Abstract

Postharvest Technology of information systems in Deli Serdang regency done manually, resulting in information storage and processing systems is ineffective and inefficient. In information management is still largely a result of human use role requires a relatively longer time. More than that, the information seekers-and decision-makers also have difficulty in obtaining the data they need. Therefore it is necessary for the further development of the information system. Web-based information system is considered to be a solution in order to access information faster, systematic and easy to use. For that designed a web-based information systems in the management of Postharvest Technology of information systems in Deli Serdang regency. Postharvest Technology information system is designed using PHP programming language, MySQL database and the method of system development lifecycle (SDLC). Abstract

Every year the need for paper continue to rise while the raw material from wood have been harder to find, therefore and the alternative of raw materials would be of plant fibers or fibrous waste such as empty fruit bunches of oil palm and paper waste. This research was aimed to study the characteristics of paper made from empty fruit bunch pulp and paper waste pulp. Therefore, a research had been conducted in May-June 2013. The making of paper was done at Jl. Roso No. 8 Delitua and the testing of paper was done in PT PDM Indonesia Laboratory, Medan North Sumatera using factorial randomized block design with one factor i.e. waste paper composition (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50%). Parameters observed were grammage, tensile and tearing strength. The results showed that the composition of the waste paper had highly significant effect on grammage and tensile strength. The resulting paper could be categorized as art paper with the best results obtained from the composition of 40% (120 g of oil palm empty fruit bunches and 80 g waste paper). Keywords: oil palm empty fruit bunches, waste paper, pulp composition, paper.

Abstract

Milling is done to powder food with a certain level of refinement to be more easily processed into other products. This study was conducted to test the capacity of the equipment using several commodities in multifucer grinder. Sorghum, soybeans, and rice were commodities to be tested to determine the effective capacity, the percentage of material not accommodated, and efficiency of the equipment. The results showed that the effective tool capacity was 19.48k/h for sorghum, 12.22k/h for soybean and 24.35 kg/h for rice. Percentage of material that was not accommodated was 7.33% for sorghum, 6.66% for soybean and 4,16% for rice. Appliance efficiency percentage was 92.66% for sorghum, 93.33% for soybean and 95.83% for rice. Keywords: Multifucer, Sorghum, Soybeans, Rice.

Abstract

The distribution system of water on the field of Suka Maju villages is done through tertiary canal (a soil canal). This can resulted in waterloss through evapotranspiration, percolation and seepage so that conveyance efficiency of water become so little. Therefor it’s needed to study about the system further more. This research was aimed to study the tertiary irrigation canal in the Suka Maju village Sei Krio Sunggal, Deli Serdang district. The result showed that in the field conveyance efficiency (at the same distance) was 68,39% for canal 1 and 95,92% for canal 2. Additionally the sedimentation was also found in the canal, so that it was important to redesign the dimensions of the tertiary canal. Thus the sedimentation as well as the scoured could be reduce. The best tertiary canal dimensions for canal 1 was a combination of 0,02% slope, canal width (B) of 0,42 m and the depth of water (D) of 0,21 m, while for canal 2 a combination of 0,02% slope, canal width (B) of  0,51 m and the depth of water (D) of  0,26 m. Key Words: Tertiary Canal, Waterloss, Conveyance Efficiency, Design of Canal.

Abstract

The decrease of fossil resources and increase population are very contradictive to energy consume for human life and social economy activity. So, alternative energy is needed which environment friendly by the use of plastic waste as fuel. This research as aimed to compare fuel from plastic (Polyethylene), cosmetic bottle (HDPE) and mineral water bottle (PET) with kerosene. This research was done in Agriculture Engineering Laboratory, and in Physical Chemistry Laboratory of  MIPA and Heat Engine Laboratory Faculty of Engineering in August 2014 until finish using completely randomized non factorial design with plastic (Polyethylene), cosmetic bottle (HDPE) and mineral water bottle (PET). The parameters analysed were yield, value of heat and viscosity. The results, showed that fuel nearly the same with kerosene was P2 (cosmetic bottle) with heat of 10.578,6 kcal/Kg and viscosity of 0,940 cP. Keywords : Plastic waste, Polyethylene, HDPE, PET

Abstract

Food processing by cooking needs a special technique to maintain the nutrition of the food. This research was aimed to measure the effective frying temperature in vacuum frying (vacuum pump type). This research was carried out at Agricultural Engineering Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture USU in March – April 2014 using non factorial randomized block design with five levels, i.e. 75oC, 80oC, 85oC, 90oC, and 95oC. Parameters observed were water content, loss of oil, organoleptic value, and economic analysis. The results showed that frying temperature had highly significant effects on water content, loss of oil, and organoleptic value, but it showed that there was no highly significant effect on taste. Economic analysis showed that investment with this equipment was non - profitable. Keywords: Snake Fruit, Temperature, Chips, and Vacuum Frying.

Abstract

This research was done to test the effect of grinder edge on the effective capacity of the equipment,  percentage of losses material, and percentage of yield. This research was using non factorial completely randomized design. It was found that the capacity of the equipment,  percentage of losses material, and percentage of yield on two grinder edge are 12,72 kg/hour, 7,00%, dan 93,00% respectively.  On three grinder edge are 16,44 kg/hour, 7,67%, dan 92,33% respectively. On four grinder edge are 16,01 kg/hour, 9,00% dan 91,00% respectively. Abstract

Drying is an important activity in pickling food presentation, as well as in agriculture product industry. The easiest and cheapest way to do drying is with sun light or sundrying. To overcome the sunlight limitation, a sunlight fish drying was had to guarantee the fish higenity. This research was aimed to test moisture content of pora-pora fish using fish dryer machine (cabinet type) and calculated the organoleptic value of the result.  This research had been conducted at agriculture engineering laboratory, faculty of agriculture USU in December 2014 until March 2015 using pora-pora fish. Parameters observed were moisture content and organoleptic test. The result of this research showed that the best moisture content was 29,17%, the best appearance 7,13 and the smell was 7,0. Keywords: Dryer fish machine (cabinet type), pora-pora fish
