Abstract

Tubumela Village, Tilango District, is one of the villages located within the Gorontalo Regency Government. The village is located near the coast of Lake Limboto and the rice fields that serve as a dumping ground for waste from downstream. This waste poses a serious threat to the community living in the lake area because many people depend on the lake for their livelihoods. The training program on utilizing plastic waste to create economically valuable handicrafts is a science and technology application program that can provide solutions to the main problems faced by the community. The main problem is the still low level of processing plastic waste into an economically valuable product. This training aims for the community to understand and apply the process of utilizing plastic waste to create economically valuable decorative wall hangings and flower vases. The product is expected to be sold, thereby increasing community productivity and financial independence, and reducing the burden on landfills in accommodating plastic waste. With this training, it is hoped that it can increase the knowledge and skills of the people of Tabumela Village, Tilango District, in terms of managing and utilizing plastic waste, and enable them to create products from used plastic detergent packaging, bottled water, and plastic bags that have economic value. Other tendencies of the community, such as still throwing garbage in the wrong places, some even throwing garbage in ditches, burning garbage not in designated areas thus polluting the air, and improper waste management, meaning they are unfamiliar with waste types and waste separation rules, are also addressed. Therefore, the objectives of the thematic KKN service implementation in Phase II of 2025 are: (1) to conduct training and mentoring in environmental conservation, (2) to revive local wisdom culture by establishing a Gorontalo cultural studio, (3) to revive traditional cultures that are beginning to disappear, and (4) to conduct training and mentoring in natural resource management.

Abstract

Talumelito Village in Telaga Biru District, Gorontalo Regency, is a strategic village that has been designated as a Cultural Conservation Village. This village has great potential in the fields of culture, agriculture, and the creative economy. However, the community, particularly indigenous women, still faces challenges in processing corn crop yields into the traditional cake, kokole, to create value-added products, low digital literacy, and limited access to entrepreneurship and cultural preservation training. The lack of active business institutions and cultural studios also hinders the maximum development of local potential. This service program is designed as part of the Thematic Community Service Program of Gorontalo State University 2025 to empower indigenous women thru the development of creative businesses based on local wisdom and the utilization of digital technology. The activities aim to provide training in production and business management, cultural preservation, digital literacy, and health and environmental education. This program aligns with the MBKM policy and supports the achievement of university Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). With a participatory and collaborative approach, it is hoped that this program will be able to create a community of independent, tech-literate women who are actively involved in the sustainable preservation of local culture. Strengthening the role of women means creating a supportive environment where they can actively participate in cultural preservation. This includes providing access to education and training, as well as promoting gender equality in community participation.

Abstract

Waste processing in Bulota Village, Talaga Jaya District is very necessary considering the limited infrastructure and waste processing facilities in the surrounding area, which are unable to contain existing waste processing. This demonstrates the paucity of garbage processing facilities and residents' lack of waste sorting knowledge (organic and inorganic). The impact is that a lot of paper and plastic waste accumulates into useless waste. One of the waste management models is the 3R system, namely Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. This results in changes in the environmental balance that are detrimental to the community. The results of observations carried out by the service team from the State University of Gorontalo in the field show that most of the total The head of the family and surrounding villagers in Bulota Village have not been able to separate waste (organic and inorganic) due to limited public knowledge and level of understanding of waste accumulation.
