Abstract

This study aims to compare the experiences of married students in maintaining a balance between academic and family life in Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam. This study used a comparative qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model. This study's findings show significant differences and similarities in the motives for continuing postgraduate studies between married students in Brunei and Indonesia. Students in Brunei tend to be driven by internal motives such as self-development and personal satisfaction, with government support and scholarship programs playing an important role in their motivation. In contrast, students in Indonesia focus more on career achievement and professional incentives such as salary increases and scholarships, as well as personal satisfaction from academic achievement. Significant differences also emerged in academic achievement, domestic relationships, and career progression. The financial support provided by the Brunei government allows students to focus more on their studies and maintain a balanced home life. In contrast, students in Indonesia often have to bear the financial burden alone, which results in stress and delays in graduation. Financial pressures in Indonesia also affect the stability of domestic relationships and long-term career planning, with students focusing more on short-term employment than future planning. These findings support the Work-Family Balance theory, providing recommendations that institutional religion and cultural norms should develop adaptive policies so that students can face dual demands in a balanced manner.

Abstract

This article aims to critically examine Nurcholish Madjid's strategy of moderate intellectualism as a form of deconstruction of radical thought in Islam in the contemporary era. This research uses the library research method, which is a method that aims to examine literature in depth, both primary and secondary. Primary data was collected from Nurcholish Madjid's writings such as books, articles, and relevant papers. Meanwhile, secondary data were obtained from scientific journals, the results of previous research, and literature on radical Islamic ideology and moderation. The results of the study show that Cak Nur's intellectual strategies, such as political desacralization, positive secularization, rationalization of religious teachings, and the strengthening of pluralism and democracy, are able to dismantle the ideological structure of radicalism based on textual and exclusive interpretations. This moderate approach not only offers a more contextual and humanist Islamic narrative, but also serves as a strategic response in strengthening an inclusive, tolerant, and peaceful Islamic discourse in the midst of the complexity of the challenges of the times.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using the scramble method on students' interest and understanding of the Al-Qur'an Hadith subject in Grade X at MAN 2 Kota Cirebon. The research was motivated by the low level of student interest and understanding, as demonstrated by a lack of active participation and difficulty in understanding the texts of the Qur'an and Hadith, which is thought to be related to the use of conventional teaching methods. This study used a quantitative approach with a non-experimental descriptive correlational design. The data were analysed to determine the relationship between the use of the scramble method as an independent variable and student interest and understanding as dependent variables. The results of the analysis showed a correlation coefficient (rxy) of 0.573, which is in the moderate correlation category and is positive, thus indicating a significant influence between the two variables. The contribution of determination was 60%, indicating that the scramble method contributed significantly to increasing student interest and understanding, with an increase of 33%. Thus, the scramble method can be used as an alternative active learning strategy in Al-Qur'an Hadith lessons.
