Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of mangrove forest ecotourism on the well-being of the fishing community in Kampung Nelayan, Langsa City, Indonesia. Mangrove forests offer both ecological and economic advantages, making their preservation vital. Ecotourism is presented as an alternative means to utilize these ecosystems, particularly in Kuala Langsa Village. Using qualitative research and IPA analysis, the study explores the factors that both support and hinder ecotourism development in this area. The strengths identified include sustainable conservation efforts and the backing of local government and agencies. However, weaknesses such as limited tourist facilities and oversight slow progress. Opportunities arise from new tourist destinations, though challenges such as inadequate infrastructure and competition within the tourism sector persist. The research underscores the importance of conserving mangrove ecosystems, advocating for sustainable practices and increased local authority support. Overcoming infrastructure hurdles is critical to enhancing mangrove ecotourism’s success in Langsa City.

This study aims to analyze the impact of healthcare workforce, educational infrastructure, and non-food per capita expenditure on the Human Development Index (HDI) in Humbang Hasundutan Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Using time-series data from 2005 to 2022 and applying multiple linear regression analysis through SPSS 26, the research finds that both healthcare workforce and educational infrastructure significantly and positively influence the HDI. However, non-food per capita expenditure does not exhibit a significant effect on the HDI. These findings suggest that improvements in healthcare and education are pivotal in driving human development in the region. Policymakers are advised to focus on strengthening these key sectors to ensure sustained socio-economic growth. The study contributes to the existing literature on human development by providing region-specific insights and emphasizes the importance of tailored policy interventions for improving HDI at a local level.

Abstract

Sustainable agriculture is an important factor in preserving sustainable development in an area. Red chili is a commodity that has a strategic role in the agricultural sector. This research aims to measure the endemic index in the red chili agribusiness system in North Sumatera Province. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews involving farmers, marketers, extension workers, and local governments using five dimensions of climbing. The data analysis method used was Multi-Dimensional Scaling (MDS), called RAP-Chili (Rapid Appraisal for Chili). The results show that the combined index for the red chili agribusiness system in this province is quite sustainable, with an index value of 58.94. Only one dimension is included in the high desire index level (78.35), namely the environmental dimension. Meanwhile, the other four dimensions are at the level of the quite desirable category, namely the economic dimension (52.82), the socio-cultural dimension (57.30), the partnership dimension (54.24), and the institutional dimension (51.98). Overall performance can be improved by making improvements in each dimension. Therefore, policy planning for developing the red chili agribusiness system must improve weak indicators and impact existing dimensions. Environmental aspects regarding land suitability, climate, and fertility must continue to be improved, considering that agriculture in Indonesia is still very dependent on natural resource factors.

Abstract

Flooding is one of the environmental problems that often occur in Medan City due to rapid urban development and land use change. This research aims to analyse the spatial distribution of flood vulnerability in Medan City based on the parameters of land use, slope, soil type, geology, distance from river and rainfall. The methods used in this research include Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis and weighting of flood vulnerability parameters using the scoring method. The data used included Sentinel 2 imagery for land use, DEM data for slope, CHRIPS for rainfall and SHP data for soil type and geology. The spatial distribution of flood vulnerability in Medan City shows a concentration in the southwest and central parts of the city. The spatial distribution of flood vulnerability is mostly at the high - very high vulnerability level, namely in the Belawan Sicanang area of 1,047.07 ha. high vulnerability level, namely in the Belawan Sicanang area of 1,047. 07 ha with a percentage of 12%, Martubung village area of 1,032 ha with a percentage of 11%, Kelurahan Besar area of 1,013 ha with a percentage of 11% and Pekan Labuhan village area of 1,022 ha with a percentage of 11%.
