Abstract

Excessive human consumption and dependence on fossil fuels cause fuel reserves become depleted, while for the renewal takes thousands and even millions of years. To overcome fossil fuel dependency is carried sorghum starch conversion into bioethanol as a renewable energy. In this research, sorghum starch fermentation process using bacteria Saccharomyces Cerevisiae reviewed variations additions Cordyceps sinensis 0.5 g, 1 g, 1.5 g, and 2 g, to obtain bioethanol from sorghum starch with higher level. The purpose of this study to determine the effect of addition Cordyceps Sinensis variation conversion to bioethanol produced and determine the effect of variations in the fermentation time to conversion of bioethanol produced. Fermentation was conducted in 2 Liter fermentor with variations of fermentation time from 12, 24, 48, 72, until 96 hours, addition of Cordyceps Sinensis 0.5 g, 1 g, 1.5 g, and 2 g. Cordyceps sinensis role in improving the resilience microbial cells in the fermentation medium to produce bioethanol at higher level. The addition Cordyceps Sinensis can promote the growth microorganisms and fermentation activity. Sorghum starch fermentation process produce optimum conditions on addition Cordyceps Sinensis much as 1 gram and fermentation time of 96 hours with a bioethanol content of 2.124882% (v / v).Keywords: Bioethanol, Starch Sorghum, Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, Cordyceps Sinensis

Abstract

Industry of palm oil continues to develop so that production of palm oil increases followed by increasing by-products in the form of waste. The biggest waste is Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) wastewater and needs to be treated because containing high organic matter. Utilization of microalgae carried out to wastewater treatment process. POME is used as a medium and nutrient for microalgae growth. Chlorella sp. immobilized with calcium alginate to remove of TSS parameter on POME. In this study, variations of wastewater concentration are 50%, 75%, 100% (v/v), and different source light i.e. artificial light and sunlight sources, and the contact times 0,1,3,5,7 (days ). Based on the results that Chlorella sp. able to growth well in a medium of 50% wastewater concentration using artificial lightsource on 7th days and removal efficiency of TSS obtained to 76.43%. Abstract

Acetic acid is widely used in the manufacture of chemicals, food additives, and cosmetics. Acetic acid can be produced by fermentation using nypa sap raw material because it contains sucrose, glucose, and fructose. One of the factors that influence fermentation results is the concentration of sugar. The fermentation process was carried out with two fermentation stages in stage I using S. Cerevisiae at 1,3 and 5 days fermentation time with a sugar concentration of 249 g / L. The resulting bioethanol was followed by the second stage of fermentation using A.Pasteurianus at 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 days fermentation time. The maximum concentration of acetic acid was obtained at 9 days fermentation and bioethanol substrate 23,68 g / L which was 5,35 g / L and 49,73% yield. Keywords : Acetic acid, A. Abstract

Palm oil mill effluent containing pollutants such as organic matter and high suspended solids that contributes to environmental pollution. Organic material contained in palm oil mill effluent can be used as nutrition by microalgae Chlorella sp. which is entrapped inside the alginate bead and can reduce TSS content in palm oil mill effluent. The TSS removal process was carried out in a flat-photobioreactor with various concentrations of algal bead in the amount of 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14 beads/mL of wastewater with contact times of 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 days. Based on the results of the study, the best TSS removal efficiency was found in flatphotobioreactors with concentrations of algal bead 12 beads/mL of wastewater on the seventh day at 80.1%. Abstract

utilization of a dynamic world energy consumption in the limitations of fossil energy reserves has created opportunities for the use of microalgae as a biofuel. The use of microalgae as a feedstock source for bioethanol production requires high yields of both biomass and carbohydrates. one of the potentially mikroalga as raw bioetanol is Chlorella pyrenoidosa. Chlorella pyrenoidosa has a carbohydrate content in the cellulose and hemicellulose form in its cell wall which can be utilized for bioethanol production. Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) has been studied for their potential as medium growth of microalgae due to high nutrient content. This research was conducted with variation of POME concentration (0; 25; 50; 75 ; 100%v) in medium and addition of synthetic nutrient in the form of urea as nitrogen source and TSP as phosphate source with ratio (2:1 ; 1:2 ; 0,5:1) to enchance the algae growth. The result showed the highest carbohydrate concentration was 184,1 mg/L at cultivation condition of POME concentration 25%v with ratio (urea:TSP) 2:1.Keywords: Chlorella pyrenoidosa, Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME), Urea, TSP, Carbohydrates

Abstract

Eupenicilium Javanicum is a mold that has high heat resistance. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of temperature (T: 80 ° C, 85 ° C, 90 ° C) at soluble solid SS: 10 ° Brix on the thermal inactivation of E. Javanicum spores. Then determine the value of D and Z. This study uses the thermal method of pasteurization process and spore calculation using the spread plate method. The D-values obtained at SS 10 ° Brix for temperatures 80, 85 and 90 ° C were 10.82; 4.63; and 1.45 minutes and the Z-value obtained is in the at 11,47 ° C. It was shown that haiger temperature resulted in the decreasing of the timeneeded to inactivate the spores. The results of this study emphasize the importance of temperature to the D and Z value for pineapple juice pasteurization. Keywords: Ascospore, Inactivation, Pasteurization, Pineapple juice, E.
