Abstract

Based on the 2021 Central Statistics Agency (BPS) about environment, there is still a high level of pollution, especially pollution in water. The pollution is dominated by heavy metal contaminants. This research was carried out to make and characterized biosorbents which were activated into activated carbon from banana peel waste called BPAC (Banana Peels Activated Carbon) with HCl activator. Activated carbon has many advantages as an adsorbent with time and cost efficiency in absorbed heavy metals. Activated carbon from banana peels that has been formed was tested for its characterization included tests for water content, ash content, and iodine absorption and compared with SNI standard activated carbon quality with results of 3.9% water content, 6.2% ash content and iodine absorption 563.6 mg/g. The functional groups were tested by FT-IR (Fourier Transform-Infra Red) with the result spectrum at the peak of 3334 cm-1, 2921 cm-1,  2853 cm-1, 1575 cm-1, 1375 cm-1, and 1098 cm-1 which indicated the presence of functional groups such as (C-O); (C=O); (C-H); (O-H) of several compounds such as lignin, pectin, cellulose and galacturonic acid as active sites that can bind heavy metals such as mercury. Surface morphology of activated carbon was tested by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) with 500x and 1000x magnification. Activated carbon that has been tested is then applied to artificial mercury metal waste to determine the adsorption power and effectiveness of the activated carbon. Mercury metal content before adsorption was 6.995 mg/L and after adsorption was 0.0084 mg/L which was measured used ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma – Optical Emission Spectrometry). The percentage effectiveness of BPAC (Banana Peels Activated Carbon) reaches 99.87% with an adsorption capacity of 0.698 mg/g. Based on the results of this percentage it can be said that BPAC is effective to be used as a metal mercury biosorbent.

Abstract

Kata kunci:      Penambangan emas, logam berat, pencemaran AbstractOn this research heavy metal content due to illegal gold mining (PETI) activities in Singingi river, Riau was measured. Heavy metal such as Hg  and Cd were chosen because their are used to bind the gold . This research used survey method with purposive sampling based on the rise location of PETI activities. Sample was measured at 4 point that started from the nearest and up to the furthest of PETI activities. The result of mercury metal measurement was 0,9676 mg/L ; 0,137 mg/L ; 0,0646 mg./L, and 0,0282 mg/L, and the result for cadmium measurement sequentially was 0,00002 mg/L; 0,00004 mg/L ; 0,00003 mg/L and 0,00009 mg/L. If were compared with the quality standard of heavy metal in aquatic, hence the mercury level in Singingi river has considerably higher than the quality standard, around 0,001 mg/L. Cadmium were still allowed with the number of quality standard for lead is 0,03 mg/L and 0,01 mg/L for cadmium. The result of the research are expected to give some information about the risk of heavy metal to the society because the rivers was polluted.  Keywords:  gold mining, heavy metals, pollution

Abstract

This study examines teachers' experiences designing instruction, particularly regarding instructional models and teaching materials used in the classroom. The research stems from issues in the field, namely the lack of updated teaching materials such as e-modules. To address this, the researcher interviewed teachers, exploring their teaching experiences and their design and use of teaching materials. The study was conducted at SMA Negeri 2 Siak Hulu in December 2024. Data collection techniques included questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaire data were analyzed using a Likert scale, while interview data were analyzed descriptively. This research employed a mixed-methods design, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches, specifically using a Sequential Explanatory model and an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach. The results showed that the questionnaire-based observation sheet indicated a teaching material needs score of 78.2% (high need). Interview findings revealed that teachers' experiences applying the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model were well-structured and systematic. Moreover, the instructional model was integrated with a Scientific Approach that aligned with the students' characteristics, enhancing learning engagement and improving understanding of science literacy. Teachers perceived that the development of e-modules would greatly support both school-based and independent learning processes.
