Abstract

Abstract: Fundamental motor skills (FMS) are crucial one to be taught in early years including Early Childhood Education (ECE), because basic movement skills cannot develop naturally with age. One of them is the ability of the control object. However, preliminary research shows that teachers are not qualified yet to teach FMS. Because of that, it is necessary to know the extent of the children control object ability. This study aims to determine the level of object control of ECE children based on age and gender in the City of Payakumbuh. This study is a comparison with a sample of 48 children based on certain considerations. Data of control object ability level was obtained through TGMD-2 sub-test comprising of catching, throwing, kicking and hitting the ball. Data was analyzed using analysis of variance (ANAVA) technique. The results of the study showed that: 1) There was a difference in the level of control object ability between male and female students with a Sig value of 0.000 0.05. 2) There was a difference in the level of ability of the control object between the ages of 6 and 5 years with a Sig value of 0.019 0.05. 3) There was an interaction between age and gender on the ability level of the control object with a Sig value of 0.019 0.05.
