Abstract

This study analyzes the challenges faced by alumni of modern pesantren in understanding classical Islamic texts (Kitab Kuning) through Arab Pegon learning at Ma'had Al-Jami'ah, UIN Walisongo. Utilizing a qualitative case study design, data was collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis, with validation achieved through source and method triangulation. The results indicate that Arab Pegon is systematically taught through the reading and explanation of Kitab Kuning, guided sessions with ustadz, and weekly muhadasah classes to enhance communication skills. However, alumni encounter several obstacles, such as unfamiliarity with Pegon script, which is not commonly taught in modern pesantren, difficulties in understanding its structural differences compared to formal Arabic grammar, and low motivation due to perceived irrelevance to their academic objectives. Additionally, traditional methods such as bandongan and sorogan pose challenges for students accustomed to modern educational systems. To comprehend these dynamics, this study employs an integrative pedagogical approach combining traditional and modern methods alongside sociolinguistic perspectives. To address these challenges, the strategies for teaching Arab Pegon include a gradual introduction to Pegon script, reading-writing practices with the guidance of teachers, and vocabulary memorization. This study contributes to the pedagogical integration of traditional and modern education methods while proposing a model for Arab Pegon instruction that is responsive to the diverse educational backgrounds of students.

Abstract

Lightweight concrete is defined as concrete utilizing lightweight aggregates or a combination of fine aggregates and natural sand, with a maximum density not exceeding 1850 kg/m³. Recent advancements in foam concrete—a cement-based material with a density range of 400–1850 kg/m³—have expanded its applications in structural and non-structural components. This study investigates the effect of fine aggregate particle size and foam volume on the compressive strength of lightweight foam concrete. Fine aggregates with particle sizes of 4.75 mm, 2.36 mm, and 1.18 mm were used, corresponding to target densities of 800 kg/m³, 1000 kg/m³, and 1200 kg/m³. The mix design was based on the Absolute Volume Method, following ASTM C29 and SNI standards. Experimental results indicate that the use of 4.75 mm aggregate resulted in the highest percentage increase in compressive strength across all dencity levels, namely 1.50% at 800 kg/m³, 2.08% at 1000 kg/m³, and 1.34% at 1200 kg/m³. At the highest density (1200 kg/m³), where foam content was minimized, the increase in compressive strength was more stable, recorded at 1.06% for 1.18 mm sand, 1.28% for 2.36 mm sand, and 1.34% for 4.75 mm sand. The findings highlight that both aggregate gradation and foam volume significantly affect the mechanical performance of foam concrete, with coarser aggregates offering better strength performance, particularly at higher densities.

Abstract

Abstract

The increasing demand for effective Arabic language instruction underscores the importance of innovative digital learning media in enhancing students’ vocabulary mastery and engagement. This study aims to develop animated video learning media based on the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework to improve mufrodat (Arabic vocabulary) mastery among tenth-grade students. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which includes Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The needs analysis revealed that conventional lecture-based instruction was ineffective, with 85% of students reporting boredom and difficulty memorizing vocabulary, and an initial mufrodat mastery level of only 30%. To address this issue, TPACK-based animated videos were developed through competency mapping, material structuring, and scriptwriting aligned with the integration of technology, pedagogy, and content. Expert validation results indicated high feasibility, with scores of 90.22% from media experts and 85.53% from content experts. The implementation was conducted with Grade X students at MA Darul Ulum Semarang. The effectiveness test demonstrated a significant improvement in learning outcomes, as the average score increased from 56.89 to 87.41, representing a gain of 30.52 points. Student responses (96.07%) and teacher observations (80.56%) further confirmed the high feasibility of the developed media. Overall, the findings indicate that TPACK-based animated video learning media are effective and engaging in improving students’ mufrodat mastery and learning outcomes, offering practical contributions to Arabic language education and digital learning innovation.

Abstract

The linguistic quality of Arabic textbooks is very important for optimal learning at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level. Linguistic errors, inconsistent terminology, poor readability, and ambiguous instructions can hinder student comprehension and increase cognitive load. This study aims to evaluate the linguistic suitability of fifth-grade Arabic textbooks published by Nur Hidayah Press in accordance with the guidelines set by the Education Curriculum and Assessment Standards Agency (BSKAP). This research uses a qualitative descriptive methodology through library research. Data were collected through documentation methods by analyzing the linguistic elements of the textbooks, including grammatical accuracy, terminology consistency, sentence clarity, and linguistic simplicity, using twelve linguistic feasibility metrics provided by BSKAP. The results showed that the textbook received a total score of 35 out of 48 (72,92%), categorized as acceptable. Although it generally complied with language standards, there were several shortcomings in terminology consistency, sentence complexity, and instruction clarity. Specific language changes are needed to improve readability, consistency, and instruction clarity for better learning outcomes.
