Abstract

Abstract

Abstract: Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) is widely distributed on the surface of endothelial and epithelial cells. The renin-angiotensin system in the brain has implications for various functions, including cerebral blood circulation and brain protection, stress, depression, and the aetiology of schizophrenia. ACEs and angiotensin receptors can be found on dopaminergic neurons in the basal ganglia. Elevated levels of triglycerides and cholesterol can also be found in schizophrenic patients related to treatment and duration of the course of the disease. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between ACE gene polymorphism and cholesterol levels in schizophrenia patients. The design of this study was observational analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The sample in this study was schizophrenia patients who sought treatment at Madani Medan Hospital with a total of 42 people. The data obtained is then processed with the ANOVA one-way test. The results of the study were obtained from 42 samples, the most types of ACE gene polymorphisms were type II (76.2%), followed by the type of DD polymorphism (19%) and the least was the type of ID polymorphism (4.8%). The average value of cholesterol levels of the sample was 235.40 mg/dl with a standard deviation value of 47.618. Statistical test results of ACE gene polymorphism with cholesterol levels with p = 0.770 (p 0.05). It can be concluded that there is no relationship between the polymorphism of the ACE gene and the cholesterol levels of schizophrenic patients.

Abstract

Abstract: Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder, this disorder is characterized by delusions, hallucinations, thought disorder, restlessness, strange or hostile behaviour, feeling (affect) dull or flat, interest away from social interactions, little emotional contact (quiet, difficult to talk to), passive, apathetic or indifferent, difficult to think abstractly and lose of motivation. Sleep disturbances have been assessed in various studies in patients with schizophrenia, using subjective (ie daily interviews, sleep diaries) and objective (ie, polysomnography and actigraphy) parameters. Compared with healthy controls, patients with schizophrenia exhibit longer sleep onset latency, decreased sleep efficiency, more nighttime awakenings, increased daytime dysfunction due to sleep deprivation, poorer overall sleep quality, and a higher proportion of sleep disturbances. Previous studies have suggested that poor sleep quality is associated with female gender in schizophrenic patients. This study aims to determine the difference in sleep quality of schizophrenia patients based on gender at Madani Hospital Medan, North Sumatra. This study is an analytical descriptive with a cross-sectional study approach, sampling method using a purposive sampling technique. The data of this study were obtained from primary data using questionnaire instruments and patient medical records. Data analysis using Chi-Square test. The results showed that the sleep quality of male research respondents with disturbed sleep quality was found in 18 people (51.4%), and undisturbed sleep quality was found in 17 people (48.6%). Of female research respondents, 22 people (62.9%) had disturbed sleep quality and 13 people (37.1%). The p-value was found to be 0.334 (p0.05), which means that there was no significant difference in the sleep quality of schizophrenic patients based on gender at Madani Hospital Medan, North Sumatra. There was no significant difference in the sleep quality of schizophrenic patients based on gender at Madani Hospital Medan, North Sumatra.

Abstract

Cognitive function is an intellectual function that plays a role in carrying out daily activities. The main risk factor for impaired cognitive function is hypertension. In addition, nutritional status also influences cognitive function disorders. Currently, in Indonesia, people with increased blood pressure and unbalanced nutritional status are often found, and without realizing it can have a bad influence on cognitive function. This is a categorical analytic study with a cross-sectional method, the sampling method is non-probability sampling with consecutive sampling types, with a sample of 40 people. There is a significant difference between the difference in blood pressure on cognitive function and there is also a significant difference between nutritional status on cognitive function with a P-value = 0.001. There is a significant difference between cognitive function on blood pressure and weight gain

Abstract

Leprosy and the disability it causes, have a negative stigma in community; however only a few reports have investigated the link between leprosy and psychiatric morbidity such as depression. This study aimed to asses correlation between leprosy disability grade and depression severity among people with leprosy in Sicanang, Belawan, North Sumatera. This study was unpaired categorical comparative analytic study and 54 participants were enrolled to this study. We found a high percentage of leprosys disability, 88,9% participants were having second grade leprosys disability that means the disability was obviously seen. We found that 29,63% participant suffered from a moderate depression, 14,82% with severe depression and 10,27% suffered from extreme depression. The correlation between disability grade and depression severity was analyzed with chi square test and p value was 0,182 which means that no significant relationship between disability grade and depression severity. Depression severity among people with leprosy in Sicanang was determined by patients self perception, spouse, onset of diagnosis and patients perception about their religion.

Abstract

In schizophrenic patients, symptoms of depression are often found which can lead to adverse effects on the treatment process, such as increasing the length of treatment, increasing the possibility of relapse, non-adherence in taking medication, and can also lead to suicide in schizophrenic patients. In schizophrenic patients, the activity of the central angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) gene is altered and angiotensin II interacts with central dopamine, thereby contributing to the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. In addition, it is likely that the ACE gene variant is also involved in the development of depressive symptoms in schizophrenic patients. This research is a categorical analytic study with a cross sectional method, the sampling method is non-probability sampling with consecutive sampling type, with a total sample of 42 people. There was no significant difference between depression symptoms and ACE gene polymorphisms with P value = 0.746. There was no significant difference between depression symptoms and ACE gene polymorphisms.

Abstract

Abstract: Schizophrenia is a collection of psychotic disorders with irregularities in the thought process, which have the feeling that they are controlled by external forces, delusions, perceptual disorders and abnormal effects integrated with real situations or reality. The use of antipsychotics in schizophrenic patients is the treatment of this disease, especially the most commonly used atypical antipsychotic users. This study aims to compare LDL (low-density lipoprotein) levels in schizophrenia patients who use single atypical antipsychotics and combination atypical antipsychotics at Madani Hospital Medan, North Sumatra. This type of research is descriptive analytical using  a cross-sectional  method that takes data on variable-free bound variables at one time, which is housed at the Upt Health Laboratory. North Sumatra Provincial Health Office. The results of the Independent T-Test of the use of single antipsychotics and a combination of atypical antipsychotics on LDL levels in schizophrenia patients were p=0.001 (P≤0.05). There was a significant difference between the administration of a single atypical antipsychotic and a combination of atypical antipsychotics to LDL levels in patients with schizophrenia.
