limited information obtained by mothers is one of the obstacles in producing correct stunting information. This community service aims to increase mother literacy about stunting toddlers in the stunting locus village, Banyumas Regency using the brainstorming method. The stages of the program start from preparation, pre-test, giving material and post-test. The results of the pre-test and post-test showed that mothers' knowledge about stunting increased by 37% compared to before assistance. Knowledge that has increased the most is about how to handle stunting in toddlers (79%). However, there is no increase in knowledge about how to vary food that is good for stunting toddlers. Stunting education assistance activities using the brainstorming method need to be carried out routinely for mothers of stunting toddlers to increase their knowledge and change the behavior in handling stunting in their toddlers so that the prevalence of stunting can decrease.

Abstract

One of the regional hospitals in Pemalang Regency has not compiled an Outpatient Disease Index and the process of making other indexes is still manual. The study aims to determine the process of making an index of Medical Record Units at Pemalang Regency Regional Hospitals in 2022. This research is qualitative research with a case study approach. Data collection through semi-structured interviews with indexing officers and observations on the index table design. Analysis of interview results and observations using synthesis analysis. The results of this study show that the data sources for the RI and RJ disease index, patient index, surgery index, doctor index, and death index made by hospitals are taken from medical record documents, while the data sources for the Patient Index and Inpatient Index are taken from SIMRS. Index data processing is done manually (inpatient disease index, outpatient index, doctor index, surgery index, and mortality index) and electronically (patient index). The use of SIMRS in Unit Indexing is not fully used because most of the process is done manually (Microsoft Excel), except for the Patient Index. Suggestion, To improve the quality of hospital services, the hospital should evaluate the performance of medical personnel in the ward in inputting resume data of patients returning home both in SIMRS and in DRM. In addition, improving the features or functions of SIMRS in order to collect, process, and present all index data (Inpatient Disease Index, Outpatient Index, Patient Index, Operation Index, Doctor Index, and Death Index) needed by the hospital.

Abstract

PMK No. 24 of 2022 requires all health services to implement electronic medical records no later than the end of 2023. RSU Banyumanik 2 Semarang has been using an electronic medical record system since 2022 with SIMRS called SIM KHANZA. The aim of this research is to describe the implementation of electronic medical records at RSU Banyumanik 2 Semarang in 2024. This research is qualitative research with a case study approach. Data were collected by interviewing the head of the medical records installation, and a questionnaire to measure knowledge of 7 medical records officers and 41 nurses. Interview data analysis was carried out using the content analysis method. Characteristic data analysis is presented in the frequency distribution table. The results show that the majority or 87.5% of respondents have good knowledge about the implementation of Electronic Medical Records. The Hospital has provided an operational budget for Electronic Medical Records. SIMRS RSU Banyumanik 2 Semarang is called SIM KHANZA where all medical record sheets are generally integrated, except for Informed Consent because it relates to clarity of authentication for both doctor and patient. Infrastructure is available in all service units that use Electronic Medical Records. Suggestions, hospitals should regularly monitor facilities and infrastructure every week, upgrade computer specifications with larger data storage capacity so that service is fast and uninterrupted.

Abstract

Length of hospital stay is an essential indicator of the quality of inpatient hospital services, including in RSD KRMT Wongsonegoro as a Type B hospital in Semarang City. There were various factors related to the length of hospital stay. Therefore, the study objective was to determine the factors associated with the length of stay of inpatients at RSD KRMT Wongsonegoro Semarang. The cross-sectional study distributed a questionnaire to 122 inpatients in RSD KRMT Wongsonegoro from January to February 2024. The variables in this study were patient characteristics, self-rated health status (physical and mental), and hospital stay. The data analysis used descriptive and inferential statistics with comparative tests to determine the study objective. The results showed that the average length of hospital stay among the respondents was five days. The majority of respondents in this study were female patients (55.7%), junior high school (36.9%) and high school graduates (31.1%), and aged >45 years or older (63.9%). The results of the comparison test showed that gender (p-value: 0.987), education (p-value: 0.278), and age (p-value: 0.425) were not associated with the number of patient care days. Based on the comparison test, self-rated physical health (p-value: 0.034) and self-rated mental health (p-value: 0.016) were significantly associated with the number of hospital days. In general, patients who perceived poor physical and psychological health had longer hospital stays than patients who perceived better physical and mental health. Therefore, hospitals need to assess patients' perceived physical and mental health status to improve inpatient services.

Abstract

Traffic-related accidents involving university students, particularly those aged 18–25, have become a growing concern in Indonesia, with many incidents occurring due to inadequate infrastructure and lack of traffic discipline in densely populated campus environments. This community service program was initiated by Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (UDINUS) in Semarang to address these challenges through the establishment of a “Campus Safety Riding Zone.” The program aimed to increase road safety awareness, promote safe behavior among students and residents, and improve campus-area traffic infrastructure. Activities included coordination with local authorities, painting red-marked safe zones and zebra crossings, installing speed limit signs (30 km/h), and distributing an educational pocketbook titled “Crossing Etiquette on Campus” The intervention area, located on Nakula I Street, was selected due to its high traffic volume between the subdistrict office and UDINUS Building A. Post-intervention observations indicated that drivers generally reduced their speed when entering the safety zone, although issues like improper parking persisted. The initiative demonstrated that a combination of infrastructure enhancement, community education, and multi-stakeholder collaboration can effectively foster a safer traffic culture in university environments. This model offers a replicable framework for other higher education institutions to support student and pedestrian safety through community-based strategies.
