Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh jenis fitoplankton dan intensitas cahaya terhadap peningkatan kadar oksigen terlarut di perairan. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Biologi Universitas Negeri Medan, Sumatera Utara untuk pengambilan data. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Mei 2017.  Variabel penelitian yang digunakan adalah perlakuan dengan jenis fitoplankton dan intensitas cahaya. Jenis fitoplankton yang digunakan adalah fitoplankton Arthospira platensis, Chorella vulgaris, dan Diatom sp. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 4 kali pengulangan. Pengamatan terhadap kadar oksigen terlarut dilakukan setelah 7 hari menggunakan DO meter. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan signifikan jenis fitoplankton terhadap kadar oksigen di air setelah 7 hari. Ada pengaruh jenis fitoplankton terhadap kadar oksigen terlarut di air. Kata kunci : Oksigen terlarut, Jenis fitoplankton, Intensitas cahaya.

Abstract

Higher education institution is one of educational institutions that serve as a place of cultural values, and norms expected to become a foundation to foster caring attitudes toward the environment. These attitudes are accordingly meant to develop ecological literacy in order to overcome environmental problems which are likely to be minimized by combining ecological literacy and creative thinking skills. A quantitative descriptive with correlational study was employed in this research. There were 275 college students from three areas in Indonesia, namely Jakarta, Sumatera, and Gorontalo involved as respondents of the research. Data was collected by means of Google Forms consisting of tests and opinions. The ecological literacy was analyzed using dimensions of caring, practical competence, and knowledge while the creative thinking skills were analyzed using dimensions of fluency, originality, flexibility, and elaboration. This research is limited to students in the Department of Science and Non-Science. Findings of the research indicates that the ecological literacy level is in the medium category, whereas the creative thinking skills are good. Female students have a higher average score in ecological literacy and creative thinking skills compared to that of male students. Thus, there is a positive relationship between ecological literacy and creative thinking skills.

Abstract

Penyulingan serai wangi mengalami peningkatan seiring dengan meningkatnya permintaan dari konsumen. Peningkatan jumlah limbah dari hasil sampingan penyulingan minyak serai menimbulkan permasalahan bagi lingkungan. LPPM Universitas Negeri Medan (Unimed) melalui kegiatan Program Kemitraan Masyarakat menjalin bekerja sama dengan Kelompok Tani penyulingan minyak serai yang berada di Desa Sampali, Kecamatan Percut Sei Tuan, Kabupaten Deli Serdang untuk memberikan solusi. Solusi yang diberikan berupa pelatihan dan pendampingan dalam pengolahan limbah padat serai wangi menjadi kompos. Limbah padat hasil sampingan penyulingan minyak serai (daun serai wangi) dijemur untuk mengurangi kadar airnya. Setelah kering kemudian daun di cacah dan ditambahkan EM4. Sementara limbah cair hasil sampingan penyulingan minyak serai langsung digunakan sebagai larvasida dengan konsentrasi 0%, 2%, 3%. 4%, 5% dan 6%.  Kompos yang dihasilkan memerlukan waktu lebih kurang 45 hari dengan tekstur sebagai berikut: berwarna hitam, gembur, tidak beraroma, dan daun serai belum terurai secara sempurna. Konsentrasi larvasida yang tepat untuk membasmi larva nyamuk Culex sp instar III adalah 6%, dengan kematian larva sebanyak 100% dalam 24 jam pengujian. Solusi yang diberikan ini dapat mengatasi permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh Kelompok Tani dan juga meningkatkan ilmu pengetahuan mereka serta meningkatkan nilai ekonomi dari limbah-limbah tersebut.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of mangrove land conversion on the social life of the community and describe the form of sustainable mangrove area management in Tapak Kuda Village, Tanjung Pura District, Langkat Regency. The research method used is a mixed research method. A mixed research method is a research method that combines or associates quantitative and qualitative methods. The results of the study indicate that the social impact of mangrove land conversion results in changes in the social conditions of the community based on employment opportunities of 66.36% in the high category. Based on the income level of 83.13% which means high. Based on the level of education 69.46% in the high category, meaning that it illustrates that the state of education in this village is still low. Based on the pattern of ownership and use of natural resources 53.50% of the answer category is not high. Based on the condition of natural resource use 45.52% in the high category. The process of implementing community-based mangrove forest management in Tapak Kuda Village, Tanjung Pura District, Langkat Regency consists of several stages as follows: a) Planning stage; b) Implementation stage; c) Maintenance stage; and d) Monitoring stage. In conclusion, the conversion of mangrove land has an impact on the social life of the community in Tapak Kuda Village, Tanjung Pura District, Langkat Regency.   Keywords: Impact, Conversion of Function, Mangrove Land, Social Conditions of the Community, Environmental Costal Management.

Abstract

The organisms that are most affected when pollutants enter the water are phytoplankton, because they can respond quickly to environmental changes and float passively in the water column. Phytoplankton contain chlorophyll, which they use for photosynthesis, so they are also referred to as plant plankton. In addition, phytoplankton play an important role as primary producers and oxygen generators, serving as the main food source for aquatic organisms, particularly zooplankton. The presence of phytoplankton is an indicator of whether a body of water is fertile, and it is also used to determine phytoplankton density in a given area. The phytoplankton community is influenced by physical and chemical factors of the water. A lower level of phytoplankton diversity indicates a higher level of pollution and ecosystem degradation. One of the main causes of aquatic ecosystem damage is water pollution due to accumulated waste.This study aims to analyze species composition, diversity levels, abundance, and the relationship between environmental conditions and phytoplankton abundance in Lake Siombak, Marelan, Medan. Sampling was conducted at five stations representing different activities and water characteristics. Phytoplankton identification was carried out using a Sedgwick Rafter Cell, while the measured physical-chemical parameters included temperature, transparency, pH, DO, and BOD. Data were analyzed using the Shannon–Wiener Index and one-way ANOVA to determine differences in abundance among stations.The results showed that four phytoplankton divisions were found, consisting of a total of 21 species, dominated by Bacillariophyta and Chlorophyta. The phytoplankton diversity level was classified as very good, with an average H’ value of 2.406 and a total value of 2.623, indicating a stable community. Phytoplankton abundance reached an average of 8,608 cells/L, falling into the lightly polluted oligotrophic category. The water quality parameters indicated lightly polluted conditions, with a temperature of 22.38°C, transparency of 26 cm, pH of 6.612, DO of 5.428 mg/L, and BOD of 9.482 mg/L. The ANOVA test showed a significance value of 0.418 (p 0.05), indicating no significant difference in phytoplankton abundance among stations, which reflects relatively homogeneous environmental conditions. Overall, Lake Siombak has a stable phytoplankton community structure, but the waters are in a lightly polluted state, indicating the need for further management to maintain the lake’s ecosystem quality.
