Abstract

The use of Indonesian medicinal plants in empirical ingredients as a jamu in Indonesian tradition is very interesting to be explored. One of them is the use of jamu for aphrodisiac activity. This research is aimed to determine the data about the diversity of Indonesian medicinal plants used for aphrodisiacs. Some aspects reviewed were empirical use, safety data, and scientific research data. The method used in this research is narrative review by using search engine Sciencedirect, Pubmed, Springerlink, and Google Scholar in 24 years (2000-2024). The literature review resulted in 20 Indonesian medicinal plants, which were very potent for aphrodisiac. The plants are Areca catechu L., Pimpinella panatjan Mirb, Zingiber officinale, Dendrocalamus asper, Eurycoma longifolia Jack, Sanrego, Anacardium occidentale L., Imperata cylindrica L., Allium sativum L., Ocimum sanctum, Piper retrofractum Vahl., Piper nigrum L., Eugenia caryophyllata, Myristica Fragans, dan mangrove mangrove M. muticus, R. mucronata, R. apiculata, A. aureum, D. trifoliata and B. parviflora. Therefore, it will be used as a reference based for the further research.

Abstract

This activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of mothers who are members of the Langgar At-Taubah study group, Bukuan Village, Samarinda, East Kalimantan regarding making gummy candy to prevent stunting in children. The method of implementing this service uses interactive counseling. The evaluation instruments for this service are pre-test and post-test. The results of this service show that the knowledge and skills of most mothers have increased, as evidenced by the presence of 76% of mothers in the post-test who managed to answer all questions correctly, previously in the pre-test only 45%.

Abstract

Abstract

The dapD gene codes for the DapD enzyme, which plays a role in the lysine biosynthesis pathway, where deletion and mutation of this gene is lethal for bacteria, so it can be used for an antibiotic-free selection system. This research aims to design primers for the dapD gene that can amplify this gene in Escherichia coli for detection and confirmation in developing an antibiotic-free transformant selection system. Primer design was carried out in silico using the NCBI Primer Blast program. The dapD gene sequence was obtained from NCBI GenBank (NC_002695.2). This research has succeeded in obtaining the sequence of a pair of primers (forward and reverse) with a length of 20 oligonucleotides each; Tm of forward primer 59.97°C and reverse primer 59.83°C; %GC 50; dimer at the 3' end of forward primer 0 and reverse primer 2; and self-complementary 4. The dapD gene with a size of ± 800 bp was successfully amplified using the PCR technique and confirmed using 1% agarose electrophoresis.

Abstract

Flakes are a type of instant food product commonly consumed as a breakfast alternative, especially those labelled “low-glycaemic index” can be suitable for individuals with diabetes. Taro tubers (Colocasia esculenta L.) containing high fibre and low fat are among the raw materials that can be processed into instant food. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and determine the glycaemic index (GI) of Taro tuber flakes as an alternative processed food product for individuals with diabetes. Three distinct formulas, namely F1, F2, and F3, were developed with varying drying temperatures of 40 °C, 60 °C, and 80 °C. These were comprehensively evaluated through sensory testing (hedonic and scoring), followed by the analysis of moisture content, ash content, microbial examination, and glycaemic index. The results showed that all three developed formulas F1, F2, and F3 xhibited low glycaemic index values (below 55), along with acceptable moisture and ash content, and were free from Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi contamination. Among them, F2, which was dried at 60 °C, showed the lowest glycaemic index value of 15.1, indicating its potential to produce a minimal postprandial blood glucose response. Furthermore, F2 received an average hedonic score of 6, which indicates favorable sensory acceptance in terms of taste, color, texture, and aroma. Therefore, F2 was selected as the most suitable formula that can be consumed as an alternative food product to help manage diabetes through low-GI dietary strategies.
