Abstract

Potato production in Indonesia decreased by 2.43% from 1,314,657 in 2019 and 1,282,768 tons in 2020. One of the causes of the decline in potato production is a lack of potassium. Potassium nutrient deficiency can be caused by fertilization that is not yet precise and is still done conventionally. The purpose of this study was to estimate the nutrient content of potassium using Sentinel 2-A. This study observed 50 points that were determined through the free grid method. Sentinel 2-A was transformed into GLI, GNDVI, NDVI which is the vegetation index and NDSI, and SAVI which is the soil index. The results showed that plant K correlated with GLI CS index (r = -0,46), NDVI CS (r = -0,48) and NDSI CS (r = -0,46). NDVI CS (R2 =2 3%) is the most accurate index in estimating the nutrient content of Potassium than GLI CS (R2 = 21%) and NDSI CS (R2 = 21%). Based on the results of the plant K regression test and NDVI CS, the regression equation y = 1,8003 + (-0,5716 NDVI CS) was obtained. The results of the validation test showed that the t table (-3.18) > t count (2.15) so that there is a significant difference in the estimation results of potassium with the results of potassium obtained in the field. Based on the results of the validation test which were significantly different, the productivity estimation model could not be used to estimate the potassium nutrient in potatoes.

Abstract

Mount Semeru eruption in 2020 and 2021 damaged 851 ha of productive land. Restoration of the affected lands requires information such as wide area, distribution, and eruption material characteristics. This community service aimed to provide a database as an overview of pyroclastic materials characteristics and elucidate potential-and-adaptive plants and microbes on post-Mt. Semeru eruptions. The volcanic ash contains significant elements (Al, Si, K, Ca, Ti, and Fe) and minor elements (V, Cr, Mn, Cu, Zn, Sr, Ba, Eu, and Re). Some of the plants that have survived post-eruption are annual shrubs and herbaceous plants such as grasses, so these plants can be used to restore the affected lands fertility after the Mt Semeru eruption. Based on economic evaluation and conditions in the field, the recommended adaptive plants are Pennisetum puparium and Musa paradisiaca. Both plants provide economic benefits for animal feed and farmers' income during post-eruption land recovery.

Abstract

Abstract

Watershed hydrological conditions can decrease due to changes in land use and inappropriate land management. One of the watershed functions is providing water availability for agricultural areas. Along with the increasing area of agricultural land, there is often the issue of water availability, which has implications for the low opportunity for plants to use it. Infiltration is the initial process of water entry into the soil, so the availability of water is greatly influenced by this process. Agricultural land in the Kalisari sub-watershed is dry land and is dominated by dry fields. The area of the Kalisari sub-watershed has an area of ±5,000 ha divided into 5 land uses, namely mahogany-coffee agroforestry, pine-coffee agroforestry, scrub, dry land, and paddy fields. Infiltration measurements were spread over 43 measurement points, with the observed parameters being texture, bulk density, porosity, permeability, aggregate stability, and soil organic matter. The infiltration rate for all land uses is very fast (>25 cm hour-1), ranging from 12.00 cm hour-1 to 74.37 cm hour-1. The infiltration rate for all land uses was not significantly different; this was in line with soil properties, which included texture, bulk density (0.61-1.02 g cm-3), porosity (51.02-68.06%), permeability (4.88–6.79 cm hour-1), aggregate stability (2.11–3.34 mm), and organic matter (1.61-4.06%). However, the infiltration rate at the study site had a significant relationship with clay (r = -0.77), sand (r = 0.64), silt (r = 0.52) and soil organic matter   (r = 0.48).

Abstract

Abstract

Madurese tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum  L.) is a semi-aromatic tobacco that is very much needed by the Kretek cigarette industry, with the dominant cultivated varieties being Prancak-95 and Tarnyak. Madura tobacco production every year does not meet the market needs, so efforts to increase production through land extensification are one solution. The extensification of Madura tobacco land was carried out in Tuban Regency because it has suitable climatic conditions. This research aims to obtain the best irrigation and fertilization recommendations for the growth, production, and quality of Madurese tobacco in Tuban Regency. Madurese tobacco requires essential nutrients for its growth to produce good quality, such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K), so it requires the addition of compound fertilizer. This research was carried out during the dry season in Tluwe Village, Soko District, Tuban Regency. This experiment used a Factorial Randomized Block Design consisting of 3 factors (variety P (Prancak-95) and T (Tarnyak), compound fertilizer dose 1 (100% fertilizer) and 2 (50% fertilizer), and irrigation intensity A (Water 100%). %) and B (Water 50%)) with 8 combinations and 3 repetitions, namely P1A, P1B, P2A, P2B, T1A, T1B, T2A, T2B. The research results showed that treatment of irrigation intensity and compound fertilizer had a significant effect on growth but no significant effect on production. The T1B treatment provided the highest average value for growth. P2B treatment produced the best quality Madurese tobacco physically and chemically (quality I), namely greenish/bright yellow color, elastic handle, very fresh aroma, nicotine content of 2.97%, and sugar content of 14.46%. Further research is recommended to be carried out with the addition of variations in fertilizer doses to obtain more optimal results for the growth, production, and quality of Madura tobacco.

Abstract

Land use change significantly affects water quality, particularly in watersheds. This study assessed the water quality of the Upper Welang Watershed, East Java, using the STORET method in relation to land use types. Water quality assessment involves comparing measured data with the National Water Quality Standard (Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021). Water samples were collected during the dry season (March to July 2023) from forest, plantation, rice field, dry field, settlement, and industrial areas. Parameters analyzed included pH, DO, BOD, COD, NO3, TDS, Pb, Cd, and coliforms. Results showed that water quality declined in areas with high anthropogenic activity, particularly in industrial and settlement zones, with COD and NO3 levels exceeding national standards. Rivers with stable substrates and sufficient habitats exhibit better water quality. The findings highlight the importance of land use management in watershed conservation

Abstract

The impact of salinity on paddy production in Indonesia was pronounced with an average decline of 6.83% (2015-2019). Salinity interferes with macronutrients' absorption into plants, causing stunted growth (salinity contributed to a 42% decrease in paddy production). One solution to solve the salinity problem in paddy is to use saline varieties. There were very few studies on macronutrient content analysis in resistant varieties response to the salinity source's distance.  This research conducted in Jabon Sidoarjo, Indonesia, aims to see the macronutrient response and plant growth to the saline source's distance. This research was conducted in Jabon District, Sidoarjo Regency, using two transects with a length of 2 km and 3.4 km, respectively. The distance between the research location and the salinity source was 10.65 km.  The survey used a free grid to adjust paddy fields' location and the presence of resistant varieties. The results showed that the closer to the salinity source, the salinity indicators consisting of Electrical Conductivity, Sodium Adsorption Ratio, Exchangeable Sodium Percentage, and pH H2O would increase. The increase in salinity then affects the decrease in macronutrients (Nitrogen, Phosphor, and Kalium) in plants. However, tillers and leaves (length and number) were unaffected by high salinity levels in the soil.
