Abstract

This study aims to explain the meaning of idioms using stomach as part of the body represent a particular purpose, and together produce meanings related to emotions. Balinese Language (BL) has several idioms based on the word basang ‘stomach’. The data source is oral speech from daily conversation, Observation and note taking technique were applied in this study to collect data. The collected data was analyzed through semantic views resulting that Balinese language Idioms is a tangible manifestation of the close relationship between language and culture.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Japan has a lot of loanwords, not only from China but also from English or other countries to enrich their language. The word harassment compounded with other words or phrases form new meaning refers to the feeling of uncomfortable or unconvenient of something. The word harassment coumpounded in Japanese seems to have trivilisation in meaning, this phenomenon related to high sensitivity and strict value in Japanese society.Keyword: loanword, Japanese, harassment

Abstract

abstractTraditional Japanese society was a patrilineal society that had attitudes for men to preserve the family as a successor.  The eldest son is always expected to be responsible for ancestor worship, wisely manage family inheritance to maintain the sustainability of the family. This system, Ie system, is a system that regulates all of the family members. Not only regarding how to behave toward family members but also the rules to choose the head of the family who will rule the whole of the family.

Abstract

Yama kotoba as a language which is the identity of the Matagi has the function of language as language functions presented by Halliday and Hasan (1985:17). Yama kotoba has three main functions of language that is informative functions that provide information about things that matagi belief, weather and natural conditions where the Matagi hunting and hunting system that is used by Matagi along with the hunting group. Interactive functions of yama kotoba are about taboo things that should not be done at all because it can lead to bad things against Matagi themselves and the group. Interactive functions in social control also refers to the interactive functions to support the environment, as yama kotoba delivered on the function of social control or command lists to ban some things taboo. The taboo things that can help Matagi maintain balance and preservation of nature in the mountains. Then, yama kotoba’s Imaginative Function consist of ritual and poetic function.

Abstract

Japanese has many compound words which are used productively in daily life. Compounding words is done in various ways in accordance with the morphological processes required. Compounding basic words discussed in this article begins with the reduplication process of basic words and continues with the process of affixation by adding the suffix -shii on the reduplication results. The data is collected from articles on social media and related references. The discussion shows that some of the words experiencing the morphological process has changes in their word class and their meaning but most of them does not have any change either their word class or their meaning.

Abstract

Kesantunan berbahasa merupakan salah satu topik kebahasaan yang cukup banyak dikaji dalam penelitian. Kesantunan berbahasa dalam beberapa tahun belakangan ini tidak hanya berfokus pada masalah linguistik, akan tetapi juga dapat dikaitkan dengan budaya masyarakat penutur bahasa yang melatarbelakanginya. Salah satunya adalah aimai hy?gen (ungkapan ambiguitas). Aimai hy?gen merupakan salah satu konsep berkomunikasi yang masih digunakan oleh penutur masyarakat Jepang. Konsep aimai hy?gen ini berfokus pada gaya bahasa yang digunakan melalui makna-makna yang tidak jelas atau tidak pasti oleh karena terlalu banyaknya makna yang dimiliki oleh ungkapan tersebut. Hal ini bertujuan untuk menghindari penggunaan ungkapan yang lugas, tegas, dan jelas. Berdasarkan fenomena tersebut, maka beberapa aimai hy?gen yang dikaitkan dengan prinsip kesantunan Leech dibahas dalam makalah ini.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji alih wahana cerita rakyat Bali yang berjudul Terjadinya Pulau Bali dari buku cerita bergambar menjadi anime. Objek penelitian ini adalah cerita rakyat Bali Terjadinya Pulau Bali karya Yuliadi Soekardi (2004) dan Anime Legenda Selat Bali karya Evelyn Zhang (2010). Penelitian ini dianalisis secara kualitatif dengan teori Alih Wahana Damono (2012) dan teori Strukturalis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui cara alih wahana cerita rakyat Bali dari buku cerita bergambar menjadi anime dan meningkatkan ketertarikan dan kecintaan masyarakat Bali terhadap cerita rakyat Bali. Hasil penelitian yaitu bahwa sebagai sarana pelestarian cerita rakyat, penulis cerita anime Legenda Selat Bali dalam proses alih wahana dari buku cerita bergambar melakukan pengurangan, penambahan, dan pemvariasian unsur-unsur intrinsik pembentuk cerita rakyat Terjadinya Pulau Bali. Pengurangan, penambahan, dan pemvariasian tersebut dilakukan untuk menyesuaikan dengan bentuk dan jenis anime yang dibuat. Anime Legenda Selat Bali diperuntukkan bagi anak-anak oleh karena itu, terdapat pengurangan pada tokoh cerita, alur dan peristiwa, dan latar. Pengurangan ini dilakukan untuk menyerderhanakan cerita. Selain itu, penyesuaian dilakukan dengan menghilangkan beberapa adegan kekerasan. Penambahan cerita terdapat pada adegan anti klimaks. Perubahan bervariasi terdapat pada bentuk perjudian yang dilakukan tokoh Manik dari perjudian dengan dadu menjadi sabung ayam. Simpulan penelitian ini adalah bahwa pengurangan, penambahan, dan perubahan bervariasi dalam cerita dilakukan pengarang agar cerita lebih menarik, manambah unsur penasaran, dan agar para pembaca tidak bosan.

Abstract

Despite the ongoing situational debate about sign language, there is a growing number of sign language usage in the social context in Indonesia. Bali, as one of the centers of Deaf community, provides potential resources for the research of sign language in Indonesia. This research explores the sign language variation in Bali specifically in Denpasar. The studies of sign language and Deaf community is also discussed. The result of this research strengthens the situation of sign language as real language since it provides a complex language variation as found in verbal language.
