Abstract

Background: Surgery will cause anxiety. One way to reduce anxiety in preoperative patients is through health education using leaflet media. Leaflets are pieces of paper that contain writing and images to convey a message and are easy to carry.Purpose: This study was to analyze the effect of health education using leaflet media on anxiety levels in preoperative patients at Ungaran Hospital. Methods: This study used Quasi-Experiment with the design of two group pre-post. Bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon test. The sample amounted to 30 respondents consisting of 15 respondents in the intervention group and 15 respondents in the control group using the Consecutive Sampling approach that met the inclusion criteria. Anxiety level assessment was given twice before and after treatment and anxiety levels were measured using the HARS (Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale) questionnaire. Results: The results showed that there was an effect of health education using leaflet media on anxiety levels (p=0,001) and there was an effect of health education without leaflets on anxiety levels (p=0,001). The post-test scores of the intervention group 9,13 and the control group 15,27.Conclusion: Health education using leaflet media can be applied as an alternative to delivering information before surgery to reduce anxiety.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Illness and hospitalization generally require modifications in personal hygiene practices. During hospitalization and especially in  the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), patients experience situations involving the need for personal hygiene, procedures performed on them due to limitations arising as a result of the ill condition. Bed bathing is an intervention that must be performed in critical patients with the aim of meeting personal hygiene  needs in critical patients, but it is necessary to carry out close monitoring and control to avoid side effects, such as hemodynamic status instability.  Objectives:: To determine the effect of bathing in bed with warm water on vital signs and oxygen saturation in adult patients attached with mechanical ventilators. Methods:: This study is a quasi-experimental study involving 18  samples determined by total sampling technique  based on inclusion criteria: Patients attached to mechanical ventilators, aged 18 years or older, stable in hemodynamics and exclusion criteria: Attached drugs for the heart, patients with head injuries, receiving drug therapy to lower body temperature. Results: The paired t-test results showed an effect between bathing in bed with warm water on systole blood pressure (p = 0.042; p < 0.005), breathing (p = 0.009), and pulse rate (p = 0.025). There was no effect between bathing in bed with warm water on diastole blood pressure (p = 0.063), body temperature (p = 0.862) and oxygen saturation (p = 0.120).  Conclusions : Bed bathing affects systolic blood pressure, breathing, pulse rate and has no effect on diastolic blood pressure, body temperature, and oxygen saturation. However, during bathing in bed should always pay attention to changes that occur in vital signs and oxygen saturation.

Abstract

Interprofessional education has been defined as a process learning program which includes learning outcomes, lecturers, material topics and skills enabling a synergistic influence of grouped student competence, so that interprofessional education becomes one of the initial stages for introducing collaboration and teamwork to students so that they can be applied of work. The explore the appropriateness and meaningfulness of Ethics and Health Law Course-based learning for nursing students. The research is a research and development design whose stages were carried out for 6 months with a research sample of 40 respondents, namely first semester students of the postgraduate nursing program. The results of this study showed that the significant for the materials of ethics, curriculum, learning outcomes (P=0.000). The students showed active participation, communication and good collaboration regarding health problem solving on handling non-communicable diseases. Management of interprofessional education (pretest = 54.32 and posttest mean 67.48) is needed in health education, as an approach to the learning process, includes the flexibility to respond to the specific (P=0.002), self-identified learning needs of students (P= 0.000). The results of the focus group discussion showed that knowing how to learn, having high expectations in problem solving, applying competencies to case tasks, collaborating with others, and being creative are all signs of a capable practitioner. There are important characteristics that determine the effectiveness of interprofessional education ethics courses, including faculty and students who consider their roles important to the team, open communication, autonomy, and equality of resources so that interprofessional education has a positive impact on the development of holistic care to improve the quality of patient care.

Abstract

Background: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurses are frequently exposed to high workloads resulting from elevated Bed Occupancy Rates (BOR) and the intensive care needs of patients with total dependency. These conditions increase the risk of physical and mental fatigue, which may compromise the quality of nursing care and patient safety. Purpose: To examine the association between BOR and patient dependency level with nurse fatigue in the ICU. Method: A quantitative approach, specially focusing on analytical survey and cross-sectional method. The study took place from April 2024 in Kanjeng Raden Mas Tumenggung Wongsonegoro Regional Hospital, Semarang. The independent variable was bed occupancy rate and patient dependency; dependent variable is nurse fatigue. Using total sampling, 81 respondents were selected with a split group of 29 ICU nurses to collect patients’ dependency level test, who met specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. The analysis proceeded with a univariate test to determine the frequency distribution of respondent’s characteristics, followed by bivariate analysis using Kendall Tau correlation. Results: Statistical analysis confirmed a significant correlation between BOR and nurse fatigue (p = 0.043), as well as between patient dependency and nurse fatigue (p = 0.048). Conclusion: The BOR and patient dependency rate were both key factors influencing fatigue among ICU nurses. These findings underscore the critical need for workload regulation informed by operational indicators to protect nurses' well-being and to uphold the quality of care in intensive settings.
