Abstract

Infectious diseases can be caused by one of four different organisms, namely: bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites. This study aims to determine the ability and concentration of the best ethanol extract of red fruit seeds (Pandanus conoideus Lamk.) In inhibiting the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus infectious bacteria. This research is an experimental study using a completely randomized design (CRD). The stages of work carried out consisted of: sample preparation, sample extraction, solution concentration preparation, and inhibition testing. The research work procedure began with the process of preparing a sample of red fruit seeds into powder. The maceration method was used for extraction using 96% ethanol with a ratio of 1: 3. The concentration of the extract was made by mixing the macerated extract with aquadest solvent. The concentration variations made were: 0.31%, 0.63%, 1.25%, and 2.50%. Inhibition testing against bacteria was carried out using the Kirby-Bauer method. The data obtained were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results showed that the ethanol extract of red fruit seeds had bioactive compounds that could inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The bioactive compounds consist of phenols, flavonoids, steroids, terpenoids, alkaloids, and tannins. The average diameter (mm) of the inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria was greater than the average diameter (mm) of the inhibition zone in Escherichia coli bacteria due to differences in the structure of their cell walls. The increase in the concentration of the solution is directly proportional to the diameter of the formed zone of inhibition. The higher the concentration given, the larger the diameter of the inhibition zone is seen. Duncan test analysis showed that 2.5% ethanol extract concentration was the best concentration in inhibiting bacterial growth.

Abstract

Areca nut (Areca catechu L) is traditionally used to treat wounds and bleeding, urinary tract infections, leg pain, and worms. Modern research studies, the areca nut has a pharmacological effect as an antifungal. This study aims to determine the ability of the ethanol extract of areca nut to the growth of the fungus Candida albicans. This research is experimental research. The steps are taken in this study, firstly, the peeled areca nut seeds were dried in the sun for 7-10 days. After drying, crushed into powder. Furthermore, the phytochemical extraction process uses the maceration method using ethanol. Extracts were obtained using a rotary vacuum evaporator. The extracts obtained were made in series with concentrations of 20, 40, 60, and 80 g/ml. Each concentration series was tested for antifungal inhibition using the Kirby Bauer method. The clear zone formed was measured using a calliper. The data were analyzed using non-parametric Kruskal Wallis statistics and Mann-Whitney U test. The results of the inhibitory test of areca nut ethanol extract showed descriptively that the ethanol extract had the inhibitory ability against the fungus C. albicans. Statistical analysis of all concentration levels gave a significant effect in inhibiting fungal growth. Further tests showed that the concentrations of 20 g/ml and 80 g/ml as well as 60 g/ml and 80 g/ml had a significance value of <0.05, which means that there were different effects in inhibiting the growth of the fungus C. albicans. This study concludes that the ethanol extract of areca nut seeds can inhibit the growth of the fungus C. albicans.

Abstract

Papua Province is one of the regions with the highest tuberculosis cases in Indonesia. Especially in the Dosay Health Center's working area, in 2017 found 34 cases, 24 cases in 2018, and 32 cases in 2019. This study aimed to determine the number of cases of TB at the Dosay Public Health Center in 2017-2019, based on gender, age, location of TB anatomy, and place of residence. This study is a quantitative descriptive study. The data source was collected from the Tb case examination's medical record and then analyzed with a descriptive statistic. The results showed that in 2017 and 2018, TB patients tended to be more dominated by women, namely (59.3%) and (70.8%), respectively. While in 2019, the number of men with TB was (61.7%). The highest number of TB sufferers in 2017 was in the age group 25-34 years, namely (37.5%). Meanwhile, the 0-14-year age group was the highest in 2018 and 2019, namely (33.3%) and (47%). The number of pulmonary tuberculosis cases in 2017-2019 was higher than extrapulmonary tuberculosis. TB cases in 2017 were found mostly in Waibron Village and Maribu Village, namely (31.2%) and (28.8%). In 2018 Maribu Village had the highest, followed by Waibron Village, respectively (41.6%) and (29.1%). As for 2019, the most TB patients were found in Sabron Yaru Village with (32.3%). In conclusion, in 2017 and 2018, there were more female TB cases. While in 2019, the highest TB cases were in men. TB cases in 2017-2019 are mostly found in the age group <15 years. The anatomical location most commonly attacked by TB is the lungs. The areas with relatively high TB cases were Waibron, Maribu, and Sabron Yaru Village.

Abstract

Virus corona telah menyebar di semua provinsi di Indonesia. Papua merupakan salah satu Provinsi terdampak virus corona, berdasarkan data penyebaran, Papua termasuk wilayah yang memiliki jumlah kasus COVID-19 yang terus meningkat. Metode penyuluhan COVID-19 dilakukan secara verbal dari rumah ke rumah. Proses edukasi disempurnakan dengan pemasangan brosur. Brosur berisi himbauan protokol kesehatan. Kegiatan Pengabmas disertai pembagian masker, susu, sabun dan tempat cuci tangan. Respon masyrakat dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif. Masyarakat sangat mengapresiasi program kegiatan yang dilakukan. Program kegiatan Pengabmas membantu masyarakat mendapatkan informasi tambahan tentang upaya-upaya pencegahan COVID-19.

Abstract

Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae that attacks the skin, peripheral nerves, mucosa of respiratory tract and eyes. The aim was to determine the characteristics of leprosy disease of Health Center Abepantai in 2020, based on the type of leprosy, staining of Ziehl Neelsen (ZN), age, sex and occupation. This method is a descriptive study with cross sectional design. The results, MB type highest percentage which is 8 (67%), the positive ZN staining which is 4 (33%) and negative which is 8 (67%), the age the highest percentage 16-30 level years which is 5 (42%), sex the highest percentage male sex which is 8 (67%), occupation the highest farmer which is 5 (42% ). The conclusion characteristics of leprosy Health Center in Abepantai 2020: leprosy the highest percentage which is MB type, age the highest percentage which is 16-30 years old, the highest percentage which is male sex and the highest percentage occupation which is farmer.

Abstract

Covid-19 is a disease caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus. data as of July 27, Covid 19 sufferers in Papua reached 2130 cases. The research objective was to determine the pattern of the spread of Covid 19 infection in Papua Province in 2020. The descriptive research method was cross-sectional design, using secondary data obtained from the Covid 19 Task Force Team of the Papua Provincial Health Office. The results showed the increase in May as many as 533 cases. The highest number of people with Covid-19 based on age is 20-60 years old. Based on sex, the highest percentage is male, this is due to the natural immune response and the immune response acquired during viral infection between women and men. Based on the evidence that shows that Covid 19 infection attacks many non-Papuan tribes compared to Papuans. The incidence of Covid 19 cases of ethnicity related to socio-economic, cultural, genetic factors, vulnerability to susceptibility or response to infection. The number of cases recovered against Covid 19 for the period March 22 to July 22 2020 the number of cases was 1956, while the number of cases died was 23 people. The cure rate is the result of many factors, which indicate the patient's physiological ability to attack Coronavirus. Conclusion; The highest number of males in May was 533 people, the age range of sufferers was 20 - 60 years, more men than women, less ethnic Papuans than non-Papuan ethnics, 27 July the number of people who recovered in 1956 while 23 people died.

Abstract

Chlorine is a chemical that functions as water disinfection, often used in swimming pools to kill microorganisms such as pathogenic bacteria in the water. The general objective of this study was to determine the relationship between chlorine levels, and microbiological quality in swimming pool water in Jayapura City. This type of research is descriptive research with a cross-sectional design. Determination of residual chlorine content, and microbiological quality in this study was carried out using Spectrophotometry, and MPN Test methods. The results showed that the chlorine content of the swimming pool Wa 5.00 mg/l, Fu 0.23 mg/l, and Aj 0.13 mg/l. The examination of the coliform bacteria population showed that the MPN value in Wa coliform swimming pool water was 0/100 ml, and coliform stools were 0/100 ml. Swimming pool Fu coliform as much as 91/100 ml, and fecal coliform as much as  23 /100 ml. Swimming pool Aj coliform as much as >1100/100 ml, and fecal coliform as 20/100 ml. This study concludes that the chlorine levels in the Wa swimming pools, and the MPN swimming pools of Fu, and Aj are not under the Minister of Health Regulation No. 32 years 2017. Abstract

Sebagian kader malaria di Distrik Sentani Timur kurang memiliki motivasi dalam menjalankan peran mereka. Hal ini terlihat dari hasil observasi kami, beberapa kader hanya mampu menggunakan satu merk pemeriksaan RDT. Oleh karena itu, edukasi kader dalam bentuk penyuluhan, pelatihan, dan pendampingan dilakukan untuk meningkatkan peran kader. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini menggunakan metode ceramah, diskusi, dan demonstrasi. Kegiatan penyuluhan dimaksudkan untuk meningkatkan dan menguatkan pengetahuan kader tentang malaria. Dengan pengetahuan yang memadai, diharapkan kader dapat menjalankan peran mereka dengan lebih baik, sehingga dapat meningkatkan cakupan penemuan dan penanganan kasus malaria. Pelatihan dimaksudkan agar para kader malaria memiliki keterampilan melakukan pemeriksaan menggunakan metode Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT). Pendampingan dimaksudkan untuk melatih kader untuk memiliki mental melakukan edukasi terhadap masyarakat. Hasil pengabdian kepada kader menunjukkan terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan setelah diberikan penyuluhan mengenai informasi yang berkaitan tentang penyakit malaria dengan capaian post-test 100% baik, pemeriksaan RDT dengan capaian post-test 83% baik. Hasil pendampingan sekaligus mengevealuasi kader malaria dalam menjalankan tugasnya menunjukan secara umum para kader sudah dapat menjelaskan tujuan pemeriksaan RDT, prinsip kerja RDT, keterbatasan pemeriksaan RDT, langkah-langkah pemeriksaan RDT, melakukan pemeriksaan, membaca hasil, dan menerapkan etika dan komunikasi efektif pada pasien. Kesimpulan kegiatan ini adalah Pelatihan dan penyuluhan kader malaria di Distrik Sentani Timur Kabupaten Jayapura berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan kader dalam bidang malaria, termasuk pemeriksaan RDT.

Abstract

Areca nut (Areca catechu Linn) is a plant that is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. People have used it to treat various health problems. This study aims to determine the ability of betel nut ethanol extract to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. The research method is experimental. Stages of research, first the betel nut is dried by aerating for 7-10 days. After drying, the seeds are ground into powder. The extraction stage of the active compounds uses the maceration method using 92% ethanol, evaporation is carried out using a rotary vacuum evaporator. The results of the maceration extract were carried out with phytochemical tests and bacterial inhibitory tests against E. coli, and S. aureus, carried out by the Kirby Bauer method. The detected metabolites were flavonoids, tannins and terpenoids. These metabolites have the ability as antimicrobials. The results of the inhibition test of the ethanol extract of areca nut seeds showed descriptively that the ethanol extract had a better inhibitory ability against S. aureus bacteria, compared to E. coli. The conclusion of this study is that the ethanol extract of areca nut seeds can inhibit the growth of E.coli and S.aureus.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Infeksi silang dari pasien ke pasien atau dari petugas rumah sakit ke pasien merupakan bahaya konstan. Ini adalah salah satu penyebab terpenting morbiditas dan mortalitas terutama di ruangIntensive Care Unit (ICU) di seluruh dunia. Tujuan:penelitian ini untuk mengamati angka kuman di ruang ICU Rumah Sakit RSUD Abepura dan Dian Harapan. Metode: penelitian ini adalah penelitiananalitik metode observasi laboratorium untuk mengetahui jumlah angka kuman di ruang ICU RSUD Abepura dan RS Dian Harapan Kota Jayapura. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah total populasi yaitu di RS Abepura dan RS Dian Harapan, sebanyak 1 ruangan dengan titik pengambilan sebanyak 5 titik pengambilan pada pagi hari dan sianghari. Tahapan penelitian ini di mulai dengan meletakan cawan petri yang berisi media PCA dan menghitung jumlah total angka kuman diruang ICU Rumah Sakit Abepura dan RS Dian Harapan. Hasil Penelitian: di RS Abepura jumlah indeks angka kuman pada ruang ICU pada pagi hari sebesar 40,4 CFU/M³, dan pada siang hari sebesar 34,8 CFU/M³. Sedangkan hasil penelitian di RS Dian Harapan pada ruang ICU pada pagi hari sebesar 41,4 CFU/M³, dan pada siang hari sebesar 77 CFU/M3. Kesimpulan: ruang ICU di RSUD Abepura dan RS Dian Harapan masih memenuhi syarat sesuai dengan baku mutu Permenkes no. 7 tahun 2019.
