Abstract

Background: Several deficits occurred in the knee after ACL reconstruction that affected the level of physical activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between post-ACLR knee function and physical activity level. Methods: The design of this study was observational analytic using a cross-sectional approach. The total sample consisted of 105 people from the Indonesian ACL Community selected using purposive sampling technique. Research instruments used to measure knee function included the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) and Lysholm Knee Scale, while physical activity was assessed using the Tegner activity scale (TAS). Results: A relationship was found between post-ACLR knee function and physical activity, with the results of the Spearman's rho test indicating a value of p = 0.034 (p <0.05) and a value of r = 0.207, which was positive. A positive value indicated that knee function increased or improved, leading to a tendency for increased physical activity. Discussion: Impaired knee function after ACLR negatively affected the level of physical activity, emphasizing the importance of special attention to knee function rehabilitation to optimize physical activity and achieve satisfactory results. Keywords: Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction, Knee Function, Physical Activity, Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score, Lysholm Knee Scale, Tegner activity scale.

Abstract

Introduction: To prevent the spread of the virus during the COVID-19 pandemic, all students in Indonesia were learning from home using laptops for long durations, that cause neck disabilities. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between laptop use and disability in the neck region. Methods: This study was analyzed using multivariate logistic regression analysis with 106 students in semesters 3rd, 5th, and 7th as participants. Data was taken using a questionnaire on a google form which was distributed in August 2021. Participant data such as age, gender, semester level, height, weight, physical activity per day and per week, use of Kinesio taping, any physiotherapy action taken for neck pain, use of pain medication, use of laptops per day and per week, and ergonomic position were collected as predictors of neck pain which were interpreted if the neck disability index questionnaire (NDI) value was >60%. Results: This study showed the results of 106 participants that have been analyzed, an increase of 1 hour of laptop use in students has a significant relation to an increase in neck pain of 3.1% after adjusting with other variables (p = 0.034). At the same time, other characteristics did not show a significant effect after adjusting with other variables on the occurrence of neck pain. Conclusions: With every increase in the possibility of using a laptop in undergraduate students, there was a significant increase in the risk of developing NDI after adjusting with other variables (gender, use of painkillers, ergonomic position, physical activity, and semester).

Abstract

Background: The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is a type of ligament situated within the human knee joint, connecting the femur to the tibia. It plays a crucial role in maintaining joint stability and controlling the anterior movement of the tibia relative to the femur. ACL reconstruction is a surgical procedure to connect the ACL ligament to restore stability to knee function.   In performing reconstruction, factors will affect the reconstruction results, one of which is the provision of rehabilitation, which will affect the patient's knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score (KOOS). Another factor, kinesiophobia, can affect psychologically, so patients tend to feel afraid to move. Objective: To determine whether factors affect lower extremity function and psychology before and after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) surgery. Methods: The study used a literature review design where the  secondary data from published literature was reviewed and reported as the study topic. Literature searches were conducted online from PubMed and Google Scholar, using the keywords "ACL," "lower extremity function," "psychological," and "kinesiophobia" by combining the Boolean Operators "OR" and "AND." Results: Based on the results of the journal review, it was found that there are factors that affect lower extremity function and psychology before and after reconstruction. Providing rehabilitation before and after ACLR and a low level of kinesiophobia can affect better reconstruction results. Conclusion: Based on the review results, it might be concluded that several factors influence changes in lower extremity function and psychology. Factors such as the provision of pre and postoperative rehabilitation can affect the patient's lower extremity function. At the same time, factors such as kinesiophobia can affect the patient's psychology so that it has an impact on the ability to carry out daily activities.

Abstract

Abstract

Sport is a structured and planned physical activity aimed at improving fitness and overall health. One rapidly growing discipline is rock climbing, particularly in the speed category. This high-intensity anaerobic activity often causes muscle fatigue, elevated blood lactate, and increased recovery heart rate. Excessive lactate accumulation disrupts recovery and may impair performance, making effective recovery methods essential. Two commonly used techniques are Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching and cold water immersion, or ice bath. This study compared the effectiveness of PNF stretching and ice bath in reducing blood lactate and recovery heart rate among rock climbing athletes in Denpasar City. A quasi-experimental pre-test–post-test design was conducted on three groups: PNF stretching (n=6), ice bath (n=6), and control (n=6). Interventions were performed twice weekly for two weeks. Blood lactate levels were measured with the Lactate Scout, while recovery heart rate was recorded manually at one and five minutes post-exercise. Results indicated that both PNF stretching and ice bath significantly reduced blood lactate (p<0.05) compared to control, but the ice bath produced greater and more consistent reductions. For recovery heart rate, no significant differences were found between groups (p>0.05). However, the ice bath group displayed a more favorable downward trend, suggesting potential clinical relevance. PNF stretching did not significantly affect heart rate recovery compared to ice bath or control but still demonstrated positive recovery effects. In conclusion, the ice bath method proved more effective than PNF stretching in reducing blood lactate, making it a recommended recovery strategy for speed climbing athletes. PNF stretching remains valuable for flexibility and muscular relaxation and may be best applied alongside other recovery methods. Future studies should investigate long-term outcomes, varied immersion protocols, and larger athlete populations to enhance generalizability

Abstract

An ACL injury has been the most common injury for several years. Athletes and players who play the game have the same risk factor to have it. Injury prevention programs must be conducted among teams and could remove team injury costs in medical staff and rehabilitation. This review aims to conduct one prevention program for ACL injury in Indonesian soccer athletes. In Indonesia, this program needs support from all stakeholders, including the coach, chief executor manager, and the medical team. The risk factor of ACL injury is divided into external and internal factors, which have to be the main focus of the medical team to process a program. Prevention program for an ACL injury includes strengthening, agility, plyometrics, balance, and proper warm-up. Those types of exercise should be implemented in intervention among athletes, but they still need their perspectives and health condition.
