Abstract

Chemical Bonding is one of the chemicals with abstract concepts, and is admittedly difficult to understand and often leads to misconceptions in students. This study aims to identify student misconception on the concept of Chemical Bonding. The method used in this research is quantitative descriptive. The study was conducted on 31 January to 6 February 2018. The subjects of this study are X grade students academic year 2017/2018 with the number of samples of 48 students. The misconception identification was performed using a four-tier multiple-choice (4TMC) test instrument. Students' answers from the 4TMC test are then analyzed and categorized based on the students' level of understanding. The results showed that there was a misconception of 30.31% (low category). Significant misconceptions are identified as 8 out of 13 subconcepts of the Chemical Bonding they are Lewis Structure and the Octet Rule (33.33%), Metal Bond and Metal Properties (20.83%), Ionic Compounds and Covalent Compounds (27.08%) , Theory of VSEPR (20.83%), Electron Domain Theory (18.75%), Polarity of Molecul (27.08%), Van der Waals Forces (14.58%), and Hydrogen Bond (29.17%). The result of identification of students' misconception is expected to be helpful in handling misconception at student earlier so as not to hamper students in learning. Abstract

The ability of scientific literacy of indonesian student categorized as low. One of the factor that contribute is that the ability of a scientific literacy of a teacher. The hydroponics practical in a biotechnology’s subject, can be measure the ability of scientific literacy of a student because there is a science process in it. The aim of this reasearch is to determine the ability of scientific literacy of chemisty pre-service Teachers for the knowledge and competency’s aspects in a hydroponics topic. The method that used in this reasearch was quantitative descriptive analysis and the technique of data collection by spreading the instrument in a purposive sampling technique to 50 chemisty pre-service teachers. The instrment that used was 10 items of essay questions. The data was analyse with a scoring method and then will change it into a percentage. Based on the reasearch, the ability of scientific literacy of a student for knowledge’s aspect is 68.5% and for the competency is 62.2%. From that data, it can conclude that the ability of scientific literacy of chemistry chemisty pre-service teachers for knowledge and comptency aspects categorized good.

Abstract

 During the 21st century, students are encouraged to develop skills that enable them to deal with real-life problems. The purpose of this study is to analyze what kind of 21st-century skills can be built during a teaching and learning process in the classroom. Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) approach through a project-based learning (PjBL), or STEAM-PjBL-based learning, seems to provide a promise in the development of 21st-century skills of students. This study, therefore, is conducted to reveal the kind of skills that can be built during the STEAM-PjBL learning process. Using a literature review, this study collects and analyzes relevant articles from national and international journals through several search engine systems, such as Taylor & Francis Online, Springer, etc., and indexed databases, such as SCOPUS, DOAC, and Eric, both from the period of 2014-2022. This study found that the 4Cs of the 21st-century skills, namely, critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration, and creative thinking, can be built from the activities in each stage of the STEAM-PjBL learning process.  While the skills are evident from the literature review, a further empirical study is encouraged to be conducted to ensure how the skills can be successfully developed and further improved

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' digital literacy in STEAM project-based chemistry learning based on a gender perspective. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method with data collection techniques through a questionnaire instrument on 30 students of class XI science who were selected by purposive sampling. The research instrument consisted of 6 indicators, which were developed into 18 questionnaire items, which were arranged using a Likert scale. Research data were analyzed quantitatively descriptively by calculating scores and percentages. The results of the analysis of students' digital literacy data as a whole showed an average of 81.75% in the excellent category. The study based on gender showed an average gain of 81% for female students and 82.6% for male students, both of which did not have a significant difference, and both were in the excellent category. These results indicate that the STEAM project approach can be an alternative learning that can maximize students' digital literacy.

Abstract

Students generally have difficulty understanding chemistry learning material on acid-base titrations. Learning is still teacher-centered and there is little student activity in playing a role in the learning process. Objective: to discover science process skills and the value of guided inquiry-based acid-base titration practical reports. Method: quantitative descriptive, class XI MIPA 1 MAN 11 South Jakarta. The sample was 34 students using purposive random sampling. Data were collected using a 23-item questionnaire from indicators of science process skills in practical acid-base titration material and practical report grades. Research results: the implementation of guided inquiry-based acid-base titration practical learning showed good results. The average final score for students' practicum report results was 86.941, the standard deviation was 4.313. This indicates that the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) set by the school of 80 has been achieved. The highest percentage of science process skills in the observing indicator is 82.6%. And the indicators of grouping, predicting, hypothesizing, applying concepts, interpreting, planning experiments, and using tools are categorized as good. Meanwhile, 2 other indicators are in the sufficient category, namely the indicator of asking questions 53.8% and communicating 60.6%. Conclusion: An acid-base titration practicum using the guided inquiry learning model can improve learning outcomes and develop students' science process skills. Abstract

Siswa pada umumnya mengalami kejenuhan pada pembelajaran kimia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penerapan model quantum learning sebagai upaya menurunkan kejenuhan belajar siswa dalam mempelajari kimia. Penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian quasi eksperiment menggunakan desain matching pretest-posttest control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa di salah satu Sekolah Menengah Atas Swasta. Sampel penelitian menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data mempergunakan teknik non tes, instrumen berupa kuesioner kejenuhan belajar. Teknik analisis data menggunakan SPSS versi 20. Hasil uji hipotesis menggunakan uji Mann-Whitney dari data N-gain yaitu sig.(2-tailed) = 0,093 / 2 = 0.0465 < 0,05 atau H0 ditolak. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model quantum learning berperan sebagai upaya menurunkan kejenuhan belajar siswa dalam mempelajari kimia. Hasil penelitian ini dapat dijadikan sebagai rekomendasi bagi para guru untuk diterapkan dalam kegiatan pembelajaran kimia di sekolah yang dapat menurunkan kejenuhan belajar siswa dalam mata pelajaran kimia.

Abstract

Berpikir kritis merupakan salah satu tujuan penting dalam pendidikan untuk menghadapi pembelajaran kimia abad ke-21 namun pada umumnya kemampuan tersebut masih rendah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan setiap soal two-tier berdasarkan indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis kimia dan level akademik mahasiswa. Metode penelitiannya deskriptif kualitatif pada 31 mahasiswa semester 2 tahun ajaran 2018/2019 Program Studi Pendidikan Kimia. Subjek dibagi atas tiga kelompok yaitu level kemampuan tinggi (14 orang), sedang (10 orang), dan rendah (7 orang). Instrumen yang digunakan berupa tes soal two-tier. Pengolahan keabsahan data menggunakan teknik triangulasi (mereduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa baik secara keseluruhan maupun berdasarkan level kemampuan kimia (tinggi, sedang, rendah) sudah memiliki kemampuan menjelaskan suatu konsep kimia (grafik titrasi) namun masih rendah dalam mambandingkan kekuatan asam basa berdasarkan ikatan O-H dan keelektronegatifan. Sehingga kemampuan berpikir kritis kimia yang dimiliki mahasiswa mampu mendorong dalam memahami konsep-konsep dasar kimia lebih mendalam agar dapat memberikan pemahaman pada tingkat makroskopis maupun mikroskopis.

Abstract

Kimia merupakan pelajaran sulit karena memiliki konsep yang bersifat abstrak. Akibatnya siswa mengalami kesulitan belajar kimia sehingga hasil belajarnya rendah. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui korelasi dan kontribusi dari kecerdasan emosional dan minat siswa terhadap hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran kimia. Metode penelitian menggunakan deskriptif kuantitatif. Penelitian berlokasi di dua SMAN Kota Tangerang dengan populasi seluruh kelas X dan 300 siswa sebagai sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen penelitian berupa angket kecerdasan emosional dan minat serta nilai ujian akhir semester 1 untuk data hasil belajar siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 1) kecerdasan emosional dan minat memiliki korelasi dengan hasil belajar, 2) kecerdasan emosional dan minat memiliki kontribusi pada hasil belajar siswa sebesar 8,94%. Kesimpulannya kecerdasan emosional dan minat berperan dalam meningkatkan pemusatan perhatian siswa pada saat mata pelajaran kimia berlangsung.

Abstract

AbstractThe Integration of Islam and Science has been applied in several countries both domestically and abroad. The Chemistry  Education Study Program has not yet implemented the integration of Islam and science, especially in the stoichiometry concept. Therefore, Chemistry Education at the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University of Jakarta added the Program  Learning Outcome (PLO) is in the form of mastering the basic concepts of scientific, Islamic, and Indonesian integration in basic chemistry concept. This study aims to analyze the integration of Islam and science on the stoichiometry concept using the 4-STMD method. The 4-STMD method consists of the selection stage, the structuring stage, the characterization stage, and the reduction stage. The subjects used were 49 students of chemical education class of 2016/2017, one validator of integration experts, and three validators of media experts. The instrument used was in the form of mortar test questionnaire sheets and validation sheets for integration experts and media experts. The result shows that at the selection stage, the determination of the main textbook is the book written by Raymond Chang. In the structuring phase, a draft of the Islamic integrated teaching concept is obtained that ready to be tested. At the characterization, stage have a high level of comprehension test of 80.6% with the easy category. This shows that the integrated Islamic stoichiometry concept does not need to be carried out at the reduction stage. The results of the stoichiometric material feasibility test were 96.74% with very decent criteria. The integrated Islamic stoichiometry concept can be used as a reference source in the learning of integrated Islamic chemistry.AbstrakIntegrasi Islam dan Sains sudah diterapkan dibeberapa negara baik dalam negeri maupun luar negeri. Program Studi Pendidikan Kimia belum menerapkan integrasi islam dan sains terutama dalam materi stoikiometri. Oleh sebab itu, Pendidikan kimia Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta menambahkan Program Learning Outcome (PLO) berupa menguasai konsep dasar integrasi keilmuwan, keislaman, dan keindonesiaan pada materi kimia dasar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis integrasi islam dan sains pada materi stoikiometri menggunakan metode 4-STMD.  Metode  4-STMD  terdiri dari tahap seleksi, tahap strukturisasi, tahap karakterisasi, dan tahap reduksi. Subjek yang digunakan adalah 49 mahasiswa pendidikan kimia angkatan 2016/2017, satu validator ahli integrasi, dan tiga validator ahli media. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa lembar angket tes rumpang dan lembar validasi ahli integrasi serta ahli media.  Hasil menunjukkan bahwa pada tahap seleksi dilakukan penentuan buku teks utama yaitu buku  karangan Raymond Chang. Pada Tahap stukturisasi diperoleh draft bahan ajar terintegrasi keislaman yang siap diujikan. Pada tahap karakterisasi  memiliki uji keterpahaman tingkat tinggi sebesar 80,6 % dengan kategori mudah. Hal ini menunjukkan materi stoikiometri terintegrasi keislaman tidak perlu dilakukan tahap reduksi. Hasil uji kelayakan materi stoikiometri sebesar 96,74 % dengan kriteria sangat layak. Materi stoikiometri terintegrasi keislaman yang dihasilkan dapat digunakan sebagai sumber referensi dalam pembelajaran kimia  terintegrasi keislaman.
