Abstract

Blended learning has been growing in popularity as it has proved to be an effective approach for accommodating an increasingly diverse student population while adding value to the learning environment through the incorporation of online teaching resources. This study aims to investigate the effects of The use of blended learning techniques in teaching reading at the second-grade students of Man 2 Model Mataram In Academic Year 2017/2018. The purpose of the study is to know the effect of using Blended Learning technique in teaching reading at the second-grade student of Man 2 Model Mataram. The research method was quasi-experimental research with nonequivalent control group design. The population of the research was of the conducted of two classes as the sample; Experimental group (XI IS 2) and control group ( XI IS 1 ). XI IS 2 was taught by using Blended learning technique of reading while XI IS 1 was taught without Blended learning technique of reading. The researcher gave reading the test to gather the data. The formula that used to analyze the data was t-test. It is supposed to know the significant difference between students’ score in the experimental group and control group. Based on the computation of the t-test formula, it was found that the mean score of the experimental group was 14,21 and the mean score of the control group was 8,42 after analyzing the data,

Abstract

Learning English subject matter using Modal auxiliary verbs is felt difficult for students especially in creating simple sentences. Based on the results of the initial researchers' observations at SMPN 7 Mataram, English learning is still dominated by conventional learning. Therefore class VIII must be given an action in the form of more effectiveSpelling bee is a competition that asks students to spell the words as well as the sounds of a buzz. The Spelling bee is conducted orally, and it looks at contests of accuracy rather than speed. In this game, the pronouncer should allow students to ask for repetitions, sample sentences, the meaning of the word. The pronouncer has to give them the possible chance of spelling their words correctly. Regarding the definition, the researcher tries to conduct the spelling bee game in teaching vocabulary at the seventh-grade students of MTs Hidayatullah Mataram. The objective of the research is to investigate whether the use of spelling bee game has a positive effect on students' vocabulary or not, and the scope of the study only focuses on noun and verb. This research uses a quasi-experimental design and purposive technique sampling. The researcher takes two classes that are divided into an experimental and a control class. The population of the seventh-grade students consists of 50 students where the control class or VIIA consists of 25 students, and the experimental class or VIIB consists of 25 students. This research uses pre-test and post-test to collect the data. To analyze the data, the researcher uses SPSS program and manual computation in order to investigate whether the use of spelling bee game has a positive effect or not. Based on the result data  by using SPSS program shows that the mean score of the experimental class in pre-test is 50.84 which is classified as fairly score, and post-test is 80.96 is classified as Good score. The value of significance 2-tailed of Mann Whitney is 0.000 smaller than 0.05, it means that Ha is accepted. On the other hand, the manual computation shows that The value of t test = 2.800, df= 48, and t table for sig 0.05=1.677, and t table for sig 0.01= 2.406, it means that  t test is higher than t table.. Thus, the use of spelling bee game has a positive effect to the students' vocabulary at the seventh-grade students of MTs Hidayatullah Mataram in the academic year 2018/2019.

Abstract

Ambiguityis strictly speaking, used to describe aword, phrase, or sentence when it has more thanone interpretation.Sometimes we found many ambiguities sentences when we are reading or listen to the English sentences. Multiinterpretations not only happen from the English language learners, but also in native speakers themselves. Thisstudy investigated about is there any different interpretation of ambiguities sentences made by students of class c,second semester students of PPs Unnes?, and what types of ambiguous sentence majority missing in theirtranslating. The objectives of study were to know that the students of PPs Unnes have different interpretations whenthey are translating the ambiguities sentences and to identifying the types of ambiguities. This study used descriptivequalitative approach; ten postgraduate students from Class C PPs Unnes participated in this study as respondents.All were university students majoring in English. They were given 5 ambiguous sentences. Sentences includedifferent sources of ambiguity such as, structural ambiguity, and lexical ambiguity. The subjects were asked totranslate the sentences into Indonesian language. The result of study presented that participants who are not nativespeakers of English exhibited the different interpretations in translate both the given types of ambiguous sentences.Almost all of ten respondents have different interpretations in each ambiguous sentence. Most respondents showdifferent translating majority in lexical ambiguous sentences.

Abstract

Abstrak: Proses Penerapan Nilai-nilai Nasionalisme oleh mahasiswa dalam proses pembelajaran maupun pada aktifitas keseharian di Universitas Muhammadiyah Mataram seringkali terkesan dikesampingkan. Mengingat kurangnya kesadaran mahasiswa terhadap nilai moral dan nasionalisme, seperti tidak mentaati peraturan kampus, tidak menghargai teman yang berbeda suku serta menggunakan bahasa daerah di dalam kelas disaat proses pembelajaran berlangsung. Pendidikan memegang peranan yang sangat penting dalam menumbuhkan kesadaran kebangsaan atau nasionalisme pada bangsa Indonesia. Peneliti menawarkan gagasan baru dengan memberikan project kepada mahasiswa, harapannya project tersebut akan terus bisa memotivasi mahasiswa untuk menumbuhkan sikap dan perilaku nasionalisme dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Menggunakan interview, dan recording sebagai alat pengumpulan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan internalisasi nilai-nilai nasionalisme mahasiswa melalui pilot project pada mata kuliah pendidikan kewaganegaraan cukup efektif, karena penanaman nilai-nilai ini secara serius dan intens akan berdampak pada perubahan pola fikir yang nantinya akan merubah pola perilaku secara perlahan dan berkesinambungan. Ada beberapa hal yang masih harus dikuatkan oleh lembaga pendidikan, terutama dosen dan guru berkaitan dengan penghargaan terhadap penggunaan bahasa nasional dalam lembaga formal maupun pertemuan formal. Supaya isu suku dan primordialisme bisa diminimalisir serta tujuan dari penggunaan Bahasa Nasional sebagai bahasa perekat anak bangsa yang berbeda suku dan bahasa bisa terwujud.Abstract:  The process of applying the values of nationalism by students in the learning process and daily activities at the University of Muhammadiyah Mataram often seems sidelined. Given the lack of awareness of students to moral values and nationalism, such as not obeying campus rules, not respecting friends of different tribes, and using regional languages in the classroom during the learning process. Education plays a very important role in fostering national awareness or nationalism in the Indonesian nation. Researchers offer new ideas by providing projects to students, the hope is that the project will continue to motivate students to foster nationalism attitudes and behaviors in everyday life. This research was conducted with a descriptive qualitative approach. Use interviews, and recording as data collection tools. The results showed that the internalization of the values of student nationalism through pilot projects in state education courses is quite effective, because the cultivation of these values seriously and intensely will have an impact on changes in mindset that will change behavior patterns slowly and continuously. Several things must still be strengthened by educational institutions, especially lecturers and teachers related to the appreciation of the use of national languages in formal institutions and formal meetings. So that the issue of ethnicity and primordialism can be minimized and the purpose of the use of the National Language as the adhesive language of children of different tribes and languages can be realized.

Abstract

Abstract: Punctuation is set of mark used in writing to clarify the meaning and to separate the sentences, word and part of word. The using of punctuation is considered as the important aspect in productive writing skill. Therefore, it was important students to master it. The purpose of this study is to find out the students’ errors in using punctuation in descriptive text made by second year students of SMPN 3 Wera in academic year 2017/018. The subject of this study is students’ from second year in SMPN 3 Wera. The mixed method qualitative and quantitative used in this study. The study applied purposive sampling. The researcher took 21 students as a sample at a class. In collecting the data, this study used observation and writing test as the research instrument then followed by analyzing the data using formula. This study found that were two kinds of punctuation and two types of errors (period, comma, omission and addition) which classified, there are 42 errors that occurs made by the students which consist of 11 or 26% students made errors in period, 15 or 36% errors of comma, 4 or 10% errors of addition and 12 or 28% errors of omission. The dominant errors showed by the students in form of comma which 15 or 36% errors. Based on the result of this study, the researcher concluded that the students still made many errors in using punctuation

Abstract

Abstract: Pop Up Book is the role of media is very important in the learning process. The presence of the Pop Up book media can support the learning process, facilitate students in understanding the learning material. This research was aimed to improve reading through Pop Up Book media the seventh grade students of SMP N 3 Alas Barat. The research belongs to collaborative action research which created a collaboration between the teacher of the seventh grade. The subject of this research was the seventh grade student of SMP N 3 Alas Barat which consists of 14 male students and 10 female students. The technique of collecting data was test, observation, and documentation. The technique of data analysis was descriptive, both quantitative and qualitative. The result of this research shows that there is an improvement of reading of the students of seventh grade in SMP N 3Alas Barat after using Pop Up Book as the media i.e. the average score from the average score at 65 before treatment (Pre-Action), it became 72 after the first cycle and reached 83 at the second cycle. The number of percentage was also increased from 36% before treatment (Pre-Action) became 64% at the first cycle and 96% at the second cycle. Besides, based on the observation, the students and their teacher also had an improvement in each cycle. The students are more active in learning process for each cycle.

Abstract

One of the improvement of learning quality at FKIP Muhammadiyah University is by implementing Lesson Study for Learning Community (LSLC) program with several stages: (1) Organizing socialization and workshop of LSLC for lecturer of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program, Geography Education and Education of PPKn FKIP UM Mataram, (2) Developing Chapter Design and Lesson Design, (3) Practicing open lesson activities and reflection in lectures / lessons, (4) Documenting and publishing Lesson Study, (5) Conducting monitoring and evaluation of LSLC implementation, (6) and LSLC results evaluation workshops at the faculty / department level to disseminate LSLC results, (7) Presenting scientific papers / results of LSLC activities in exchange of experience forums in National and International Seminars (ICLS). From the whole process of LSLC implementation, the value of improvement that occurs in the implementation process is 0.56 which is included in the medium category. This shows that students are happy with the implementation of LSLC program in the learning process in the classroom. In general, as for the benefits to lecturers based on the results of questionnaires and interviews with the model lecturer shows that the model lecturers understand enough about lesson study.

Abstract

Abstrak: Pencapaian visi-misi menjadi Universitas unggul, Islami, dan berdaya saing dikawasan ASEAN merupakan ikhtiar Bersama seluruh civitas Universitas Muhammadiyah Mataram (UMMAT) dalam rangka pengembangan kualitas dan kapasitas sumber daya. Arah dan orientasi kebijakan Universitas tentu menjadi landasan utama dalam menggapai visi-misi tersebut. Upaya ini perlu didukung Langkah dan Tindakan yang inovatif dan kreatif dari seluruh unsur dan level struktur di UMMAT dalam bentuk implementasi riil yang sistematis, jelas dan terukur. Salah satu tindakan dan langkah yang di laksanakan adalah memberikan Kursus Bahasa Inggris kepada seluruh Dosen dan Staff UMMAT. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya dampak yang signifikan terhadap peningkatan keterampilan berbicara Bahasa inggris Dosen dan Staff UMMAT. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode one group pretst posttest design untuk mengetahui efektifitas dari memberikan Intensive English Speaking Course kepada Dosen dan Staff di UMMAT. Hasil penelitian terhadap 22 peserta terdapat peningkatan hasil Kursus Bahasa Inggris terhadap dosen dan staff khususnya speaking skill sangat efektif dilihat dari peningkatan skor rata – rata pre-test sebesar 56,00 dan  meningkat pada post test dengan rata – rata sebesar 68,55. Dan terjadi peningkatan hasil yang signifikan pada hasil kursus Bahasa Inggris bagi dosen dan staff UMMAT antara sebelum dan sesudah treatment. Hasil uji t menunjukkan skor sebesar -13.594 (sig=0,000). Uji t antara pretest dan post test secara signifikan sangat efektif.Abstract:  Muhammadiyah University of Mataram (UMMAT)'s community has worked together to increase the quality and capacity of its resources to realize the vision and goal of being a superior, Islamic, and competitive university in the ASEAN area. Certainly, the primary foundation for attaining these visions and purposes is the direction and orientation of the university's policies. This effort needs to be backed up by original and imaginative Steps and Actions from all UMMAT structure levels and elements in the form of practical implementation that is methodical, understandable, and measurable. All UMMAT lecturers and employees will receive English training as one of the initiatives and steps are done. This study was done to see if there was any real improvement in the lecturers' and staff's English-speaking abilities at UMMAT. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of offering an intensive English-speaking course to lecturers and staff at UMMAT using a one-group pretest-posttest design technique. The results of research on 22 participants, there was an increase in the results of the English course for lecturers and staff, especially speaking skills, which was very effective, as seen from the increase in the average pre-test score of 56.00 and an increase in the post-test by an average of 68.55. And there was a significant increase in the results of the English course for UMMAT lecturers and staff between before and after treatment. The results of the t-test showed a score of -13,594 (sig = 0.000). The t-test between pre-test and post-test was significantly very effective.
