Abstract

PT X is a pulp production company. The company will be located in the province of North Kalimantan and will employ 1220 people. The activities of these employees will generate liquid waste that will pollute the receiving water body and harm human health if the liquid waste is not treated before being discharged into the environment. Therefore, in this design, a Domestic Wastewater Treatment Plant (DWWTP) design is carried out so that the liquid waste can be treated to meet the quality standards based on the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 68 of 2016. The method used in this planning is the desk study method, with the planning stages being the calculation of domestic wastewater discharge, the analysis of domestic wastewater quality, the determination of biological unit technology using the Weighted Ranking Technique method, the calculation of the dimensions of each treatment unit, and the drawing of the DWWTP scheme. Based on the calculation results, the maximum domestic wastewater discharge at PT X is 48 m3/day. The alternative biological units compared were the complete mix activated sludge (CMAS) unit, the trickling filter and the moving bed bioreactor (MBBR). The selected series of treatment units are grease trap, basket strainer, clarifier I, CMAS, clarifier II and disinfection tank.

Abstract

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), point 6, has the objective of ensuring access to clean water and sanitation. The planning of a drinking water treatment plant is an essential component of achieving Target 6.1, which aims to provide safe and affordable drinking water for all by 2030. However, the Pangalengan subdistrict in Bandung Regency is confronted with a significant challenge, as 56.67% of cattle farmers are engaged in the discharge of livestock waste into the Cisangkuy River. It is therefore imperative to plan the construction of a drinking water treatment plant in the Pangalengan subdistrict. The research method commences with a comparison of the results of raw water tests conducted on the Cisangkuy River, which are then contrasted with the stipulations set forth in Health Minister Regulation No. 2 of 2023. Subsequently, a population projection is conducted in order to ascertain the projected water demand. The projected water demand is 371.92 liters per second in 2032. Subsequently, the selection of treatment units is conducted using the Likert scale method. The analysis yielded the conclusion that the quality standards are exceeded by the parameters turbidity and coliform. The alternative units employed are the intake, barscreen, coagulation and flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection, and reservoir units.

Abstract

Rapid population growth in Indonesia, particularly in Karawang Regency, has put additional pressure on infrastructure and the environment, including an increase in the volume of domestic wastewater. This has led to water pollution, which poses a risk to public health, such as waterborne diseases. This issue is critical to efforts to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6, which targets access to adequate sanitation and sustainable water management. The local government of Karawang Regency, through the 2011-2031 Spatial Plan (RTRW) and the 2021-2026 Regional Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMD), plans to develop municipal wastewater treatment plants (IPAL) and sewerage systems in each district, including Purwasari District. The purpose of this study is to plan a domestic sanitation system in Purwasari District to reduce water pollution and improve access to adequate sanitation. The method used in this study is a scoring and weighting technique to assess the capacity of each parameter relevant to domestic sanitation. The results of the study show that Darawolong and Karangsari villages in Purwasari district are prioritised in the planning of the Local Domestic Sanitation System (SPALD-S) due to their higher urgency. The development of SPALD-S in these two villages is expected to bring long term benefits in terms of improved sanitation and environmental health for the local community.

Abstract

The prolonged drought and declining water quality that struck Garut Regency in 2024 caused serious problems in the supply of clean water, exacerbated by the continuously declining water quality, thus requiring strategic steps in water resource management. This research focuses on the planning of a water treatment plant (WTP) in Garut Kota subdistrict, the area with the largest population in Garut Regency. This research aims to plan a WTP. The raw water source used is from Cimanuk River with a discharge of 313 l/second. The method used begins with an analysis of the river water characteristics based on a comparison of the river water quality with the water quality standards set by the Minister of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2023, and to determine the projection of clean water demand, a 10-year population projection is calculated. The water quality of the Cimanuk River shows that the parameters of BOD and fecal coliform exceed the standard quality standards, so a water treatment process with a series of units is needed, starting from the raw water intake, through coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, to the final stage of disinfection. The maximum water demand is 164 l/s in 2034. The treatment results include BOD of 1.59 mg/L and Fecal Coliform of 0.0178 CFU/100ml; these values indicate that the treatment results meet the quality standards.

Abstract

Lembursitu Subdistrict is one of the areas in Sukabumi City that often experiences flooding, especially during the high-intensity rainy season. This study aims to determine the priority of flood management in six affected locations spread across four villages. Priority assessment was carried out using a weighting method based on six parameters listed in the Minister of Public Works Regulation No. 12 of 2014, namely flood height, flood area, flood duration, flood frequency, economic losses, social and government facility disruptions, transportation losses and disruptions, housing losses, and private property losses. The research data was obtained through field surveys, community interviews, and secondary data from relevant agencies in Sukabumi City. The weighting results showed that the location with the highest priority for handling was L6 (Jl Raya Palabuhan II) with a score of 297.5, followed by L5 (Jl Merdeka) and L1 (Jl Merdeka). These three locations have a major impact on social, economic, transportation, and public service facility activities. These findings provide a basis for local governments to determine more effective flood management strategies, particularly through increasing drainage capacity, channel normalization, and the implementation of a sustainable eco-drainage-based flood control system.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries with high beef consumption and production, resulting in large amounts of bone waste, especially rib bones, every year. This bone waste is generally not optimally utilized and has the potential to cause environmental problems. In fact, cow bones, including ribs, contain a high-value mineral compound called hydroxyapatite (Ca₁₀(PO₄)₆(OH)₂). Hydroxyapatite is an inorganic compound with a crystal structure and composition similar to human bone and tooth tissue, making it a highly potential material in the biomedical field, especially as a raw material for dentures, bone implants, and bone fillers. Through environmentally friendly technological approaches such as the hydrothermal method, bone waste can be processed to extract pure hydroxyapatite. This process involves heat and pressure treatment in a closed device that can remove organic components without damaging the mineral structure. The synthesized hydroxyapatite has a composition and crystal structure similar to human hard tissue, making it highly potential for use as a base material in medical applications, especially for dental prostheses.

Abstract

Food waste management is a global challenge that encourages the application of the circular economy concept through resource reuse. Chicken eggshell waste has the potential to be used as a renewable source of calcium, while hydrothermal processing is a promising method for converting it into value-added products. This study aims to map the development of hydrothermal processing research on chicken eggshell waste through a bibliometric analysis of 75 Scopus-indexed publications from 2019 to 2024. The results of the analysis show that China is the country with the highest number of publications. Co-authorship analysis identified 27 collaborating authors, with Zhang, X., Yin, J., and Wang, I. as the main authors. The most dominant keywords were “hydroxyapatite,” “hydrothermal method,” and “calcium.” This study shows that hydrothermal research focuses on the development of calcium-based biomaterials and nanomaterials and opens up opportunities for further research on the sustainable use of chicken eggshell waste.
