Abstract

Abstract

Soil-transmitted helminth infections remain a health problem among elementary school children in Indonesia because they lead to poor nutrition, reduced concentration in class, and lower productivity in the future. Prevention can be achieved through education on clean and healthy living habits, such as washing hands, keeping nails clean, wearing footwear, and regularly taking deworming medication as recommended. The community service activity carried out at SDN 019 Sungai Kunjang, Samarinda, East Kalimantan, aimed to increase students' knowledge about worm prevention. The implementation methods included recording student attendance, pre-tests, showing educational videos on worm infections, distributing leaflets, teaching students how to wash their hands with soap, and post-tests to measure student understanding. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' knowledge about worm prevention, as indicated by an increase in pre-test scores from 56.45 to 83.54 on the post-test.

Abstract

Self-medication is a common practice to treat minor health problems, with around 35.2% of families using this method, but it can lead to drug-related problems due to lack of knowledge. Hypertension, which is common among the young and increasing in Indonesia, can be caused by various factors such as obesity and unhealthy diet. Diabetes mellitus, categorised into type 1 and type 2, requires strict management to avoid serious complications. The prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia increased to 34.1% in 2018, while diabetes mellitus reached 21.8%. This program aims to increase public understanding of the correct use, management of drugs and to conduct early detection and preventive efforts for hypertension and diabetes mellitus through the Posbindu program with the Bangun city health centre for MAN 1 KUKAR students. The activities of this programme are in the form of counseling related to DAGUSIBU, counseling and screening of non-communicable diseases hypertension and diabetes mellitus). The results of the evaluation of DAGUSIBU counselling activities obtained good results and the hypertension examination carried out showed the results that there was 1 student in pre-hypertension, as many as 2 students in the stage 1 hypertension category, while 2 students in the stage 2 hypertension category. As well as in the measurement of diabetes mellitus, no students were found to have diabetes mellitus. This event is expected to be an effort to increase knowledge and early detection of non-communicable diseases in students at MAN 1 KUKAR.

Abstract

Genetic parameters were estimated for growth traits of Ampupu (Eucalyptus urophylla S.T. Blake) progeny test grown in Southern Central Timor - East Nusa Tenggara Province, Timor Island. When the trial was one year old data were collected from 45 half-sib open pollinated families and assessed. There were genetic variations in height and diameter among families of E. urophylla. Growth traits had moderate heritability, both individually and in family, i.e. 0.28 and 0.55 for height and 0.41 and 0.66 for diameter, respectively. Genetic correlation between height and diameter was strong (0.96). However, the estimation of genetic parameter should be interpreted carefully since the trial was very young. Re-assessment of the trial should be carried out periodically to provide better understanding of the species regarding the dynamic of the genetic interaction between the species and its environment, effective age of selection and prediction of genetic gain.
