Abstract

The increasing utilization of social media has revolutionized health communication, providing a rapid platform for the dissemination of information and public health advocacy. This study explores the impact of social media in enhancing public health advocacy and increasing public health awareness. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach that combines qualitative and quantitative content analysis, the research findings indicate that: (1) Visually appealing materials, such as infographics and brief videos, are most effective in capturing attention and fostering user engagement for health advocacy purposes. (2) The study also reveals that key elements contributing to the success of health-related social media campaigns include: (a) the power of engaging storytelling, (b) fostering community engagement, and (c) the strategic application of hashtags for wider reach. (3) Leveraging sentiment analysis, we observed a significant positive correlation between the level of positive engagement on social media and the increase in public health awareness.

Abstract

The development of information technology, especially social media, has dramatically changed the journalism landscape. This study aims to analyze changes in the work process of journalists and news distribution and their implications for information integrity. Using a qualitative case study methodology with a narrative analysis approach, this research collected data through in-depth interviews with journalists and content analysis of news reports published on social media. The results indicate a significant shift in news gathering, filtering, and presentation, where speed often precedes depth of analysis. This suggests that social media has caused a change from investigative journalism to instant journalism that emphasizes speed over depth. The findings highlight a decline in fact verification and an increased risk of spreading inaccurate information. Based on these results, this study recommends developing stricter ethical guidelines and training for journalists in handling the pressures of news distribution on social media, as well as implementing new technologies that can support real-time verification of facts to strengthen the integrity of information.

Abstract

Global issues related to Friday sermons include the potential spread of radical ideology, extremism, and discriminatory messages, which can contribute to social inequality and conflict. Additionally, the lack of education and awareness in sermons may affect the understanding of religious teachings and global issues, leading to knowledge gaps and social divisions. Despite these concerns, few studies have specifically analyzed the components of arguments used in Friday sermons in the City. This study aims to describe the components of arguments in Friday sermons in Makassar City. The method used in this research uses qualitative research methods in the form of discourse analysis methods carried out in 5 districts, namely Bontoala, Mamajang, Panakkukang, Rappocini, and Tamalate in Makassar City. A purposive sampling technique was used to obtain a sample of 15 respondents. The data collection technique was done by recording the sermon directly. The results showed six components used to construct arguments in Friday sermons in Makassar, including claim, data, warrant, backing, modal qualifier, and rebuttal. The study's results are expected to improve the ability of the preachers in charge of Friday prayers to utilize various argument components in each sermon delivered. In addition, using components with creative techniques is important to attract the attention of the Friday congregation.

Abstract

Stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in urban communities continues to be a significant issue despite advances in information and health services. Although better access to information can reduce prejudice, negative myths and stereotypes about HIV remain deeply rooted in society. This study reveals how stigma against PLWHA in large cities in Indonesia is influenced by moral narratives that associate HIV with deviant behavior, exacerbating unfounded fears about transmission. Limited knowledge about how HIV is transmitted, as well as often sensationalist media representations, further reinforce social discrimination against PLWHA. In addition to explicit discrimination, structural discrimination in the health sector and the workplace worsens the living conditions of PLWHA, hinders access to medical care and exacerbates socio-economic inequalities. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature review to explore the social construction of stigma and discrimination against PLWHA in urban areas. Through thematic analysis of various secondary sources, it is found that a more inclusive and culturally based approach is needed to address stigma, including campaigns that actively involve the community and improve more equitable policies. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of stigma as well as recommendations for public policies that are more oriented towards social justice and human rights for PLWHA.

Abstract

Background: The increasing complexity of health crises in the digital era has heightened the need for effective communication strategies that not only inform but also build trust. Political Public Relations (Political PR) has emerged as a central actor in framing public understanding and shaping behavior in response to government-led health campaigns. Purpose: This study explores how Political PR strategies are utilized in digital health communication to influence public trust and engagement. Methods: Employing a qualitative-comparative method, this research analyzes two case studies—Indonesia and Country X—focusing on the effectiveness, framing, and ethical dimensions of Political PR campaigns. Results: The findings reveal that Political PR strategies that emphasize credibility, transparency, and interactive communication, especially those involving health experts, tend to foster stronger public engagement. Platforms like Instagram and YouTube are more effective than text-heavy media such as Twitter, particularly when messages are framed empathetically and supported by trusted sources. However, ethical challenges such as misinformation, political bias, and the use of non-expert influencers pose risks to public trust. Conclusion: The study highlights the critical need for campaigns to integrate evidence-based messaging, collaborative communication, and ethical standards. Implications: This research contributes to both theoretical and practical understandings of Political PR in health communication by offering insights on strategy development, public trust dynamics, and platform effectiveness. The findings are expected to guide future political communication efforts during public health emergencies in digital contexts.

Abstract

The high rate of malnutrition in Indonesia, especially stunting in children, is caused by economic constraints, lack of nutrition education, and limited access to health services, which have an impact on children's growth, cognitive development, and academic achievement. The success of primary school nutrition improvement programs is influenced by factors such as community involvement, policy support, and parents' and teachers' understanding of nutrition, although they still face implementation challenges that need to be overcome for long-term effectiveness. This research method uses a quantitative approach with surveys and statistical analysis to examine the factors that affect the success of the nutrition improvement program in grade 1 elementary school students in three schools in Purworejo District. With 106 respondents, data were analyzed using Pearson correlation, and linear regression through SPSS 27. The results of the t-test showed that the factors that affect the success of the nutrition improvement program have a significant influence on the success of the program (t count = 5.164; Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05). In addition, the results of the F test (F count = 26.666; Sig. = 0.000) confirmed that the regression model used was statistically significant so that the independent variables together affected the success of the program. The success of school nutrition programs relies on collaboration between parents, teachers, schools, and the government to improve nutritional knowledge and food availability. Policy support, including healthy food subsidies and training, is essential for ensuring the program's long-term sustainability.
