Abstract

The mortality rate for pregnant women due to preeclampsia is still quite high in Indonesia in general and Bengkulu province in particular. There is no effective method to prevent preeclampsia, but early detection can help for proper treatment. Monitoring the condition of pregnancy is very important but the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented pregnant women to go to health facilities. Therefore, a pregnancy condition monitoring system was designed for early detection of preeclampsia using the android-based Certainty Factor method. The system designed consists of a blood pressure measuring device and an expert system. The device uses an MPX5500 pressure sensor, highpass Butterworth filter and an Arduino connected to an android smartphone via Bluetooth. The expert system will diagnose that pregnant women are at risk of preeclampsia or hypertension in pregnancy without the risk of preeclampsia. The blood pressure measuring  device works with an average difference to the aneroid sphygmomanometer of 7.05 mmHg with an error of 6.24% at systolic pressure and 10.15 mmHg with an error of 13.13% at diastolic pressure. Abstract

Breast cancer is a hormone-dependent disease that relies on the mitogenic effect ofestrogen to increase tumorigenesis and tumor growth. Clinically significant levels ofestrogen-α receptor (ERα) expression are seen in 80% of human breast cancers, whereas progesterone receptor is expressed in 55% of human breast cancers. Thesedata are one of the bases for the development of endocrine therapy. Endocrinetherapy is therapy that targets the pathway and synthesis of estrogen, by blocking itvia receptors, reducing circulating levels of estrogen, or suppressing estrogensynthesis in the tissues of women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Abstract

More than two years have lasted since the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. The case of Covid-19 in Indonesia has spread to all provinces and areas such as Bengkulu City. This study aims to determine the profile of clinical manifestations and antibody dynamics in Covid-19 patients in Bengkulu City. This study used a cohort design on Covid-19 patients at two Bengkulu City referral hospitals, M. Yunus Hospital and Harapan dan Doa Hospital. Data on clinical manifestations were obtained from the medical records of Covid-19 patients. Meanwhile, to determine the level of IgM and IgG antibodies, patient serum samples were taken directly from respondents from the beginning of hospital admission three times on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd weeks. Then the samples were examined by immunofluorescent assay method. The results of this study indicate that, in general, there are no significant differences in anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG levels in Covid-19 patients in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd weeks of Covid-19 in Bengkulu City. The Spearman correlation test also showed no correlation between IgG levels and the clinical manifestations of Covid-19. Although not statistically significant, there was a trend towards differences in antibody levels in patients with mild, moderate and severe clinical manifestations. The results of this study indicate that there are variations in antibody dynamics in Covid-19 patients in Bengkulu City.

Abstract

Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic remains a global issue, including in Indonesia. Handwashing using soap can reduce the viral load of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and prevent coinfection, which can worsen symptoms in COVID-19 patients. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and handwashing behavior to the severity of COVID-19. Research using a cross-sectional and retrospective approach was conducted from July to December 2020 in Bengkulu Province. About 107 respondents had been confirmed positive for Covid-19 with the rt-PCR test, aged 17-60 years, and were willing to participate. Knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors were assessed using validated questionnaires and data on the severity of disease obtained from epidemiological forms. The collected data were then analyzed using chi-square statistical tests. 107 respondents had already filled in the questionnaires. The Chi-square test showed no significant association between knowledge (p 0.081), attitude (p 0.216), and behavior (p 0.136) of handwashing to the severity of COVID-19. A good level of knowledge, attitudes and behaviors about handwashing using soap did not adequately affect the severity of covid-19 patients. The good level of knowledge, attitude, and practice of HWUS were not significant enough to affect the severity of the COVID-19 disease.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Intestinal microbial dysbiosis and its metabolites can affect the immune activity of intestinal mucosal cells, causing insulitis and pancreatic β-cell death. Probiotic Lactobacillus acidophilus plays an important role in reducing inflammatory cytokines, hence improves oxidative stress that affects pancreatic β-cell apoptosis. Current study examined the feature of pancreatic histopathology affected by the administration of probiotic L. acidophilus in rats with type-1 diabetes mellitus (DM) induced by streptozotocin (STZ).METHODS: Twelve rats were induced by STZ at double dose of 50 mg/kgBB before administered with probiotic L. acidophilus at a dose of 1.5x10 8 or 1.5x10 9 CFU/mL/day, while other 4 rats were used as control. After 21 days of the L. acidophilus treatment, the average of fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels of rats were measured, then the pancreatic histopathology was assessed to evaluate the degree of insulitis in islet of Langerhans.RESULTS: The induction of STZ had been succeeded to increase blood glucose levels, which indicate DM condition. The highest FBG level after 21 days of treatment was found in DM group with glucose level of 512±81.51 mg/dL. The administration of probiotic L. acidophilus during 21 days treatment at both dose 1.5x10 8 and 1.5x10 9 CFU/mL/day significantly improved pancreatic histopathology (p=0.04 and p=0.034, respectively), with significant decrease on insulitis scores compared to DM group.CONCLUSION: The administration of L. acidophilus at both dose of 1.5x10 8 and 1.5x10 9 CFU/mL/day for 21 days can improve pancreatic histopathology of type-1 DM rats induced by STZ, therefore probiotic L. acidophilus may be potential as supplementation treatment for type-1 DM.KEYWORDS: Lactobacillus acidophilus, pancreatic histopathology, streptozotocin, type-1 diabetes mellitus

Abstract

The infectious disease COVID-19 caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus can infect all age groups. The symptoms that arise can vary from no symptoms to severe and critical symptoms. Differences in clinical symptoms can occur due to differences in the distribution, maturation and function of the SARS-CoV-2 virus receptors. These clinical symptoms will determine the severity of COVID-19. This study aims to analyze the relationship between age and clinical symptoms and the severity of COVID-19 in Bengkulu Province in 2020. This study used an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. Samples were taken using a consecutive sampling technique and a total of 109 subjects were obtained who were COVID-19 patients in Bengkulu Province from March to December 2020. Assessment of clinical symptoms used COVID-19 epidemiological investigations. The degree of severity is determined based on the Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19 by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. The relationship between the two variables was analyzed using the Spearman Rank test. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant relationship between the age factor of COVID-19 patients in determining the severity of COVID-19 (p=0.000; p <0.05).
