Abstract

Abstract

Students' civic disposition remains a challenge in Civics Education learning, particularly related to the implementation of contextual learning strategies which align with local culture. This study aimed to describe the process of integrating local cultural values into Civics Education subject and analyzed its impact on strengthening students' civic disposition. Using a mixed methods approach, quantitative methods were applied to measure the impact, while qualitative methods were used to explore the learning process. Value integration was carried out through individual portfolio assignments and group assignments analyzing character values in traditional games. The integrated character values included patriotism, law-abidingness, peace-loving, democratic, and creativity. The results showed that in the first class, there was an insignificant increase in civic disposition, while in the second class, there was a significant increase. These findings demonstrated that the integration of local cultural values can be effectively implemented in Civics Education learning, thus not only strengthening students' civic disposition but also fostering cultural awareness and strengthening national identity. This strategy has the potential to be an innovative alternative in developing Civics Education learning which is relevant to the Indonesian social and cultural context.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This research aims to develop and test the VARK learning style instrument in Citizenship Education Learning using SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) to produce a valid, reliable and goodness of fit instrument for more accurate measurement of learning styles. Methodology: This study employs quantitative methods to evaluate the VARK learning styles theory in citizenship education through three primary phases: (1) assessing interrater validity to verify the construct's feasibility, (2) establishing empirical validity via Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to examine the construct's effectiveness and reliability, and (3) utilizing Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) along with goodness-of-fit (GOF) analysis to determine the model's overall suitability. Main Findings: The findings of this research indicate that the VARK learning styles framework and related instruments in citizenship education are very suitable for measurement. The model meets the main criteria: (1) Inter-rater Validity Test confirms its validity, (2) Construct Validity Test using Confirmatory Factor Analysis shows validity and reliability, and (3) Goodness-of-Fit Test places the model in the acceptable fit category. So this instrument can be used to measure learning styles accurately. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this research lies in the development and instrument of VARK learning styles in Citizenship Education learning which was tested using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to produce a feasible and accurate instrument for measuring learning styles.

Abstract

This study examines the role of civic spirituality in strengthening socio-cultural values to support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation in education. Using a qualitative field study approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and documentation of learning activities. Findings indicate that civic spiritual values integrated into learning activities and school culture effectively strengthen socio-cultural values including mutual cooperation, tolerance, discipline, and responsibility. This integration is realized through habituation activities, subject integration, and cultural practices supporting character formation. Civic spirituality also enhances student awareness of diversity, social responsibility, and global citizenship, aligning with SDGs principles of quality and inclusive education. Success factors include active teacher involvement, a conducive school environment, and relevant local cultural support. The study recommends systematic integration of civic spirituality into curricula and educational practices to advance SDGs achievement, positioning it as a strategic approach beyond cognitive learning toward sustainable character development.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of students' attitude aspects after taking part in project-based Citizenship Education courses. Citizenship education aims to form good citizens and have the skills of ideal young citizens. As a form of improving the skills of young citizens with education in a formal environment, it has a greater impact on the internalization of values. This study uses a quasi-experimental research type (quasi-experimental design). This study uses a quasi-experimental design without a control or comparison class. The experimental design used is one group pre-test-post-test. The results of the study show that project-based learning can improve attitudes towards academic integrity values. These values are in the form of honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and humility. Students' responses to project-based learning are easy and they really like the learning that is carried out. However, the improvement in attitudes towards academic integrity values has not been maximized in all indicators, especially in the values of honesty and respect. In order to be able to increase all values to the maximum, a more comprehensive project learning evaluation is needed.
