Abstract

Hardiness among twelfth-grade vocational high school students can help them face and anticipate challenges related to career adaptability. When students lack hardiness in developing the willingness to engage in career development tasks, their level of career adaptability tends to be low, which may significantly affect their future. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between hardiness and career adaptability among twelfth-grade students of Vocational High Schools in Banda Raya District, Banda Aceh. This study employed a quantitative approach using a correlational method. The instruments used were the Hardiness Scale, developed based on aspects adapted from the scale by Lutfi, Jasmadi, and Nova, and the Career Adaptability Scale by Savickas. The population consisted of 782 students, with a sample of 243 students selected through probability sampling using the cluster (area) sampling technique. The results of data analysis showed a correlation coefficient (r) = 0.886 with a significance value (p) = 0.000, indicating a highly significant positive relationship between hardiness and career adaptability among the students. This means that the higher the level of hardiness, the higher the level of career adaptability; conversely, the lower the hardiness, the lower the career adaptability among twelfth-grade vocational students in Banda Raya District, Banda Aceh

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are currently the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, including in Indonesia. The Indonesian government promotes balanced nutrition guidelines to encourage healthy lifestyles, with teachers expected to model these behaviors. This study is grounded in Self-Determination Theory (SDT), which posits that motivation, autonomy, competence, and relatedness influence health behaviors. It aims to explore teachers’ practices and perceived barriers in implementing balanced nutrition guidelines. Methods: A qualitative study using Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was conducted involving 11 teachers from a public school in Makassar City, Indonesia. The discussion was guided by a set of structured questions developed based on the 10 key messages of the Indonesian balanced nutrition guidelines. The FGD explored daily dietary practices, physical activity, and perceived barriers to the adoption of balanced nutrition recommendations. Results: The study involved 11 teachers from a public senior high school in Makassar City, Indonesia, most of whom were female and over 40 years old. The findings showed that teachers implemented the guidelines only partially. Practices included consuming vegetables only once a day, preparing simple side dishes such as fish or tempeh, consuming rice as the main and often sole staple food, inadequate water consumption, and performing only light or incidental physical activity. Several barriers were identified, including limited time for food preparation due to work demands, lack of breakfast habits, fear of frequent urination due to increased water intake, and limited time or motivation to engage in physical activity. Teachers also expressed that health behaviors were not yet a priority in their daily routines. These behaviors were interpreted through SDT constructs, highlighting how unmet psychological needs hinder full adoption of balance nutrition guidelines. Conclusion: The study highlights that while teachers are aware of balanced nutrition guidelines, their implementation remains limited due to various time, behavioral, and motivational barriers. Interventions based on SDT that promote autonomy, competence, and social support may enhance the adoption of balanced nutrition practices among teachers.

Abstract

Obesity is a risk factor for degenerative diseases, especially in developing countries. Obesity occurs due to changes in lifestyle behaviors such as physical activity and eating habits. One cause of this change is economic development in both urban and rural. The objective of this study is to know the cut-off point the nutritional state of obesity base on BMI indicator. The results showed that the prevalence of obese based on indicator BFP (Body Fat Percentage) (35%), BMI indicator from Ministry Of Health (22.7%) and BMI indicator from samples (40.8%). The results showed that the most dominant risk factor associated with the ‘obese’ according to category of Body Fat Percentage was a place to stay (OR = 2.51; 95% CI :1,24-5, 08); based on BMI categories from Ministry Of Health was a place to stay (OR = 2.11, CI 95% :1,16-3, 85), while based on BMI categories from sample was carbohydrate intake (OR = 3.32, CI 95% :1,38-7, 99). The need for continued research to validate the cut-off point of BMI according to sex as an act of screening the obese and the dissemination of information about PUGS (General Guidelines for Balanced Nutrition) in the community, especially the intake of carbohydrates.
