Abstract

Background: Melasma is hyperpigmentation of the skin especially located on face exposed to the sunlight. This condition was characterized by brown to gray-brown macula with irregular border. Difficulties in treatment of melasma arise from high tendency for relapse, expensive cost, and high risk of side effects such as erythema, sores, scales, and acne eruption. Study about evaluation of melasma therapy in Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital Bandung have not ever been done before. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate therapy of melasma in the Policlinic of Dermatology and Venereology, Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital Bandung.Methods: This study was retrospectively descriptive. Data were obtained from the new melasma patient medical records of Policlinic of Dermatology and Venereology of Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital Bandung in period of January 2013–2014. Sampling method used in this study was total sampling. Treatments of melasma were evaluated by using Melasma Area Severity Index (MASI) score. Collected data were processed and presented in frequency distribution and percentage.Results: The most used topical drugs were combination of hydroquinone and tretinoin, and all of patients received sunblock. Most frequent time interval was two weeks (30.8%). The most common side effect was erythema (10 out of 22). Decreased MASI score was discovered in 48.1% and the most decreased category was mild (14 out of 25). Conclusions: The very common topical drugs used are hydroquinone and tretinoin. The side effect of the treatment is Erythema. The decreased MASI score is mild. [AMJ.2016;3(4):610–5]DOI: 10.15850/amj.v3n4.947

Abstract

Indonesia merupakan negara yang mengalami kenaikan kejadian obesitas, hipertensi dan diabetes setiap tahunnya. Keadaan ini membuat meningkatnya prevalensi sindrom metabolik. Sindrom metabolik adalah kombinasi dari sejumlah kondisi, yaitu hipertensi, hiperglikemia, hiperkolesterolemia, hipertrigliserida dan peningkatan ukuran lingkar perut. Asupan energi dan pola makan yang berlebihan, peningkatan kejadian obesitas, aktivitas fisik sedentari dan riwayat risiko penyakit menjadi faktor resiko sejumlah kondisi penyebab terjadinya sindom metabolik. Kabupaten Pangandaran merupakan salah satu daerah pesisir pantai di Provinsi Jawa Barat yang secara demografis dimungkinkan tingginya konsumsi garam yang dapat memicu hipertensi. Pola makan dan aktivitas fisik yang tidak baik bagi kesehatan serta rendahnya tingkat pengetahuan dan kesadaran tentang bahaya sindrom metabolik memengaruhi jumlah kejadian sindrom metabolik. Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan sebagai upaya preventif melalui pengisian kuisioner untuk mengetahui pola makan dan aktivitas fisik masyarakat kecamatan Cijulang Kabupaten Pangandaran serta pengukuran lingkar perut untuk mengetahui prevalensi resiko terjadinya sindrom metabolik. Dari 544 responden rata-rata berusia 30 tahun, 129 orang mempunyai lingkar perut yang tidak normal, 47% mengkonsumsi manis setiap hari 32% mengkonsumsi asin setiap hari dan 56% tidak olahraga setiap hari.

Abstract

Remaja merupakan kelompok sasaran edukasi kesehatan yang memiliki potensi untuk mengubah pola hidup masyarakat menjadi lebih sehat, salah satunya melalui pola makan yang sehat. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan melalui kolaborasi antara akademisi, dunia usaha dan pengelola komunitas untuk memberikan pengetahuan pada siswa tingkat SMA/SMK sederajat. Pemberian materi dilakukan secara daring dengan evaluasi yang dilakukan dengan metode pre-test dan post-test. Rerata nilai pre-test dan post-test pada peserta secara berurutan adalah 62,5 dan 75,18. Kategorisasi penilaian pengetahuan peserta berubah secara signifikan antara pre- dan post-test, pada kelompok “baik” dari 11 menjadi 30 orang dan kelompok “kurang” dari 19 menjadi 3 orang. Pemberian pengetahuan pada remaja memberikan perubahan yang signifikan pada pengetahuan dan diharapkan dapat mengubah sikap dan perilaku sehingga memberikan dampak yang baik di masyarakat.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keragaman makanan, serta makanan sumber makronutrien (protein, karbohidrat, dan lemak) pada pasien TB Paru berdasarkan data Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS-5). Penelitian ini menggunakan desain deskriptif potong lintang dengan data sekunder dari IFLS-5 tahun 2014-2015. Subjek penelitian adalah seluruh responden yang pernah terdiagnosisi TB, diperoleh melalui total sampling. Keragaman makanan dihitung menggunakan Individual Dietary Diversity Score (IDDS) sesuai panduan FAO, dengan 10 kelompok pangan. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif dengan menggunakan SPSS. Sebanyak 273 responden dianalisis, dengan mayoritas berjenis kelamin laki-laki (54,6%) dan median usia 38 tahun. Konsumsi makanan didominasi oleh karbohidrat, terutama nasi (88% dikonsumsi setiap hari). Konsumsi sumber protein terbanyak berasal dari ikan (23%), sedangkan konsumsi daging relatif rendah (6%). Sayuran hijau dikonsumsi harian oleh 32% responden. Sebagian besar responden (93%) memiliki skor DDS <6, dengan median skor 2. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa keragaman makanan pada pasien TB Paru masih rendah dan didominasi oleh karbohidrat. Diperlukan edukasi gizi dan intervensi berbasis pangan untuk meningkatkan kualitas diet pasien TB guna mendukung keberhasilan terapi.

Abstract

Association between plant-based diet and metabolic syndrome: a pilot study on Bandung plant-based diet communityBackground: Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of disorders related to cardiometabolic abnormalities that are experienced by two out of five people in Indonesia. Miscellaneous factors increase the risk of metabolic syndrome, including improper diet. Plant-based diets are expected to lower the risk of metabolic syndrome.Objective: The study investigated the association between a plant-based diet and metabolic syndrome.Methods: A cross-sectional study design was conducted on 60 subjects, consisting of 20 subjects who applied the plant-based diet and 40 subjects who did not apply the plant-based diet. Visceral fat rating, body mass index, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, and HDL were also measured to identify the amount of metabolic syndrome indicators that occurred in each subject. Data was analyzed using a parametric independent sample t-test, non-parametric Mann-Whitney U, and Chi-Square tests.Results: Non-parametric test analysis in fasting blood glucose showed a significant result (p=0.022), but not in other metabolic syndrome indicators, as well as the Chi-Square test (p=1.000).Conclusions: This study found no association between a plant-based diet and metabolic syndrome.

Abstract

Latar belakang. Obesitas merupakan masalah yang harus menjadi perhatian pada remaja akhir. Obesitas memiliki berbagai dampak terhadap aspek kesehatan, psikologis dan sosial. Salah satu faktor risiko obesitas adalah perawakan pendek, tetapi hingga saat ini hubungannya masih belum diketahui secara jelas khususnya pada kelompok remaja akhir.Tujuan. Mengetahui hubungan perawakan pendek dengan obesitas pada remaja akhir di Kecamatan Jatinangor.Metode. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain potong lintang secara luring dari bulan Agustus - September 2022 di 4 sekolah tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas dan sederajat di Kecamatan Jatinangor. Variabel independen adalah tinggi badan, karakteristik subjek, pola makan dan aktivitas fisik. Variabel dependen adalah obesitas, yang ditetapkan berdasarkan nilai Z-score Indeks Massa Tubuh menurut Umur >2 deviasi standar. Analisis dilakukan dengan uji chi-square, fisher exact dan korelasi spearman. Nilai p dianggap bermakna apabila p<0,05.Hasil. Penelitian melibatkan 208 subjek, 27(13%) subjek memiliki perawakan pendek dan 21(10,1%) subjek mengalami obesitas. Analisis bivariat menunjukkan tidak terdapat hubungan antara perawakan pendek dan obesitas (p=0,323), tetapi terdapat korelasi positif tinggi badan dengan IMT (p=0,021, r=0,159). Variabel yang memiliki hubungan bermakna dengan obesitas pada remaja akhir adalah aktivitas fisik (p=0,017).Kesimpulan. Penelitian ini menunjukkan pada remaja akhir perawakan pendek tidak berhubungan dengan obesitas. Faktor yang memengaruhi obesitas pada remaja akhir adalah aktivitas fisik.

Abstract

Sumedang still struggles with a stunting problem; based on the 2022 Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI), the percentage of stunted children in Sumedang is the highest among all cities in West Java. Health Cadres have a very potential role in stunting prevention from an early age, providing education about the importance and selection of healthy and balanced nutrition food during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and the utilization of alternative food ingredients to improve the quality of nutrition in family food when conducting activities carried out at the Posyandu. This activity aims to enhance health cadres' knowledge through nutrition and stunting education and encourage the utilization of eggshell flour in creating family food innovations to prevent stunting from an early age. This activity uses pre-test and post-test questionnaires for measuring cadres’ knowledge about balanced nutrition and stunting prevention and a food creation competition based on eggshell flour, which is evaluated based on five criteria: creativity, nutritional facts, taste, texture, and presentation/serving. This activity effectively enhanced the knowledge regarding balanced nutrition and stunting prevention, as indicated by a significant increase in the average score before and after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.005. Furthermore, the food creation competition demonstrated the substantial potential of eggshell flour in preparing a diverse range of nutritious family food, including both savory and sweet dishes/snacks. This activity improved health cadres' knowledge and expanded the variety of healthy food through the innovative utilization of eggshell flour.

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the molecular pathway of the cytotoxic effect of SN-38 in human cervical cancer cell lines.Methods: Two human cervical cancer cell lines were treated with various concentrations of irinotecan for 24–72 hours and the sensitivity was analysed using the MTT assay. Apoptosis was further observed through microscopic examinations. The protein expression was determined using Western blot analysis.  Results: CaSki cells demonstrated the highest sensitivity to SN-38, whereas HeLa cells showed the lowest. In cervical cancer cells, SN-38 induced apoptosis through an intrinsic- and extrinsic-pathways. In addition, we showed that SN-38 downregulated the phosphorylation of Akt-mTOR pathways in CaSki cells, but not in HeLa cells. Interestingly, in HeLa cells, which were more suggestive of a resistant phenotype, pre-treatment with LY294002 and rapamycin inhibited activation of Akt-mTOR signaling and significantly enhanced the sensitivity of HeLa cells to SN-38. Conclusions: Irinotecan exerts its anti-neoplastic effects on cervical cancer cells by inducing apoptosis through caspase-cascade. Inhibition of Akt-mTOR, LY294002 and rapamycin, which is targeted to Akt-mTOR pathways, may sensitize irinotecan-resistant cervical cancer cells.Keywords: Akt-mTOR pathways anti-neoplastic drugs, cervix cancer cells, LY294002, rapamycin DOI: 10.15850/ijihs.v1n1.103

Abstract

The aim of this study is to develop and assess the validity of the Iron-Food Frequency Questionnaire (Iron-FFQ) in assessing the iron intake of reproductive age women. This cross-sectional study involved randomly selected female undergraduate students at Jantinangor, Sumedang district, West Java (n=94) as respondents. The validity test compared the iron intake using Iron-FFQ with the 3-Days Food Diary (FD). The iron contents of each food from both methods were obtained from Indonesian Food Composition Table (2017). Iron contents were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed rank test and Spearman’s rank correlation. The results showed significant correlation in iron content between Iron FFQ and the 3 Days FD with r=0.25 for the tubers, nuts, and vegetables group, and r=0.21 for milk and fish (p<0.05). While, statistically non-significant correlations were found for the rest of the food groups (cereal, meat, poultry, eggs, fruits, fats, sugar, syrup, confectionary, and spices) with r ranged from r=0.19 to r=0.01. The average assessment value using Iron-FFQ was lower than the 3-Days Food Diary, especially in the food and beverages group (-100%), sugar, syrup, and confectionary (-93.8%), and vegetables (-88.5%). In conclusion, Iron-FFQ can be declared valid for measuring iron intake from some food group such as starchy tubers, fish, shellfish and shrimp, nuts, vegetables, and milk as they have an acceptable correlation value.
