Abstract

The problem of good plant nutrition is still a question mark, the use of fertilizer and PGPR can increase plant growth and yield. This study aims to determine the effect and interaction of seed soaking using PGPR and chicken manure doses on the growth and yield of cucumbers. This study was carried out on land owned by residents in Tambun Village, Tolitoli Regency, Central Sulawesi Province, using a Randomized Block Design (RAK) factorial treatment, namely the first factor of seed soaking consisting of 3 levels, namely: W0 (control), W1 (4 hours), W2 (6 hours). The second factor, the dose of chicken manure consisting of 3 levels, namely: D0 (control), D1 (3 kg), D2 (4 kg). Each treatment was repeated 3 times so that there were 27 beds in total, each bed consisting of 4 sample plants, so that the total number of plants was 108 plants. The results showed that soaking cucumber seeds using PGPR could increase growth well with a soaking time of 6 hours including: plant height, number of leaves, number of segments. In the generative phase, soaking seeds using PGPR can increase growth by observing the number of flowers. The treatment of chicken manure doses has an effect on plant growth and yield in the 4 kg treatment including: plant height, number of leaves, number of internodes, and number of flowers. The best combination of treatment on the growth of cucumber seeds soaking using PGPR and chicken manure doses is in the W2D2 treatment, namely 6 hours of seed soaking and 4 kg of fertilizer dose. Soaking seeds with a combination of chicken manure can increase vegetative and generative plant growth.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the interaction between NPK Mutiara fertiliser dosage and branch pruning on the growth and yield of tomato plants (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.). The experiment was carried out from March to May 2024 at the experimental field of the Faculty of Agriculture, Madako University, Tolitoli, Tambun Village, Baolan District, Tolitoli Regency. A factorial Randomised Block Design (RBD) was used with two factors: NPK Mutiara fertiliser dosage (0 g/plant, 15 g/plant, and 25 g/plant) and branch pruning (no pruning, leaving three main branches, and leaving four main branches). Each treatment combination was replicated three times, resulting in 27 experimental units. The results revealed a significant interaction between NPK Mutiara fertiliser and branch pruning on plant height (51.92 cm) and fruit weight per sample (391.50 g). The single factor of branch pruning had a highly significant effect on fruit diameter at 67 days after planting (48.47 mm) and 74 days after planting (57.86 mm), with the best performance observed in treatments leaving 3–4 main branches. Overall, applying NPK Mutiara fertiliser at 25 g/plant combined with pruning to 3–4 main branches enhanced the growth and yield of tomato plants.

Abstract

Shallots (Allium ascalonicum L.) are one of the important horticultural commodities in Indonesia whose productivity is greatly influenced by cultivation techniques, especially mulch and organic fertilizer. This study was conducted to increase the growth and yield of shallots through various types of mulch and doses of chicken manure. The study was conducted in the Faculty of Agriculture practice field, Madako University, Tolitoli, Tolitoli Regency, Central Sulawesi, for three months, from February to April 2024. The design used was a two-factor Randomized Block Design (RBD), namely the type of mulch (M0: without mulch, M1: rice husk charcoal, M2: plastic mulch) and the dose of chicken manure (K0: without fertilizer, K1: 10 tons/ha, K2: 20 tons/ha), each with three replications. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at the 5% level. The results showed that the plastic mulch treatment (M2) significantly affected the fresh weight of tubers with leaves, the fresh weight of tubers without leaves, and the number of tubers. Meanwhile, a dose of 20 tons/ha of chicken manure (K2) significantly affected the fresh weight of tubers both with and without leaves. The interaction between the two factors was insignificant, so their effects were independent. Thus, increasing the dose of chicken manure (K2) still produced the highest yield regardless of the type of mulch used.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PKM) was carried out in Balaroa Village with the aim of developing local processed products in the form of banana chips and serundeng as an effort to improve the community’s economy based on local wisdom. Balaroa Village has abundant potential in banana and coconut production, but its utilization has so far been limited to household consumption and the sale of raw materials, which provides low economic value. Through this program, the community was trained in product processing, modern packaging techniques, and marketing strategies to create hygienic products with distinctive taste and attractive visual presentation. The implementation methods included village potential observation, socialization, hands-on training, and continuous mentoring to ensure that the acquired skills can be applied sustainably. The results showed an increase in the community’s ability to produce value-added products, where the banana chips and serundeng gained positive responses from local consumers and have the potential to become signature souvenirs of Balaroa Village. Thus, this program not only contributed to improving the local economy but also played a role in preserving traditional culinary practices based on local wisdom, making them more relevant and competitive in the modern era.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the world's largest coconut producers, with vast potential for both traditional and modern industrial uses. Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO), a coconut derivative with high economic value and health benefits, is known for its high lauric acid content, stability against thermal degradation and oxidation, clear color, distinctive coconut aroma, and relatively long shelf life. Furthermore, VCO offers various health benefits, including improving digestive function, lowering cholesterol levels, and increasing the body's resistance to disease. However, this potential has not been optimally utilized by rural communities, including those in Bambapula Village, North Dampal District, Tolitoli Regency, Central Sulawesi, where coconut raw materials are abundant but knowledge and skills in processing value-added products are limited. Therefore, this community service activity aims to improve community knowledge and skills in producing VCO in a simple, hygienic, and economically valuable way through training. The implementation method includes counseling on the potential and benefits of VCO, practical training in VCO production, and assistance in product packaging and storage. This three-day activity, held from August 13–15, 2025, took place at the Bambapula Village Office. The results showed an increase in participants' understanding and skills in the VCO production process, as well as growing community interest in developing coconut-based home businesses. This activity is expected to encourage increased added value for local commodities, support the economic independence of village communities, and contribute to the development of a local-based economy.
