Abstract

The roasting process has become the most necessary post-harvest handling process to be awarded in controlling coffee quality. In this research, the effect of roasting temperature has been investigated to the chlorogenic acid content on pure robusta coffee of local varieties and its mixture with soybeans as a parameter to control the quality. The temperature of roasting had variated at 195°C, 215°C, 225°C, 230°C, and 240°C. The chlorogenic acid contents have been obtained based on their maximum absorbances measured by a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at 290 nm wavelength range. The increase in roasting temperature reduces the chlorogenic acid levels because some have turned into melanoidin compounds. To increase the weight of Robusta coffee and change the taste of coffee, soybeans have been added as a coffee mixture. The results of the study were then extended to the observation of coffee quality on the content of chlorogenic acid it produces. The addition of soybeans by 10% can increase the chlorogenic acid content at a roasting temperature of 230°C around 5.12%, and there will be a decrease when the temperature is lowered. The addition of soybeans with a mass fraction of 20% of the total amount of coffee has increased the absorbance due to other antioxidant substances from the soybeans. The results of this study are expected to add insight to the public about the temperature required for the roasting process to obtain quality coffee with chlorogenic acid content that is still present after the roasting process.

Abstract

In this experiment, seven single-chamber microbial fuel cells (MFCs) were made and filled with various types of local agricultural soil and sediments found in irrigation channels, which were mixed with glucose and green bean sprouts mashed as nutrients for microbial survival. MFC electric power was measured every day for 35 days. Every time low electric power indicated weak microbial activity, green bean sprouts were added. The highest electric power of 118 µW (23.4 mW/m2) was observed in fuel cells filled with agricultural land planted with rice. Power density reached the range of 120–140 mW/m2, whereas the incubation time showed a maximum of 35 days. This study found that adding green bean sprouts can increase the length of the MFC cycle and strengthen the generated power up to 122 mW.

Abstract

Furniture (chairs, beds, sideboards and so on) are items needed by every household that potential to be cultivated as a livelihood. Some of the basic materials for making furniture products are available locally (village) and some come from the city. Techniques for making furniture products such as how to make wooden frames, cut furniture cloth or leather, sew furniture fabrics, and the process of assembling and combining them into a furniture product must be owned by furniture workers, in order to open a furniture business. In addition to the technical skills that must be possessed, the required equipment such as tools, sewing machines and so on must also be owned for this furniture business to be successful. Some of the difficulties of Jelbuk furniture entrepreneurs are that they do not have enough skills to sew and do not have a sewing machine. If there is sewing work, it is always given to another party whose existence is 20 km from Jelbuk. This is what makes Jelbuk entrepreneurs less economically empowered. Therefore, the purpose of carrying out this activity is to provide guidance on sewing techniques and procurement of sewing machines as an alternative solution for these furniture entrepreneurs. This activity was carried out in several stages, namely 1) procuring sewing machines that were tailored to the needs of making a furniture product, 2) providing guidance on sewing techniques, and 3) training on techniques for making fashion furniture products according to consumer tastes. Guidance on sewing techniques is given starting from getting to know the sewing machine and its characteristics as well as sewing guidance to make a simple product to the details. The results of the community service activities are enough to help improve the ability of sewing techniques so that all pron products can be done at their own place without having to be given to other parties, so that the completion is faster and more cost efficient. The guidance process is still given for 3 months until it is completely independent. The ability of furniture entrepreneurs increases, the settlement process is faster, the number of consumers increases and will ultimately increase the income of furniture entrepreneurs in Suger Kidul Village, Kec. Jelbuk, Kab. Jember.

Abstract

The majority of the farmers in Pringtali Hamlet, Mayang Village, Jember Regency, are also cattle breeders. Cattle breeders make up the majority of farmers. They construct basic cow enclosures; the majority are joined to the home, while others are independent. For the two of them, the cage's quality does not match the standards for cleanliness. Even in cages attached to the home, the smell of cow poo can be detected up to three meters outside the cage and within the main house. Ammonia is often the gas that is released from either liquid or solid cow manure. This gas can have some negative effects on health; in fact, it can irritate respiratory blood vessels in those 60 years of age and older. Because ammonia gas from cages has not been handled adequately, the living environment is contaminated. The goal of our service is to measure the threshold level of ammonia gas surrounding the cage (using the MQ-135 sensor) in order to ascertain whether the cage is ecologically friendly and healthy. Two cow pens one adjacent to a domestic main house in Pringtali Hamlet and the other from a separate traditional pen have had measurements taken. By monitoring liquid excrement drainage channels and promoting air circulation around the cage, the measurements seek to maintain the cleanliness of the cage environment and the management of ammonia gas content. Cage management so that the livestock community can improve the cleanliness of the living environment.

Abstract

The growth in population is not adequately matched by the corresponding increase in energy demand. The imperative for prioritizing the exploration of alternative energy sources that possess attributes of safety, affordability, and ample access to raw materials cannot be overstated. An energy source with significant potential is a microbial fuel cell (MFC)-based energy source. This study aims to investigate the utilization of cow rumen as a substrate and source of nutrition in the bioenergy system of microbial fuel cells (MFCs). The present study aims to investigate the impact of substrate concentration and bacterial incubation duration derived from bovine rumen bacteria on the attainment of optimal power density. The research employed a Dual Chamber Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) device using a Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) constructed from ceramic materials. Daily observations were conducted over a period of 30 days. The performance of MFC was assessed utilizing the polarization technique. The findings indicated that altering the proportion of bovine rumen bacterial substrates and the duration of bacterial incubation had an impact on the power density seen in the Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) system. The optimal conditions were attained when the substrate concentration reached 3640 ppm and after 7 days, resulting in a maximum power density of 864 mW/m2.

Abstract

A thermoelectric generator (TEG) is a device that converts heat energy into electrical energy. The working principle of this device is based on Seebeck's law, namely this device will produce electrical energy if the cold side and hot side of this device have a temperature difference value of . This device can be used for generator panels whose heat source comes from the sun. The cold side of the TEG is conditioned by utilizing water fluid which is passed over the heatsink. The temperature difference between the hot and cold sides of the TEG generates an electric voltage through the Seebeck effect. The parameters observed in the research on electricity generation using this TEG are voltage, current, electric power, and the temperature difference between the hot and cold sides. The resulting parameter values are as follows; average voltage (0.5495 volts), average electric current strength of 0.04 A, average electric power (0.022 watts). mean temperature difference (16.006 oC). The largest average Seebeck coefficient is 0.0413 V/oC.
