Abstract

This research deals with classroom action research which is mainly aimedtoimprovethe students speaking achievement through implementing drilling technique assisted by media flashcard,itwas conductedatVII-3 grade classintocycles activities. The data were classified into quantitative data and qualitative datainwhich collected through observation sheet, interview, diary note, speaking test.The criteria of ability was 70 which based on minimum ability criterion (KKM) of SMP Swasta Bandung. Basedonthe speaking test the mean score ofpre-testwas28.3,infirstcycletestthemeanofscorewas 66.6 and the second cycle test the mean of score was 83. The improvement also can be seen from the percentage of the students speaking achievement, in pre-test was 0% students can get point more than 70. In first cycle test was 53.4% students get point more than 70. In second cycle test 100% students got point more than 70, it means that teaching by using drilling technique can help students to improve them in speaking achievement. This technique also make the students feel enjoy, comfortable, and more creative to create the ideas without worrying make mistakes through media flashcard.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to speak English in students in Medan. In this study, research data collection techniques used observation, interviews and documentation methods. The data sources for this study were students at SMA Negeri 6 Medan in class XI MIA2. By applying the Student Team Achievement Division learning model and using dialogue media. the research instrument is test, observation sheet, interview (Classroom Acton Research) . This study uses a qualitative and quantitative design. The research data analysis technique uses three steps, namely 1. Data reduction, 2. Data presentation, 3. Making conclusions. Findings from data analysis, Before applying the Studnet Team Achievement Division (STAD) learning model, there were 30 students (96%) who did not complete with a score of 44.46-66.67. and 6 (4%) students 78.78 - 88.89 completed with grades. And after applying the Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) learning model, in the first cycle there were 35 students (99%) who scored 78.78. 88.89 this value has exceeded the KKM score of 75% and 1 student (1%) did not complete. There was an increase of 26.15. The conclusion is that the application of the Student Team Achievement Division learning model is very effective in improving students' speaking skills.

Abstract

There are numerous sorts utterance in drama, one of the sort is soliloquy. Soliloquy is a speech uttered by a character that aims to express feelings or expressions, even messages from a story, in a way that no one knows what he said except the reader or audience. This research were focused on analyzing soliloquy in the novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. The purposes of this research were to find the soliloquy in the novel Crime and Punishment, also, to describe the causes of soliloquy were used in the novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. The researcher applied a descriptive qualitative method. The data was acquired from the novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. The researcher used some theories in research method. Based on the analysis of soliloquy in the novel Crime and Punishment. there were 47 soliloquy that found in the novel Crime and Punishment. The type of soliloquy that found in the novel Crime and Punishment is plain soliloquy. Besides, there two causes that soliloquy were used in the novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, to wit, the reason of the genre, and the reason of the expression feelings. In spite of, a lot of factors that can be the reason of soliloquy were used in the novel, researcher found the strong reason to fyodor to used the soliloquy frequently.

Abstract

This study entitled “Analysis the Effect of Polysemy on the Speech Learning from Covid-19 by Nadiem Makarim to Elementary School Student”. The objectives of this study were (1) to identify the types of polysemy, (2) to investigate polysemy elements used in the speech, and (3) to identify the effect of polysemy were used on the speech to elementary students. The descriptive qualitative is applied in this study. The data were obtained from the speech by Nadiem makarim using documentation method. Afterward, analysis of this study use data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing and verification. The findings of the research show that there are 65 data of polysemy’s words which find in Learning from Covid-19 speech. Based on the types of polysemy, most of Irregular Polysemy were 38 words (58.5%) and followed by Regular Polysemy with 27 words (41.5%). The effect of polysemy on the speech to the elementary student has not been widely applied to elementary school students. Inasmuch as, the student has limited complex reasoning to a word that has another meaning and is critical. In a sentence, polysemy plays an important role and has the function to distinguish the meaning of a word meaning.

Abstract

This community services aimed to provide the training of teaching early childhood for teachers in using English based on a scientific approach in Medan. The method used is based on an analysis of the needs of English-speaking teachers in the city of Medan. This training carried out in three stages, namely preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The result of this training is to train teachers' teaching skills using educative learning tools in schools by practicing English vocabulary which is easier based on a scientific approach, namely observing, asking questions, gathering information, reasoning, and communicating. And enthusiastic teachers for  teaching using beginner’s English can provide new vocabularies and improve language development to children.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out students' perceptions of synchronous and asynchronous learning modes. This research was conducted at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatra Utara. This study used a qualitative descriptive method and used random sampling. The subjects of this study were 50 students filling out the questionnaire and 8 students being interviewed. From the results of the study, it can be seen that as many as 72% of students are satisfied with the synchronous learning mode, and as many as 66% of students are satisfied with the asynchronous learning mode. It can be seen that more students like synchronous learning mode than asynchronous learning mode by online learning using whatssapp, google classroom, and zoom application.

Abstract

This research is entitled Analysis the Increase Learning Outcomes in Poets Subject Through CTL Approach to Grade III of State Elementary School 060807 Medan. The reason for this research is to improve the learning outcomes and learning exercises of grade III of State Elementary School 060807 Medan in learning to write poetry. This study utilized classroom research activities conducted in two cycles with student research subjects as the research method. Research information collection methods in the form of test and non-test procedure methods. At that point, the analysis in this consider used the quantitative method. The results of this study show an increase in student learning results. In the preaction test, the average value was 59.57, while in cycle I the normal value was 72.50. In this way the increment in the normal value of writing poetry from the preaction to cycle I was 12.75 points. In cycle II the normal score came to 81, an increase of 8.5 points from cycle I and 21.25 points from the preaction test. Based on the research comes about, teachers are advised to apply the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach since it is demonstrated to progress student learning results.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine students' perceptions toward using zoom as a learning medium during online EFL (English as a foreign Language) learning. This research also uses a qualitative descriptive method. Data sources were obtained from 50 of 8th-semester students by distributing questionnaires, and ten randomly selected students for interviews. The results of the questionnaire obtained were processed using quantitative and interviews by entering interview transcripts. The results of this study indicate that students have positive perceptions and attitudes about using zoom as a learning medium during online EFL learning. Students who consider zoom, a video conferencing technology that assists students with online learning and does not restrict discussion in English, can also utilize zoom to improve and enhance their English. Zoom allows us to have a virtual classroom and it is the ideal choice for learning, discussing, and attending meetings and webinars since its functions allow students to communicate with both the instructor and their peers at the same time, anywhere as learning media.

Abstract

This study aims to determine The Impact of Using Audio-Visual Media on the English Learning Results of Grade VII of Sabilina Junior High School, Deli Serdang. This research is exploratory research in the form of a quasi-experimental design type non-equivalent control group design that employs a test group and a control group. The experimental group was treated using audio-visual media, while the control group using normal lecture method and printed book media. Information collection methods utilized English learning results tests and perception sheets. The information examination procedure employs the t-test to test the impact of utilizing audio-visual media on student learning results. The results show that the calculation of the normal post-test value of the test group is 82.25 which is higher than the normal control group which is 68.25. The results of the information examination appeared that the tcount 3,701 ttabel 1,729. This could be translated that learning uses audio-visual media has higher learning results compared to learning that does not utilize audio-visual media. To conclude, it appears that the use of sound media influences students' English learning results. After all, teachers ought to disseminate the utilization of audio-visual media in learning English to improve student learning results.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the significant increase of using Sketchnoting Based PJBL on Students’ writing skills Achievement in Narrative Text, especially in writing for narrative text. This research was conducted during the academic year 2023/2024 at SMP NEGERI 43 MEDAN. This quantitative research was conducted using an experimental research design. The subjects of the study were 60 eight-grades students from SMP NEGERI 43 MEDAN who were selected using a total sampling method and then divided into two groups. Class VIII-A 1 consists of 30 students as the Experimental Group and is taught using the Sketchnoting based PJBL Method, while Class VIII-B consists of 30 students as the Control Group and is taught using the Teacher Centered Learning Method. The data were acquired using a pre-test and a post-test, and then analyzed using the t-test formula in the SPSS version 22 program. The outcome indicated that the significance level was 0.001<0.05, and the difference between the post-test mean scores of the control and experimental groups was 75.33 and 88.07. According to the results of the analysis, the Ha (alternative hypothesis)was accepted, while the null hypothesis was rejected. The findings of this study indicate that the Sketchnoting based PJBL Method is more effective than the Teacher Centered Learning in writing skills achievement narrative text at SMP NEGERI 43 MEDAN, where the Sketchnoting based PJBLwas implemented.
