Abstract

The effect of Tauge Extract Medium (TEM) concentration to the growth of Subang isolated Scenedesmus. Research on the effect of several concentration of Tauge Extract Medium (TEM) to Scenedesmus Meyen cell densities was conducted. The research was an experimental study with complete random design with 8 treatments, i.e. 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%, 6% TEM, aqua bides, and Bold Basal Medium (BBM). The results showed that TEM concentration effected cell densities of Scenedesmus. At peak condition, the highest cell density (3.981.071 sel/mL) was occurred in 4% at the day of seven, and the lowest cell density (87.096 sel/mL) in aqua bides at the day of three. Kruskal-Wallis test showed that there were differences between the mean of cell densities on all treatment media. Multiple comparison test showed that mean of cell numbers of Scenedesmus differed among treatments (p value>0,05) between aqua bides with 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%, 6%, and BBM.

Abstract

The Growth of Chlorella spp. in Tauge Extract Medium (TEM) with Various Initial pH. Research on the effect of tauge extract medium initial pH value on Chlorella Beijerinck cell densities at peak condition had been done. The research was an experimental study with complete random design with 5 treatments (tauge extract medium with initial pH 5,6,7,8, and 9). At peak condition the highest cell density (5.677.625 sel/ml) was occured in medium with initial pH 7 and the lowest (3.374.100 sel/ml) in medium with initial pH 5. Anova test shown that there was an effect (p value>0,05) of tauge extract medium initial pH value on Chlorella cell densities (cell/ml) at peak condition. Multiple comparison test showed that mean of cell numbers of Chlorella differed among treatments (p value>0,05) except between media with initial pH 8 and 9.

Abstract

Research on the cultivation of mixed cultures of Situ (small lake) Mahoni UI Campus Depok has been done. This research was a preliminary study to measure and compare the growth of Situ Mahoni mixed cultures microalgae grown in Bold's Basal Medium (BBM) with addition of zeolite and without addition of zeolite, and varying concentrations of heavy metal Pb. The concentrations of heavy metal Pb used were 0 ppm, 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 60 ppm, 80 ppm, and 100 ppm for two treatments. The results of this research were that the growth of mixed cultures with the addition of zeolite had the highest abundance of 8.800 cells/mL on day 5 (T5) at a Pb concentration of 40 ppm. Meanwhile, the growth of mixed culture without the addition of zeolite had the highest abundance of 21.700 cells/mL on day 10 (T10) at a Pb concentration of 60 ppm. The growth of microalgae mixed cultures in the medium without addition of zeolite was higher than using zeolite. The activation of zeolite pores causes the microalgae growth is relatively lower. This work aimed to study the growth of a mixed cultures microalgae in varying concentrations of Pb with and without the addition of zeolite

Abstract

The global energy transition relies on renewable solutions such as microalgae. However, the diversity of microalgae in urban freshwaters, especially how anthropogenic noise affects them, remains unexplored. Our study explores three small lakes in Greater Jakarta—Babakan (South Jakarta), Puspa, and Kenanga (Universitas Indonesia, Depok, West Java)—that are becoming more exposed to anthropogenic noise, an evolving stressor with uncertain ecological effects on microalgae. Microalgae were identified from water samples collected from Babakan, Kenanga, and Puspa lakes, which had sound levels of -69.37 dB, -81.49 dB, and -99.43 dB, respectively. The results show that Kenanga Small Lake has the highest diversity (H' 2.44), while Puspa Small Lake has the highest dominance (D = 0.16) and evenness (E = 0.88). The "silent" Puspa Lake has the highest lipid percentage, which was 51.66%. While all environmental factors are interconnected to affect microalgal community structure and lipid percentage, these data point to a possible link between lower noise levels and better lipid yields, implying that indigenous microalgae from calmer urban contexts could be a feasible source of sustainable biofuel production.

Abstract

Abstract. Hendrayanti D, Prihantini NB, Ningsih F, Maulana F. 2023. Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) for Cyanobacterial study in Agung and Sunter Barat Lakes, North Jakarta, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 24: 1117-1124. The Next Generation Sequences (NGS) is one of the established metabarcoding methods for analyzing microbial communities. Investigation of the cyanobacterial community in eutrophic freshwater habitats is important, especially for those known as toxic-released cyanobacteria. This study aimed to analyze the structure community of cyanobacteria in Agung and Sunter Barat Lakes in North Jakarta, DKI Jakarta Province using the NGS method. The physico-chemical parameters were also measured. Sampling plots were selected by purposive sampling method. The result of the study successfully analyzed the bacterial community structure and portrayed the dominancy of the cyanobacterial population on the two lakes. Several cyanobacteria genera previously reported in 2008 research were found, including Arthrospira and Planktothrix. The diversity index in Agung Lake (4.7) was higher than in Sunter Barat Lake (3.7). Two dominant populations were found, which were Raphidiopsis (in Agung Lake) and Planktothrix (in Sunter Barat Lake). Both genera have been acknowledged as toxin-releasing cyanobacteria, which could be harmful to the water-biotic community as well as human health. The presence of potentially toxic cyanobacteria in the recreation area of Agung Lake should be taken into consideration for biomonitoring management.
