Abstract

Peat swamp forest has a valuable natural richness in the form of plants. This study aimed to find out the composition and dominance of species, species diversity, and stand structure in secondary peat swamp forest and thicket swamp. The vegetation analysis in secondary peat swamp forest and thicket swamp is done by using combination method. Mentibu (Daetylocladus stenostachys Oliver) is dominant in secondary peat swamp forest of tree growth level, and mempening (Quercus conocarpa OUD) is dominant in pole, sapling, and seedling of growth level (INP = 34,74%, 32,57%, 28,96%, respectively). In thicket swamp, prepat (Combretocarpus rotundatus Danser) is a dominant for the whole of growth level (INP = 261.89%, 126,12%, 98.96%, 64.99%, respectively). The diversity index of Shannon-Wienner (H’) in secondary peat swamp forest is abundant (H’ > 1) and low in thicket swamp (H’ < 1). The secondary peat swamp forest have a normal stand structure according to de Liocourt’s law. In thicket swamp, the forest had been fire, but the vegetation development now has led to a succession of normal vertical forest structure and almost reach climax. Keywords: Peat swamp forest, composition and dominance of species, species diversity and stand structure.

Abstract

Agarwood grows well if they are planted using appropriate technique. The research work aimed at finding information on the growth of Agarwood (Aquilaria spp) by giving mulching and shades on ultisol soil. This research work employed split plot design using a randomized block design consisting of types of shade (N) as main plot, mulching (M) as additional plot and the treatment was done for three times. The parameter being observed was height, diameter, number of leaves, and life expectancy of Agarwood. Shade factor consisted of three types; namely open shade (N1), paranet 60% (N2) and natural shade (N3). Mulching consisted of two types; without mulching (M0) and mulching (M1). The research findings showed that mulching (M1) had a significant effect on height, diameter, and leaves of Agarwood (Aquilaria spp). In addition, paranet 60% (N2) gave a very significant effect on life expectancy and had significant effect on diameter and leaves of Agarwood. Natural shade (N3) treatment impacted significantly on life expectancy of Agarwood while open shade treatment also had a significant impact on leaves of Agarwood. Paranet 60% and mulching (N2M1) treatment suggested a good growth on Agarwood. Keywords: Agarwood, growth, mulching, shade, and ultisol

Abstract

In order to preserve jelutung plants, the Regional Government of Singkawang City has planted 38 trees in the Pasir Panjang area of Singkawang City. The purpose of this study: (1) to study the association of jelutung plants (Dyera spp) on those planted in Pasir Panjang Singkawang, (2) to determine the number of spores and their correlation with tree diameter, (3) to determine the FMA genus contained in the rhizosphere, and (4) percentage of root colonization to determine the level of association of AMF with jelutung plants. The study was conducted by survey method for sampling soil and roots of jelutung plants. Data were collected and analyzed in the form of the average number of spores, genus AMF and the percentage of infections in the roots of jelutung plants. The results of the research that has been done can be concluded that jelutung plants (Dyera spp) that grow in sandy habitats in the Pasir Panjang area of Singkawang City are associated with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (FMA). The results of spore calculations found in jelutung rhizosphere in sandy soil habitats are quite abundant with amounts ranging from 436 1279,67/100g of soil. The results of correlation analysis with the coefficient of determination r2 = 0,0169 showed no close relationship between diameter size and the number of spores in the jelutung rhizosphere of sandy soils. From the results of spore calculations, the genus Glomus sp found in the jelutung (Dyera spp) rhizosphere was 874,33 / 100 g of soil (96,8%), while the genus Gigaspora sp was only 23,97 / 100 g of land (2,6%), and Scutellospora sp only 5,50 / 100 g of soil (0,6%). Based on the calculation of the percentage of infections that occur at the root, it turns out that jelutung plants are included as a high level association with the percentage of infections ranging from 8,7 - 100% or being in grade 5.Keywords: Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF), Jelutung Plants, Number of Spores, Percentage of Root Infection.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to find abundance of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) at each depth of plant E.pellita that located on peatland in HTI PT. Kalimantan Subur Permai. The results of the research show that up to 100 cm soil depth was found AMF spores. Spores abundance increased with increasing depth of peat. At a depth of 0-20 cm was found as much as 317 spores/100 g of peat, depth of 20-40 cm 360 spores /100 g of peat, depth of 40 - 60 as much as 428 spores/100 g of peat, depth of 60 - 80 as much as 315 spores/100 g peat and 80 - 100 cm 234 spores/100 g of peat. The highest number is found at a depth of 40-60 cm and a depth of 60 cm more than the number of spores found on the wane. Based on the distance from the sampling of plant E. pellita, it turns out there is a difference between a distance of 30 cm by 60 cm. Spore abundance is higher at a distance of 60 cm sampling compared with 30 cm. The results also showed that in HTI PT. Kalimantan Subur Permai built on peat more a lot of genus Glomus. Based on the observations of the characteristics of the type of spores were found in HTI area there are 8 species of mycorrhizal fungi that needs to be further identified.
