Abstract

This research aims to analyze the development of music production and the factors driving development in the Reog Kendang Performing Art Prana Kesuma Aji Art Studio in Tulungagung Regency (2017-2021). This problem was analyzed using theories put forward by several figures. In the process of analyzing the development of music production, Reog Kendang Performing Art uses theories from Edy Sedyawati, Rahayu Supanggah, and Kuntowijoyo, and to explain the driving factors using Koentjoroningrat theory. This research uses qualitative methods, with stages of data collection, data analysis, and data presentation. Data collection stages include interviews, observation, documentation and transcription. Data analysis stages include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The data presentation stages are obtained from the results of data collection and data analysis and then presented in a scientific work. The development that occurred was the addition and change of garap elements in the Reog Kendang Performing Art of the Prana Kesuma Aji Art Studio, including garap materials, garap materials, garap facilities, garap furniture or tools, garap determinants, and garap considerations. Development occurs due to the influence of driving factors including individual awareness, quality of expertise, and stimulating systems.

Abstract

ABSTRACT One of the developments in film in Indonesia is the musical genre film. This genre film experienced a post-reform high point when Sherina's Adventure Film came. This point then became the beginning of the development of musical genre films that were born in the 2000s period. One of the interesting musical films is the Javanese Opera Film by Garin Nugroho. Opera Jawa is interesting because first, Opera Jawa has received various awards and nominations at both national and international levels. Second, because this film bases its musical work on Javanese gamelan or gamelan media. This second reason is the focus of this research. The research "Rahayu Suanggah's Creativity in Garin Nugroho's Javanese Opera Film" is an attempt to reveal one of the film music creation methodologies based on her creative process with Javanese karawitan media (gamelan music). The musical concepts of the musical that were carried by Rahayu Supanggah as the music director was revealed through Rahayu Supanggah's conceptual approach in Bothekan Karawitan Garap's book (2007). The results of this study; Rahayu Supanggah uses Javanese musical nuances in composing Javanese Opera music by involving songs that are composed in various variations such as; 1) single tembang, 2) pathetan, 3) nothing, 4) palaran, and 5) arrangement of traditional pieces while the illustration music consists of 1) New Composition, 2) Illustration of Traditional Music, 3) Exploration Music. Keywords: Creativity, Music, Javanese Opera, Rahayu Supanggah  ABSTRAK Perkembangan film di Indonesia salah satunya pernah diwarnai oleh film genre musikal. Film genre ini mengalami titik puncak pasca reformasi ketika Film Petualangan Sherina hadir. Titik tersebut kemudian menjadi awal perkembangan film genre musikal yang lahir pada periode tahun 2000-an. Salah satu film musikal yang menarik adalah Film Opera Jawa karya Garin Nugroho. Opera Jawa menarik karena pertama, Opera Jawa mendapatkan berbagai penghargaan dan nominasi tingkat nasional maupun internasional. Kedua, karena film ini mendasarkan garapan musikalnya dengan media gamelan Jawa atau karawitan. Alasan kedua inilah yang menjadi fokus pada penelitian ini.Penelitian “Kreativitas Rahayu Suanggah dalam Film Opera Jawa Karya Garin Nugroho” merupakan upaya mengungkap salah satu metodologi penciptaan musik film yang mendasarkan proses kreatifnya dengan media karawitan Jawa (musik gamelan). Konsep-konsep musikal karawitan yang diusung Rahayu Supanggah sebagai music director diungkap melalui pendekatan konsep garap-nya Rahayu Supanggah dalam buku Bothekan Karawitan Garap (2007). Abstract

Purpose: This article aims to describe an event titled Lokananta Gamelan Gigs (LOGIGS), which is regularly held at Lokananta, Surakarta. The event was initiated to address a specific issue: the lack of interest among younger generations, particularly Gen Z, in traditional gamelan arts. To tackle this challenge, the organizers developed strategies to package and promote LOGIGS using a popular culture approach, aiming to spark greater interest in gamelan among young people. Additionally, social aspects, including the importance of collectivism to create an inclusive space within the gamelan community, also form a critical foundation of the event's objectives. This emphasis on collectivism and inclusivity is expected to foster better management skills and increased productivity within the gamelan scene. Methods: This research employs a qualitative method, integrating art studies, cultural studies, management, and ethnography. Data were gathered through Instagram content analysis, media news reviews, direct observations of performances, and interviews. Results and Discussion: Findings reveal that LOGIGS adopts a popular culture approach to realize its vision, as reflected in various elements such as poster design styles, performers' attire, and other subcultural aspects, as well as the event’s overall presentation. LOGIGS also functions as an inclusive space and an educational platform, evident in Instagram posts discussing gamelan knowledge. Conclusion: The implementation of LOGIGS through a popular culture approach highlights an innovative gamelan event management model that has not been explored in prior discussions.

Abstract

This article is a research that aims to determine the tunning system in Gamelan Kyai Kanjeng and the factors that influence the tunning system in Gamelan Kyai Kanjeng. This research combines two methods, namely, qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative data collection techniques were carried out using literature studies, observations, interviews and documentation studies. The quantitative data collection technique in this research was carried out by recording tones and measuring the frequency of Kyai Kanjeng’s Gamelan. The results of the research show that the tunning system in Gamelan Kyai Kanjeng is a flexible tunning system that can cover several music genres with diatonic tonality. The tunning system applied to Kyai Kanjeng’s Gamelan is influenced by several factors including the influence of Emha Ainun Nadjib, the empirical experience of gamelan makers and the repertoire of Kyai Kanjeng.

Abstract

This study discusses the phenomenon, symbols, and meaning of garap nggantung in the context of Surakarta-style gamelan performances. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and literature studies. The method used is qualitative descriptive analysis. In this study, the focus of the analysis is on the phenomenon, symbols, and meanings related to garap nggantung. This study reveals that garap nggantung is the result of a complex creative process, involving balungan notation, interaction between instruments, and individual interpretations of the gamelan player. Garap nggantung is not only a technique, but also a symbol that contains deep meaning. This finding has important implications for the teaching and preservation of Surakarta-style gamelan. By understanding the meaning behind garap nggantung, gamelan learners can better understand the aesthetic richness of gamelan art. In addition, this study also opens up opportunities for further research on other garaps in gamelan texts in depth.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the identity of Jombangan music garap and its forming factors in the art of Jaranan Dor art group "Karya Budaya" in Kediri Regency. The problem is analyzed using theories put forward by several figures. In the process of analyzing identity in garap music, Jaranan Dor uses the theory offered by George M. Head and Rahayu Supanggah, and to describe the factors of identity formation using the theory proposed by Stuart Hall. This research uses qualitative methods, with stages of data collection, data analysis, and data presentation. The data collection phase includes interviews, observation, documentation, and transcription. The data analysis stage includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The data presentation stage is carried out after obtaining the results of the data analysis stage and then presented in a scientific writing work. The identity formed through the elements of music garap in the Jaranan Dor art group "Karya Budaya" is Jombangan. Jombangan identity can be formed due to several factors, including geographical location, cultural conditions of the community, and history.

Abstract

This research is based on the awareness that music functions both as an artistic expression and as a cosmological representation embedded within the cultural structures of traditional societies. The Siwaluh Jabu traditional house in Lingga Village, North Sumatra, was selected as the object of study to examine the relationship between music and the cosmological views of the Karo people. The purpose of this study is to reveal the meaning of music within cultural practices and rituals carried out in the Siwaluh Jabu House, as well as to explore musical elements that reflect the continuity between humans, ancestors, and the universe. This research employs a qualitative approach, with data collected through literature review, participatory observation, and interviews with traditional leaders and local artists. The data analysis was conducted through data reduction, classification, data presentation, and drawing of conclusion. The results of the study show that music both the vocal mantra “ole…ah…ole” and the Gendang Lima Sendalanen ensemble contains symbolic values that interpret wood as a natural element, sustain social connections between groups, and reinforce the social system embedded in the spatial organization of the Siwaluh Jabu traditional house. Music serves as a medium of spiritual and cultural communication that unites the physical and metaphysical dimensions of life. The implications of this research enrich the perspective of music culture and emphasize the importance of preserving traditional music as a local knowledge system integrated with the cosmology of the Karo people.

Abstract

AbstrakDigitalisasi memiliki peran penting dalam meningkatkan perekonomian masyarakat di Desa Banget, Kecamatan Kaliwungu, Kabupaten Kudus. Melalui penerapan teknologi digital, masyarakat dapat membuka peluang usaha baru, meningkatkan aksesibilitas terhadap pasar global, dan meningkatkan efisiensi operasional. Namun, penerapan digitalisasi di Desa Banget masih menghadapi beberapa tantangan, seperti infrastruktur digital yang terbatas, kurangnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan digital, keterbatasan modal dan akses pembiayaan, serta tantangan keamanan digital. Untuk mengatasi tantangan tersebut, diperlukan upaya dari berbagai pihak, termasuk pemerintah, sektor swasta, dan masyarakat. Beberapa solusi yang dapat diusulkan antara lain: a. Meningkatkan akses internet dan infrastruktur digital di Desa Banget. b. Menyediakan pelatihan dan pendidikan digital kepada masyarakat. c. Memberikan akses modal dan pembiayaan bagi masyarakat dan UMKM. d. Meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat tentang manfaat dan risiko digitalisasi. e. Dengan kerja sama yang kuat dari berbagai pihak, penerapan digitalisasi di Desa Banget dapat menjadi katalisator untuk pertumbuhan ekonomi yang berkelanjutan.Kata kunci: Digitalisasi, Desa Banget, Perekonomian Masyarakat, Tantangan, Solusi.AbstractDigitalization plays a crucial role in improving the economy of the community in Banget Village, Kaliwungu District, Kudus Regency. Through the implementation of digital technology, communities can explore new business opportunities, enhance accessibility to global markets, and improve operational efficiency. However, the implementation of digitalization in Banget Village still faces several challenges, such as limited digital infrastructure, lack of digital knowledge and skills, financial constraints, and digital security challenges. Overcoming these challenges requires efforts from various parties, including the government, private sector, and the community. Some proposed solutions include: a. Improving internet access and digital infrastructure in Banget Village. b. Providing training and digital education to the community. c. Offering financial access and support for the community and SMEs. d. Increasing community awareness of the benefits and risks of digitalization. e. With strong collaboration from various parties, the implementation of digitalization in Banget Village can act as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth.Keywords: Digitalization, Banget Village, Community Economy, Challenges, Solutions.
