Abstract

ABSTRAKPendahuluan: Lingkungan rongga mulut dapat memengaruhi kualitas dari kawat ortodonti, salah satunya adalah proses korosi yang dapat  menurunkan kualitas kawat ortodonti. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk menghambat laju korosi adalah dengan menggunakan inhibitor korosi. Inhibitor korosi dapat berasal dari bahan alami yang mengandung zat aktif dengan kemampuan antioksidan, misalnya tanin. Salah satu bahan alami yang mengandung tanin adalah biji buah Alpuket (Persea americana). Tujuan penelitian menganalisis efektivitas ekstrak biji Persea americana sebagai bahan inhibitor korosi pada kawat ortodonti berbahan dasar Nikel titanium. Metode: Jenis penelitian eksperimental laboratorium dengan rancangan pretest-posttest group design, menggunakan 16 sampel kawat NiTi berukuran 0,017×0,025 inci yang dibagi menjadi kelompok kontrol yang direndam dalam larutan saliva buatan, kelompok perlakuan direndam dalam larutan ekstrak limbah biji Persea americanayang diperoleh dengan metode maserasi dan pelarut etanol 95%. Konsentrasi ekstrak yang digunakan adalah 1,5g/L, 2g/L dan 2,5g/L. Sampel diukur laju korosi dengan metode weight loss. Hasil: Data yang didapatkan terdistribusi normal dan menunjukkan bahwa hasil uji one way ANOVA terdapat perbedaan (p=0,000), Uji komparasi antar kelompok dengan uji Post Hoc LSD diperoleh hasil beda signifikan antara kelompok kecuali antara kelompok perlakukan konsentrasi 2 g/L dengan konsentrasi 2,5g/L menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan (p=0,061).  Simpulan: Ekstrak biji Persea americanadapat digunakan sebagai inhibitor korosi pada kawat ortodonti Nikel titanium.Kata kunciekstrak, alpukat (persea americana), inhibitor korosi, kawat ortodonti Nikel titaniumUtilization of avocado seed waste extract as a corrosion inhibitor in wire based on nickel titanium: Experimental laboratory studyABSTRAKIntroduction: The oral environment can influence the quality of orthodontic wires, with corrosion being one of the processes that can compromise their quality. One practical approach is to employ corrosion inhibitors to mitigate the corrosion process. These inhibitors can be derived from natural sources encompassing active compounds possessing antioxidant properties, such as tannins. An example of a natural ingredient rich in tannins is the seed of the avocado. Research Objectives: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of avocado seed extract as a corrosion inhibitor for orthodontic wires based on nickel-titanium alloy. Methods: This study employed a laboratory experimental research design with a pretest-posttest group configuration. Sixteen samples of NiTi wire, measuring 0.017 × 0.025 inches each, were utilized. These samples were divided into two groups: a control group submerged in an artificial saliva solution and a treatment group submerged in an avocado seed waste extract. The extract was obtained using a 95% ethanol solvent through the maceration method. Various concentrations of the extract, namely 1.5g/L, 2g/L, and 2.5g/L, were employed. The corrosion rate of the samples was measured using the weight loss method. Results: The acquired data exhibited a normal distribution and indicated a significant distinction in the outcomes according to the one-way ANOVA test (P=0.000). Further examination between the groups utilizing the LSD Post Hoc test demonstrated noteworthy differences between most groups, except for the comparison between the groups treated with a concentration of 2 g/L and a concentration of 2.5 g/L, where no significant difference was observed (P = 0.061). Conclusion: Avocado seed extract can serve as a corrosion inhibitor for nickel-titanium orthodontic wires.Keywordsavocado seed extract, corrosion inhibitor, nickel titanium orthodontic wire

Abstract

The release of ions is the initial stage of the corrosion process in an orthodontic wire. Continuous release of ions can reduce the effectiveness and performance of the orthodontic wire. Continuous release of ions in CuNiTi orthodontic wire can change the properties of the wire and trigger hypersensitivity reactions, also in stainless steel orthodontic wire which experiences continuous release of ions can reduce its stiffness. The tannin in avocado seeds is useful as a corrosion inhibitor it can inhibit the release of ions because they are able to bind with metal ions and form a passive layer also able to bind with Fe ions in stainless steel orthodontic wires to form a passive surface layer which is able to inhibit the release of ions when the corrosion process occurs. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of avocado seed extract as a corrosion inhibitor on the release of metal ions from CuNiTi and stainless steel orthodontic wires. Rectangular CuNiTi and stainless steel orthodontic wires measuring 0.017 x 0.025 inches were taken in 3 groups (1 control group soaked in artificial saliva and 2 treatment groups soaked in avocado seed extract). The samples were soaked in avocado seed extract with a concentration of 1.5 g/L and 2 g/L for 7 days. To see the release of ions, an X-Ray Fluorescence test is carried out. In CuNiTi orthodontic wire from the one way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference between the control group and all treatment groups on Cu, Ni and Ti ions. The Post Hoc LSD test showed that there were significant differences between the control group, treatment group 1 and treatment group 2 in Cu, Ni and Ti ions with a p value. In stainless steel orthodontic wire, the one way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference between the control group and all treatment groups in Fe and Ni ions but not significant in Cr ions in the ion release test with a p value <0.05. The Post Hoc LSD test showed that there were significant differences between the control group, treatment group 1 and treatment group 2 in Fe and Ni ions with a p value <0.05. Providing avocado seed extract with tannin content at concentrations of 1.5 g/L and 2 g/L can inhibit the rate of ion release in CuNiTi and stainless steel orthodontic wires due to the corrosion process.

Abstract

Proses penguraian sampah organik dengan biokonvertor Black Soldier Fly (BSF) dilakukan pada tahap larva, sehingga saat BSF menjadi lalat dewasa, bertelur dan mati akan meninggalkan limbah media bekas maggot, cangkang pupa dan bangkai lalat. Limbah media bekas maggot digunakan untuk bahan kompos, sedangkan limbah cangkang pupa dan bangkai lalat belum dimanfaatkan. Timbunan limbah cangkang pupa dan bangkai lalat setelah siklus hidup BSF dikhawatirkan bisa menimbulkan pencemaran udara dan lingkungan jika dibiarkan menumpuk di halaman rumah. Berdasarkan analisis situasi tersebut, tim ProbangDebi UNEJ bersama Bank Sampah Ekoliterasi Dermaku Jenggawah merancang kegiatan yang bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi tentang teknologi pengolahan limbah cangkang pupa agar memiliki nilai ekonomi. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan adalah edukasi potensi limbah cangkang pupa BSF dan pelatihan teknologi pengolahan limbah cangkang pupa BSF. Data pre-test dan post-test menunjukkan bahwa terjadi peningkatan pengetahuan pembudidaya maggot di Desa Jenggawah tentang pemanfaatan limbah cangkang pupa BSF menjadi produk yang memiliki nilai tambah. Pengolahan limbah cangkang pupa BSF dapat ditingkatkan kapasitasnya menjadi skala yang lebih besar lagi seiring dengan peningkatan kebutuhan pasar dalam pemanfaatan kitin dan kitosan. Selanjutnya, dibutuhkan pelatihan pemasaran melalui platform e-commerce dan koordinasi lintas sektoral untuk memberikan dukungan atas upaya pengolahan limbah menjadi produk yang bermanfaat bagi kesejahteraan dan perekonomian masyarakat. Kata kunci— Black Soldier Fly, Budidaya Maggot, Cangkang Pupa, Kitin, Kitosan Abstract The process of decomposing organic waste using the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) bioconverter is carried out at the larval stage. BSF becomes adult flies, lay eggs and die, which will leave maggot cultivation media, pupa shells and fly carcasses. Maggot cultivation media is used as compost material, while pupa shells and fly carcasses have not been utilized. Piles of pupa shells and fly carcasses can cause air and environmental pollution. The ProbangDebi UNEJ team and the Dermaku Jenggawah Ecoliteracy Waste Bank designed activities aimed at providing education on pupa shell processing so that it has economic value. The implementation method is education and training on BSF pupa shell processing technology. Pre-test and post-test data show that there has been an increase in the knowledge of maggot cultivators in Jenggawah Village regarding the use of BSF pupa shells into products that have added value. BSF pupa shell processing capacity can be increased to a larger scale in line with increasing market demand for the use of chitin and chitosan. Furthermore, marketing training through e-commerce platforms and cross-sectoral coordination is needed to provide support for efforts to process waste into products that are beneficial for the welfare and economy of the community. Abstract

Introduction: Tooth loss refers to the condition in which teeth are dislodged  from their sockets. In elderly individuals, tooth loss can lead to reduced chewing ability, which may contribute to a higher likelihood of cognitive function. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between tooth loss and cognitive function among the elderly. Methods: The study employed an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional design. Participants were recruited using a purposive total sampling technique. Subjects were selected based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in a final sample size of 48 participants. All participants provided informed consent, and data were collected using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) questionnaire. The data were tabulated and analyzed descriptively, followed by a Spearman correlation test with a significance threshold set at 0.000 (p-value <0.05). Results: The correlation coefficient was found to be 0.487, indicating a moderate positive relationship between tooth loss and cognitive function among elderly. Conclusion: There is a moderate positive relationship between tooth loss and cognitive function among elderly.

Abstract

The surface roughness of orthodontic archwires is an essential factor that deter- mines the effectiveness of arch-guided tooth movement. CuNiTi-based wires are widely used in orthodontic treatment, but the oral environment can trigger corrosion of CuNiTi orthodontic wires. The tannin content in avocado seed extract can be used as a corrosion inhibitor through two working mechanisms, namely, forming a passive layer and an adsorption process. The aim of this research is to examine the effect of avocado seed extract as a corrosion inhibitor on the surface roughness of orthodontic CuNiTi wire. The as- retacngular 17 x 25 inch CuNiTi wire were taken in 4 group (1 control group soaked in artificial saliva and 3 treatment groups soaked in avocado seed extract ).  Samples were immersed in avocado seed extract with concentrations of 1,5 g/L, 2 g/L and 2,5g/L for 7 days. For surface roughness was test Surface Roughness Average analysis. One way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference between the control group and all treatment groups in the surface roughness test with a value of p = 0.000. Post Hoc LSD test showed that there were no significant differences between treatment group 2 and treatment group 3 with a p value = 0.122. Providing avocado seed extract with tannin content at concentrations of 1.5 g/L and 2 g/L can reduce surface roughness on CuNiTi wire due to the corrosion process.
