Abstract

Background: Anemia is a major cause of bleeding due to iron deficiency. Iron tablets which contain 60 mg of Ferrous Sulphate and 0.25 mg of folic acid did not show good results in changing the body’s iron level and there are many perceived side effects. However, there is now exists an oral iron tablets in the form of available salt compounds of ferrous fumarate, ferrous sulphate, and ferrous gluconate. These tablets contain iron hydroxide polymaltose complex (III) or better known as IPC (Iron Polymaltose Complex) and have minimal side effects. Aims: To understand the effect of IPC tablets in increasing the hemoglobin level in pregnant women with anemia. Methods: This study used quantitative study with pre-experimental design, or experiments that have not been applied in real terms. This study used non-probability sampling technique and purposive sampling for the selected sample. The sample were 35 people based on the inclusion criteria. The design used was one group pre-test – post-test approach without the control group. The subjects undertook the anemia examination on the first day (pre-test) and afterwards were administered 100mg IPC tablets daily for the next 30 days. In the end of the intervention, the subjects were re-examined and the results were compared (post-test). Results: The study showed that there is a significant increase of hemoglobin level in pregnant women with anemia with p value = 0.023 (p<0.05) after the intervention in the form of IPC tablet administration was conducted for 30 days. Conclusion: The intervention performed in administration of IPC tablets for pregnant women with anemia showed a significant increase of hemoglobin level before and after the provision of IPC tablets.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is influenced by lifestyle factors such as high fat intake which has the potential for high blood cholesterol level. Cocoa products, which are rich sources of flavonoids, have been shown to reduce blood pressure and the risk of cardiovascular disease.Aims: The purpose of this research is to examine the dark chocolate consumption in decreasing the level of blood cholesterol and triglyceride in hypertension patients. Methods: This research is a quasi-experiment study with pre and post and control group design. There were thirty two (32) hypertensive patients selected from Jatiroto Health Center in June-July 2018 using a random sampling technique. The respondents were then divided to (1) a control group where patients were prescribed to a popular non-pharmacological therapy Simvastatin and (2) an intervention group where the respondents were prescribed with Simvastatin and also received an additional dark chocolate 60gr/day (given twice a day, each 30gr) for 15 days. A spectrophotometer glycerol phosphate oxidase (GPO-POD) with 546 nm wavelength was employed to measure the levels of blood cholesterol and triglyceride. The significant mean difference between pre and posttest, and the changes between control and intervention group were defined by statistical analysis T-test.Results: This study acknowledged that the prescribed simvastatin alone presents a significant contribution to decrease the cholesterol level at 14.40 point (p value = 0.041), however, the generic is not enough to deliver a significant effect to the decrease of triglyceride level in the hypertension patients (p value = 0.361). A great contribution to the depression of cholesterol and triglyceride level in the hypertensive respondent was observed if simvastatin prescription was combined with a provision of 60 gram dark chocolate, respectively to the level of 57.06 and 38.41 mg/dL with p value = 0.001. The addition of dark chocolate in the simvastatin prescription will significantly reduce the blood cholesterol level (p value = 0.020), but not really effective to reduce the triglyceride (p value = 0.560).Conclusion: The findings suggest that giving dark chocolate to the hypertensive patients who receive simvastatin prescription will decrease the cholesterol and triglyceride levels greater than the consumption of simvastatin drugs alone. Keywords: Dark chocolate, Simvastatin, Hypertension, Cholesterol, Triglyceride

Abstract

Background: Wet cupping, furthermore mentioned cupping, decreases blood pressures through the level of negative air pressures added by hydrostatics filtration pressure to reinforce the power of fluids filtration in capillaries. However, an appropriate negative air pressure to decrease blood pressure remains an uncertainty.Purpose: This study aimed to analyze negative air pressure differences on cupping in decreasing blood pressures in hypertensive patients. Methods: This is a quasi-experimental design conducted in three Community Health Centers in Langsa City, Aceh, Indonesia. The samples were 36 hypertensive males with age from 45 to 55, who were randomly stratified into two groups with cupping pressures 400 mbar (n=18) as the control group; and 540 mbar (n=18) as the intervention group. The cupping session was performed to each group on T1 (alkahil) point and in the middle line of both shoulders blade points. The systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressures (DBP) were measured by validated automatic sphygmomanometer. The follow-up periods were one week and two weeks. The data were then analyzed by repeated measures ANOVA.Results: Cupping pressure of 400 mbar decreased the mean of SBP and DPB with a p-value of 0.450 and 0.026, respectively after two weeks of intervention. Meanwhile, cupping pressure of 540 mbar decreased the mean of SBP and DBP with a p-value of 0.006 and 0.057, respectively. Tests of within-subjects resulted in the p-value of 0.250 (SBP) and 0.176 (DBP) after two weeks of intervention. There were no significant differences in SBP and DBP between the intervention group and the control group. Conclusion: The cupping pressure between 400 mbar and 540 mbar could reduce blood pressure; however, the cupping pressure of 540 mbar yielded greater effect in decreasing blood pressure than the 400 mbar. Negative air vacuum pressure loads on cupping to decrease blood pressure should be considered between 400 to 540 mbar, and further studies are needed.

Abstract

Pregnant women with hypertension are the most dominant cause of maternal and neonatal mortality in midwifery services. Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) is a relaxation technique that can provide a relaxed feeling to overcome improve blood flow and reduce blood pressure. The study aimed to examine the effectiveness of giving SEFT to decrease blood pressure in the class of pregnant women with hypertension. A quasi-experimental, pre-test, and post-test with an equivalent control group was applied in this study. We selected 15 respondents using purposive sampling. The SEFT intervention was carried out at 12 points on the body for 1x / day with a duration of 30 minutes for 14 days. The results showed that patients in the experimental group have systolic blood pressure reduction of about 12 mmHg with p-value 0,00. The experimental group has diastolic blood pressure reduction about 12,8 mmHg with p-value 0.00. SEFT given at 12 body points 1x / day with 30 minutes' duration for 14 days proved effective in reducing blood pressure in the class of pregnant women with hypertension. Further research needs to examine SEFT so that other variables related to hypertensive pregnant women can be added by adding a biomarker examination such as Nitric Oxide (NO)
