Abstract

This research explores the psychological conflict experienced by the main character, M, in the Thai film How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies (2024). This study uses Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory, specifically the concepts of id, ego, and superego, to analyze M's inner transformation. At the beginning of the story, M is driven by a personal desire to inherit from his grandmother. However, as time goes by, he experiences emotional changes that make him face an inner conflict between his ambition and his growing moral awareness, as well as an increasingly strong emotional bond. The cultural value of filial piety in Thai society plays an important role in this process, as it helps shape M's moral awareness and the development of his superego structure. Using qualitative descriptive methods, this study identifies how M's psychological conflict is reflected through his actions, expressions, and developing relationship with his grandmother. The results show that the character's internal conflict undergoes a transition from id to the ego, followed by superego, which is influenced by cultural values. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of character development in Southeast Asian cinema by combining Freud's psychoanalytic theory with the local moral framework of filial piety values.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of leverage, firm size, and profitability on earnings management, with CEO narcissism as a moderating variable. Using data from manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2018 to 2023, the research employs quantitative methods, including multiple linear regression and moderated regression analysis (MRA). The results indicate that leverage, firm size, and profitability positively and significantly affect earnings management. Furthermore, CEO narcissism strengthens the relationship between leverage and earnings management, as well as between profitability and earnings management, but does not moderate the effect of firm size on earnings management. These findings contribute to the understanding of how psychological traits of CEOs interact with financial factors to influence corporate financial reporting practices.

Abstract

Purpose: The earplug usage routine for workers exposed to noise serves as a preventive measure against the adverse effects of noise. Approximately 76.9% of earplug usage routines that are not adhered to during work are associated with tinnitus and hearing loss among workers. To know the correlation between earplug usage routine and the incidence of tinnitus and hearing loss among production workers. Methods: Analytical descriptive research with a cross-sectional design. A sample of workers exposed to noise in the production section of the food processing factory (92-110 dB) reported experiencing tinnitus and hearing loss. Tinnitus and earplug usage routines were assessed from the anamnesis, hearing loss was evaluated based on audiometry results, and noise level was measured using a sound-level meter. Data analysis was done using the chi-square test. Results: All samples consisted of 80 males, with an age range of 28 to 54 years (mean age 47.78±8.74 years). The duration of occupation was>10 years for 62 (77.5%) and <10 years for 18 (22.5%). Tinnitus was present in 48 samples (60%), hearing loss in 61 samples (76.25%), and routine earplug use in 51 samples (63.75%). Notably, earplug usage routines correlate with both the incidence of tinnitus (p < 0.000) and hearing loss (p < 0.000). Conclusion: The routine use of earplugs correlates with tinnitus and hearing loss in workers exposed to noise.

Abstract

This Community Service Program aims to enhance the English public-speaking skills and self-confidence of Gen Z students at SMA RU 2 through the “Talk Like a Pro” bootcamp. The main challenges addressed include students’ low confidence in speaking English and the lack of engaging, culturally relevant practice media in the pesantren environment. The program was implemented through intensive training sessions consisting of basic public-speaking instruction, guided practice, ice-breaking activities, and assisted production of short English videos featuring unique santri characteristics. The results show a clear improvement in students’ willingness to speak, classroom participation, and creativity in expressing Islamic messages and daily pesantren life through short-form video content. The final videos serve not only as an assessment tool for speaking skills but also as positive digital content that can support the school’s branding efforts. Overall, the bootcamp proved effective and has strong potential for further development, particularly by extending mentoring duration and diversifying materials to suit the needs of digital-native learners.
