Abstract

Abstract The noodle industry liquid waste is rich in ammonia and TSS and thus need to be processed before being flown to environment. A research aims to reduce the ammonia and TSS on liquid waste using biofilters has been conducted in March-April 2018.The noodle industry liquid waste (175 liters) wastreated using a batch system that was consisted of2 anaerob and 1 aerob tanks and Eichhrornia crassipes phytoremediation pond. The liquid waste was kept for 10 days in anaerob tank with gravel, sand and fibers media. Then the waste was kept for 7 days in aerob tanks with mangrove charcoal media. Finally the waste was kept for 15 days in a phytoremediation pondthat was completed with Eichhrornia crassipes. By the end of the experiment, the ammonia reduced from 9.123 mg/L to 0.415 mg/L (effectiveness 95.45%)and TSS reduced from 448 mg/L to 85 mg/L (effectiveness 81.02%). The treated waste was used for rearing Cyprinus carpio L. fingerling (4 - 7 mm TL) for 15 days and survival rate of the fish was 85%. Based on data obtained, the combination of anaerob-aerob biofilters and phytoremediationusing Eichhornia crassipes is effective to reduce the ammonia and TSS content in thenoodle industry liquid waste. Keywords: Mangrove charcoal, Organic waste, organic pollutant, waste water, batch system

Abstract

ABSTRACT BatangArau River received organic matter from domestic activities conducted around the river. As the load capacity of a river is limited, any load addition may damage the ecosystem in the river. The aims of this study is to determine the capacity of the organic pollution load of the BatangArau River based on the BOD and COD content. This research was conducted in June 2017. There were 5 stations, in the upstream (S1), in the middle of the river (S2 and S3) and in the downstream (S4 and S5). Water samplings were conducted 3 times, once per week. Parameters measured were BOD and COD. The load capacity was calculated using a mass balance method. Results shown that the BOD content was 4.3 mg/L and COD 17.7 mg/L. Based on government standard (PP. 82 of 2001), the river is categorized as polluted and it may not be able to receive any organic matter load addition.Keyword :Mass balance method, pollution load, organic matter, domestic activities

Abstract

AbstractThis study discusses the content of heavy metals Fe suspended loads on the Sail River, Pekanbaru City. The study aimed to determine the content of heavy metals Fe and suspended solids in the waters of the Sail River. This research was conducted in February - March 2019. Suspended solid samples were taken from 3 stationsof the Sail River. Samples were taken at each station according to the depth, namely the sampling point on the surface of the water, the sampling point in the middle of the water, and the sampling point at the bottom of the water. Sampling time is done every 3 times in 1 month. The results were obtained, the average suspended solids at Station Iwere 149 mg/l, Station IIwas 237 mg/l, and the sampling point was 114 mg/l. The average content of heavy metals Fe in suspended solids at station Iwaters are Fe 2.95 mg/l and 0.152 mg/l, station II namely Fe 2.786 mg/l and 0.125 mg/l, and station IIInamely Fe, which is 2.86 mg/l and 0.147 mg/l. The higher of Supended Solid in water the higher of heavy metal. Keywords: station of the river, depth of the river

Abstract

Abstract The laundry waste is rich in MBAS and phosphate and its need to be processed before being flown to environment. This study aimsto determine the ability of  abatchbiofilter system in reducingthe phosphate and MBAS content. This study has been conducted in January-March 2018.The laundry liquid waste (175 liters) was kept in 2 anaerobik tanks that was completed with gravel, sand and palm fibers media for ten days. Then the waste was flown to aerobik tanks (coconut shellcharcoal media) for seven days. Finallythe wastewas treated in a phytoremediation pondthat was completed withSalvinia molestafor fifteen days. By the end of the experiment, the phosphate reduced from 11.6-0.8 mg/L (the effectiveness was 92.67%)and the MBAS reduced from 10.5-1.3 mg/L (the effectiveness was 87.16%). Other water quality parameters such as pH was normal and temperature and DO were improved. The treated waste was then used for rearing Cyprinus carpio (5-7 cm TL) for 10 days. The survival rate of the fish was 89%. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the combination of biofiters and phytoremediation system using Salvinia molesta is effective to reduce the phosphate and MBAS content in the laundry liquid waste. Keyword:waste water, detergent contaminated waste, bacth system, surfactant
