Abstract

The Discourse Analysis of Teun A. Van Dijk tries to examine the gender mandate of the heads of political parties led by women in showing the representation of women in fighting for gender. Speech text is basically not just a string of words that is only linguistic, but social. Van Dijk's model is divided into three levels: a) macro structure, b) superstructure, and c) micro structure, which is used to analyze discourse critically. The data source uses You Tube through the text of political party speeches. Qualitative research methodology used to examine messages as gender mandates in speechwomen-led politics. Based on the research on political speeches, it can be concluded: There is a significant difference in the thematic structure between MSP and GN, the dominant theme of MSP's political speech is about the political, economic, and historical role of the party, and cadres are considered as party officials. The thematics of GN's speech criticized social realities, the struggle for gender, emancipation, women's wages, and polygamy. The micro structure in the schematic is compiled and assembled on economic studies, state politics, and political messages, commemorating the Asia-Africa Conference, while GN's speech emphasized women such as: Emancipation of gender equality, feelings of party leaders or the mission of the Party which are both attached to one. Stylistics in the choice of diction are used as expressions that have the power to inspire those who hear, using a stylistic style for PDI-P cadres, of course, it can be lively. Meanwhile, the diction used to highlight the stylistics used by GN is more about gender messages and mandates that attract millennials. The use of rhetorical language style in the micro structure was used by the two political party leaders as the party's mandate and mission.

Abstract

This study looks at how well role-playing exercises improve English proficiency among Thai primary pupils, with an eye toward speaking abilities, self-confidence, and attitudes about English. Data were gathered by means of speaking tests both before and after running role-playing activities using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach. Students' speaking skills showed a notable improvement; the average proficiency score rose from 57.5 in Cycle 1 to 68.13 in Cycle 2. Furthermore, the proportion of students reaching the minimal speaking score of 65 changed from 50% in Cycle 1 to 81.25% in Cycle 2. These findings underline the need for using interactive teaching strategies, including role-playing, to close the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, thereby improving English communication abilities among students.

Abstract

This research investigates category shifts in the Indonesian translation of Paulo Coelho's novel "The Alchemist." The study addresses translation inadequacies that potentially affect reader comprehension and examines the strategic implementation of category shifts. Research objectives include identifying types of category shifts, determining their distributional frequency, and analyzing the predominance of specific shift types. The study employs descriptive qualitative methodology with document analysis techniques, examining data from the initial and final twenty pages of the novel. The analysis identifies four category shift types with the following distribution: unit shift (40%), structure shift (31%), class shift (19%), and intra-system shift (10%). These findings contradict Catford's (1965) theoretical assertion that structure shifts predominate in translation processes. The prevalence of unit shift reflects fundamental lexical disparities between English and Indonesian linguistic systems, where semantic equivalence frequently necessitates morphological expansion or reduction. Translators demonstrate a preference for unit shifts due to their capacity to preserve naturalness in the target language without extensive syntactic restructuring. This phenomenon suggests that lexical considerations supersede grammatical constraints in translation decisions between typologically distinct languages. The dominance of unit shift indicates translational prioritization of communicative effectiveness through pragmatic lexical adjustments rather than strict structural correspondence.
