Abstract

Background: The School Dental Health Efforts or Usaha Kesehatan Gigi Sekolah (UKGS) is a public health effort to maintain and improve the dental and oral health of elementary school students. UKGS is the strategy and the flagship of dental health in schools. The implementation of UKGS involves three elements, namely the Public Health Centre or Pusat Kesehatan Masyarakat (Puskesmas), schools, and parents. The three elements in UKGS are the driving force and restraining force, which greatly affect the quality of UKGS services. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze a strategy that can improve the quality of UKGS at Tabanan Puskesmas. Methods: This research used evaluative research and was analyzed by Kurt Lewin’s Force Field Analysis. Results: The driving forces that have the highest score are good knowledge, the skill of personnel, and guidelines for implementing the UKGS at Puskesmas; whereas the restraining forces that have the highest score are the unavailability of guidebooks and health teacher skills, as well as lack of budget for the UKGS activities. Conclusion: Strategies that can improve the quality of UKGS at Tabanan Puskesmas can be done by utilizing the facilities at the Puskesmas for the UKGS activities in schools, transmitting knowledge and skills from Puskesmas officers to the UKGS staff in schools, and increasing the budget by means of self-help.

Abstract

Introduction: Short children or commonly called stunting is a prevalent nutritional issue found among children globally. Indonesia has a notably high prevalence of stunting throughout the Southeast Asian region. Stunting malnutrition children will experience disturbances in the process of tooth growth, affecting the teeth during pre-eruption.  Aim to provide an overview of the impact of stunting malnutrition on dental health in children. Materials and Methods: This study uses the PRISMA method, with the steps: (1) Question framework (literature study); (2) Search for articles in databases (on Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar), and journal databases with articles published from 2020 to 2022; (3) Selection of relevant research; (4) Data extraction; (5) Synthesis with narrative method. Results and Discussions: The study obtained 7 articles to be reviewed, proving that stunting malnutrition children experienced delayed tooth eruption in 3 articles; 4 articles analyzing the impact of stunting malnutrition on dental caries; and experiencing unhealthy dental health status in 1 article. Abstract

Introduction: Dental and oral health of children in Indonesia remains concerning. In children aged 12 years, the prevalence of cavities reaches 76%. Motivation is closely related to efforts to maintain dental and oral health. There are various things that may be done to increase motivation including providing rewards. A reward is the recognition given to someone for something they have accomplished. Stimulating students' intrinsic motivation can be achieved by offering rewards. The purpose of this research is to examine of rewards as an innovative strategy for increasing efforts to brush teeth properly from children to families. Methods: This study is observational design with a one-group pretest-posttest using questionnaire and video instruments. The questionnaire contains questions related to brushing teeth properly. The research respondents consist of 106 school children from SD Saraswati 3 Denpasar. School children were also assigned to create videos of brushing their teeth together with their families. Rewards were given to three schoolchildren who demonstrated proper tooth brushing with their families. Data analysis used wilcoxon signed rank test to see the difference between pretest-posttest results after reward. Results and Discussions: Based on the research findings, there are significant changes in children's behavior in brushing their teeth properly. Children's behavior showed significant differences before and after the reward (p<0.05). Providing rewards during oral health education sessions children's interest increases. This is a positive method that has a beneficial impact on maintaining oral health, especially within the family. Abstract

Introduction: Early childhood dental caries (ECDC) is a major public health problem affecting up to 90% of children worldwide and is related to diet and nutrition.  Early childhood undernutrition, including fetal stunting, and stunting, is a global problem.  Undernutrition in neonatal stunting could be the cause associated with ECDC.  This scoping-review aims to understand the linkage mechanism behind neonatal stunting undernutrition to ECDC. This concept is expected to generate further research to help prevent both growth,   stunting undernutrition and ECDC. Review:  This study uses the PRISMA method, with the steps: (1) Question framework (literature study); (2) Search for articles in databases (on PubMed, ProQuest, Google Scholar), and journal data bases with articles published from 2017 to 2024; (3) Selection of relevant research; (4) Data extraction; (5) Synthesis with narrative method. The study obtained 5 articles to be reviewed, proving that pregnant women who experience chronic undernutrition (mainly deficiency of protein, vitamins A, B, C, D, E, minerals Fe, Ca, P and Zn), will contribute to giving birth to undernutrition stunting neonatal, with severe ECDC in 1 article; 1 articles analyzing the strong relationship between chronic neonatal stunting undernutrition with enamel hypoplasia, low quality and rate of saliva, an important cause of ECDC; and 3 article analyzing the neonatal stunting undernutrition is associated with severe ECDC. Conclusion:  Chronic undernutrition in pregnant women and subsequent neonatal stunting significantly contribute to the risk of severe ECDC.
