Abstract

This research was aimed at improving writing skill in narrative texts by using storybird for Grade X Teknik Komputer Jaringan 1 students of SMK Yayasan Pendidikan Persada Indah (YPPI) Tualang, Kabupaten Siak in the academic year of 2017/2018. This particular research was categorized as action research. The actions were implemented in two cycles based on the class schedule. The researcher worked collaboratively with the English teacher, as the collaborator and the students. The subjects of the research were 20 students of class X Teknik Komputer Jaringan 1 of SMK Yayasan Pendidikan Persada Indah (YPPI) Tualang, Kabupaten Siak in the academic year of 2017/2018. The data of the study were taken by using test, observation checklist, field note, and interview. The research findings showed that the use of storybird in teaching writing narrative texts was able to improve the students’ writing skills. It included their abilities in generating ideas, vocabularies, language use and mechanics. Based on the quantitative data, the students’ based score was 71.70 and increased into 72.30 in the test of Cycle I and became 85.30 in the test of Cycle II. Then, the gain score was 13 points. There were several factors that influence the improvement, such as the students’ interest with social media like storybird. They enjoyed writing narrative text in storybird and being more creative. Besides, teaching writing narrative texts using storybird could attract students’ attention and motivation. The students became more enthusiastic in writing after using storybird in the class It indicated that the students made a considerable improvement in writing narrative texts.

Abstract

This research aimed at describing the factors influence the students’ learning outcome in Translation Subject by using Android. This research conducted at the fourth semester of English Department of Education and Teachers Training Faculty of Universitas Lancang Kuning. The sample of this research is 30 % of the total number of the population, they are about 7 students. The method of this research is descriptive analysis. Before getting the data by interviewing the students and observation during teaching and learning process of Translation Subject by using android, they had got a test of translating an English text into bahasa Indonesia. Finally, it is found that there are three factors influence the students learning outcome in translation subject by using android. They are motivated media, learning atmosphere, and easy access.

Abstract

This research aims at improving students’ writing performance on narrative text by using digital application namely edmodo. The method of the research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The actions were implemented in a cycle. The researcher collaborates with the English teacher as the collaborator in conducting the research. The participants of the research were 20 students of grade tenth Administrasi Perkantoran 1 of SMK Nurul Falah Pekanbaru. The data were taken by using test, observation checklist, field note, and interview. After analyzing the data, it is found that the use of edmodo in writing narrative text activity was able to improve the students’ writing performance. In the other hand, the students were able to generate idea, identify and use various vocabularies, use the appropriate language use and mechanics. The data shows that the students’ score was 80.85. It was improved significantly from the students’ previous daily score, 69. There were several factors that influence the improvement. They are the media, learning activity, and teacher’s ability toward the application usage. Digital application edmodo is an interesting media that can catch the students’ attention so that the students were focus on the use of the media. Learning activity by using edmodo can improve the students’ enthusiasm. They enjoyed learning to write through edmodo with no worry of being mistake. The teachers’ capability of using edmodo motivated and help students to be creative in writing.

Abstract

Based on the preliminary research, it was found that Junior High School Students of IT Al-Birru Pekanbaru’s speaking skill regarding to recount text was very poor. So, the researcher decided to conduct a Classroom Action Research by using Video Subscribe to improve their speaking skill. It can be stated that the research aims at improving the students of Junior High School of IT Al-Birru Pekanbaru’s speaking skill by using Video Subscribe. The respondents of the research were twenty students of grade VIII.1, Junior High School of IT Al-Birru Pekanbaru. This research was done in a cycle with four meetings and a test. For collecting the data, a test, an observation checklist, field notes, and an interview were distributed. After analyzing the data in cycle I, it was found that the students' speaking ability was improved. It was proved by the students’ speaking criteria score; accent was about 60; grammar was about 74; vocabulary was about 79; fluency was about 72; and comprehension was about 78. So, the average score of students’ speaking ability was 72.4. This students’ speaking improvement was influenced by a factor namely interest. In the other hands, this video subscribe was very interesting media so it could foster the students’ participation and confidence during the process of learning activity especially in speaking regarding to recount text. No more students were inactive. They tended to be focus and active in doing communication such as addressing questions and giving comments.

Abstract

This research aimed at describing the difficulties in online learning faced by the students during the first semester of Academic Year 2020/2021. The method of the research was descriptive quantitative by using online questionnaire with four indicators of learning obstacles for collecting the data. The sample of the research was 35 students of English Education Department of Faculty of Education and Teachers’ Training of Universitas Lancang Kuning. After analyzing the data by using descriptive statistics, it is found that the major difficulty is about the students’ physical constraints indicator. The score was about M=3.11 with “moderate” level. Then, non-social environment indicator was about M=2.57 with “moderate” level. The next difficulty was facility. The mean score was about 2.8 with “moderate” level. The next difficulty was from the educator. The mean score was about 2.13 with “moderate” level. The last difficulty was the students’ psychological constraints. The mean score was about 2.07 with “moderate” level. In conclusion, online learning is better implemented in well preparation. It needs all the elements’ readiness such as students, educators, institution, and also the government. It must include the mental and physical readiness. For organizing the online learning, both students and educator should be supported by facility such as qualified laptop or gadget and also fast internet connection. Besides that, lecturer should have qualified competence in organizing the online class so the students motivate in following the class. The last is about the environment. Having well and comfortable environment basically increases the students and lecturer motivation in conducting the online class.

Abstract

Nowadays, ICT has huge potential to facilitate learning now, where online learning is as central media in education. Class activities directly is prohibited by government because spreading pandemic covid 19 in the world. This study aims at finding lecturers’ perceptions in using ICT as teaching and learning. This study used qualitative method. The data collection was done through a survey questionnaires consisting of open ended questions. The result of this research showed that the implementation ICT as learning media is effective. ICT helps teachers to be creative, it helps an easy in preparing the material for teaching. It can be concluded that ICT is very important to support teaching and learning process.

Abstract

Abstract: Language is not only used for daily conversation, but also is used in education, research, and science both written and spoken. There are four basic skills in learning English should be mastered by students such as speaking, listening, reading and writing. To support all of four skills students should master speaking. One of the ways in improving speaking skill is through the Color Vowel Chart use. The aims of this study are divided into two; first, exploring information about the Color Vowel Chart, the techniques/strategies, the ways/procedures, and the assessment used in implementing the Color Vowel Chart in teaching speaking, second, investigating information in terms of students’ speaking achievement. This research is a qualitative study that uses theses, articles/journals and other literature as the main data sources where research that produces information in the form of notes and descriptive data contained in the text under study. The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach with descriptive method. The findings show that the students can increase their speaking skill by using the Color Vowel Chart. This happens because the success of using Color Vowel Chart in teaching speaking in is determined by some factors such as the media, the techniques/strategies, the ways/procedures, and the assessment used in implementing the Color Vowel Chart in teaching speaking. It proves by the results of the previous researchers’ studies. The previous researchers also used the Color Vowel Chart, techniques/strategies, ways/procedures, and the assessment. Fortunately, students can improve their speaking skill by the Color Vowel Chart. Key Words: Color Vowel Chart, Teaching, Speaking

Abstract

A framework called TPACK outlines the knowledge that instructors require in order to incorporate technology into the planning, carrying out, and assessing of learning. TPACK integrates diverse learning tactics, combining appropriate technology with thinking strategies for when, when, and how to employ technology knowledge, pedagogy, and material. Integration of technology in teaching is carried out by teachers at SMA Negeri Olahraga Riau. The aim of this study is to explain the teachers’ perception of TPACK in the teaching process at SMA Negeri Olahraga Riau. The method was descriptive quantitative, a survey research design with a sample of 30 teachers. The entire sampling method is employed. The major tool for gathering data was the questionnaire. The data were obtained by descriptive analysis, using the sum of the scores, the mean, and the standard deviation, and then were descriptively interpreted. The results indicate that most teachers believe their level to be quite high. Measured by averaging the seven TPACK indicators—technological knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, content knowledge, technological pedagogical knowledge, technological content knowledge, and technological pedagogical knowledge—into a single score. The results suggest that teachers have the skills necessary to incorporate the TPACK framework into their lesson plans.
