Abstract

Learning is not only memorizing and not remembering, but learning is a process characterized by changes in students. Changes because of the learning process can be demonstrated in various forms, such as changes in knowledge, attitudes, skills, skills, abilities, reaction power and receptivity. So, learning is an active process, a process of reacting to all the situations that exist in the learner. Learning is a process that is directed towards a goal, the process of doing through the situation that exists in the learner. Frandsen said that what drives a person to learn is partly due to curiosity, creative nature, and the desire to correct past failures (Darsono, 2001). Based on humanistic learning theory the purpose of learning is to humanize a human being. Learning activities are considered successful if the learner understands his environment and himself. The student in the learning process must strive so that he is slowly able to achieve self-actualization well. Humanistic learning theory seeks to understand learning behaviour from the point of view of the learner (student), not from the one who provides learning (the teacher). The task of the teacher is only to help the student in the process of self-development, to better recognize himself as a human being, to actualize all the potential that exists in him. The presentation above shows how important it is to describe and study humanistic learning theory and its implications in learning during educational failures in Indonesia which are more concerned and only make cognitive aspects the biggest reference in measuring the quality of education. This paper tries to explain humanistic learning theory, its application, and implications in learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of students' ability to understand mathematical concepts through the application of the Modification-, Action, Process, Object, and Schema (M-APOS) learning model. The type of research conducted is quantitative research with a quasi-experimental method. This research uses a research design of The Randomized Pre-test Post-test Control Group Design. The population in this study was all class VIII at MTsN 2 Kerinci in the 2018/2019 school year. Through random sampling, it was obtained that class VIII C as the control group to be taught conventionally and class VIII A as the experimental group to which M-APOS learning would be applied, these two classes consisted of 26 students. The results of this study indicate that the hypothesis test I proved that the Modification – action, process, object, and schema (M-APOS) learning model can improve students' ability to understand mathematical concepts in relation and function material for class VIII MTsN 2 Kerinci. While the results of the hypothesis test II obtained the ability to understand students' mathematical concepts with the application of the learning model (M-APOS) is better than the ability to understand students' mathematical concepts with conventional learning. In the data analysis technique, the researcher continued the analysis by looking at the answers to the questions that were distributed to the Google form. The result of this research showed that most of the lecturers understand the concept of “creativity” quite well. The findings of this result showed that several lecturers respond this question about the notion of “creativity” based on their own experiences and elaborate some teaching techniques, various media, and some gadget application to refresh students’ interest on the subject. The conclusion of this research was the way of teacher’s creativity in online learning activities to foster literacy for students like firstly know about the notion of creative to foster students’ literacy given by the respondent as a teacher, the way of creating creativity in online learning activities to foster literacy for students.

Abstract

In the digital era, the integration of technology in education is becoming increasingly crucial to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. One prominent tool in the context of Mandarin language instruction is Wordwall, a game-based learning platform that offers various interactive activities. This article aims to elucidate and evaluate the benefits of using Wordwall in the context of Mandarin language teaching and learning. The research conducted is of a descriptive nature. The respondents for this study were 52 students at Padang State University enrolled in Mandarin language courses. The subjects of this research consisted of 52 UNP study program students (45 women and 7 men) aged between 19 and 20 years who were selected using the random sampling technique.Data collection utilized a questionnaire through Google Forms and assessments of quizzes on the Wordwall game. The research data were analyzed qualitative by conducting validity tests, reliability tests, and classical assumption tests. The research findings conclude that learning with Wordwall makes the learning process easy, enjoyable, and assists students in understanding Mandarin. Furthermore, the implications of this research suggest that learning through the application of play techniques using the Wordwall game is highly suitable for beginner Mandarin language learners.

Abstract

In a world where bilingualism is prevalent, people often naturally use code-mixing and code-switching as expressive tools in their language activities. This research aims to analyze the types of code-mixing and code-switching, the reasons for their use, and the matrix language in the interview between Maudy Ayunda and Robert on Perspektif Metro TV. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data obtained from the conversation between Maudy Ayunda and Robert. Using a qualitative approach and non-invasive observation techniques, the data were analyzed based on Hoffman's theory of code-mixing and code-switching. The results indicate that the speakers employed three types of code-mixing (intra-sentential, intra-lexical, and changes in pronunciation) and two types of code-switching (inter-sentential and establishing continuity with the previous speaker). The motivations for using these codes included discussing specific topics, quoting someone, emphasizing points, repeating for clarification, and explaining content to the interlocutor. Code-mixing was used more frequently than code-switching. In conclusion, Indonesian served as the matrix language and English as the embedded language in the instances of code-mixing and code-switching observed. The findings have significant implications for the education field, particularly in multilingual and bilingual settings. Recognizing and integrating code-mixing and code-switching as legitimate and beneficial linguistic practices can enhance language learning by creating an inclusive environment where students feel comfortable using multiple languages. Educators can leverage these practices to improve engagement, comprehension, and expression in complex subjects, fostering a deeper understanding and better communication skills among students. Future research should investigate these phenomena across diverse contexts and larger samples to further validate and extend these findings, thereby enriching bilingual education strategies.
